We have Christianity.

But yeah, Shinto is pretty neat.

Christianity isn't really a religion, just a shallow philosophy.

t. Ahmed

arab

Christianity wasn't even created in the West. How big of a cuck are you
>be muslim
>tfw your whole religion is worshipping some arab guy from the desert
>be christian
>tfw your whole religion is worshipping some arab guy from the desert

Christianity is too universal and it's impossible to "not take it seriously", in the sense that not taking it seriously produces behavior basically identical to atheism. Non-serious Shinto still has a great reservoir of traditions and other good shit.

Islam is pretty shallow and nonsensical too. Monotheism tend to be so.

...

I don't get why Americans are so butthurt about Christianity being their national religion.

Just because an individual isn't Christian doesn't mean his country and culture aren't.

All European countries and their colonies are Christian countries. Deal with it.

t. hapa american.

stop pretending to be me

Depends on what you want to do with it. Anything can be as complex as you want it to be, and some people like their religion as dense and inscrutable as possible.

If by "religion" you are referring to metaphysics specifically, there's plenty of that in all Monotheisms, assuming you speak to the right people about the right things.

That's nonsense. You celebrate Christmas don't you? Celebrating the birth of Christ without deliberately honoring Christ himself is the epitome of "not taking it seriously."

youtube.com/watch?v=VABSoHYQr6k

Christianity as our national religion means basically nothing other than we celebrate winter by spending a whole lot of money on random bullshit and pretending some old guy flies around on a sleigh, we celebrate spring to barely any extent with a bunny and eggs, we celebrate the Irish national holiday for some reason, and we say "Jesus", "damn", and "hell" a lot. Compare that to all of the shit you can see in stuff like Yokai Watch stemming from Shinto.

Monotheism was a mistake, basically; we also used to have insane amounts of random stuff like that; think of stuff like the Iliad/Odyssey, the Metamorphoses, and the Aeneid, but then Monotheism came and we started actually caring about this crap, meaning we threw out all of the good stuff that didn't make sense.

Also, note that what "Christianity" is in our culture is just stuff from pagan cultures that we've assimilated.

this.
based japanese logic

this.
based arab.

t.christian

I don't hate Shinto and its kinda silly to hate it.

but they have traditions that mirror ancient greek faith of ancestor worship
alot of their religion is scarily similar to greeks of ancient times.

the only real difference is its buddist and they worship the spirits which is unqiue to them (japanese alone.)

That said they did treat christains like shit and still do.

t. pagan.

You're retarded. Read basically any halfway decent literature and you'll see it is absolutely dripping in Christian (and Greco-Roman) tradition. The story of the West is the story of Christendom. It just sounds like you are an exceptionally uncultured person.

This

They don't take shinto that seriously either.

They look after the temples and partake in shinto festivals. Same way we look after our churches and partake in christian festivals.

But mostly neither of us take the religion itself very seriously.

>Shinto seems pretty based.
Lemme guess, you know nothing about it but you're going to praise it because it's so unique and non-western? Just like "Buddhism"?

Japanese mix Buddhism with their native stuff though, just like Christians did .

EHHH???? that means you have to abandon the word "religion". Faith is OK. objectively we are very faithful meanwhile we're not aware of it.

Abe's wife is Catholic

>faithful
oh shit this meant "religious"

t. stone-worshiping grass eater

t. Northern brothers

A lot of Japanese and Korean PMs have been Christians because the elites there adopted Christianity when they wanted to adopt Western technology and success

100% kids never know of the name called Shinto. school students do as well. even parents never mention the word. nobody mentions Shinto itself

Shinto is like a cup of tea.
Nothing more, nothing less.

source?

Japanese Christians go to Shinto shrine to pray.

Google it

That's true, but moreso for Shinto

Shinto is not religion but faith.
it is a kind of nature worship.

that shit is exactly one of the top weeb things nobody in japan cares irl yet weebs care a lot about

religion is meme, mere material of anime

This actually.

Modern western Christianity isn't that far off Shinto casualness.

Church of England m893.

>Christ
>an Arab
He was a Mediterranean, genetically similar to the Greeks and Romans, who were basically Aryan.

>all Christianity is wacky cuck evangelism
>degeneracy is necessarily caused by a relaxed attitude towards religion

For example, New year's day based on Japanese traditional calendar is Japanese traditional day related to Shinto.

Genka calendar 554-696 (from Tang dynasty)
Giho calendar 697-763 (from Tang dynasty)
Taien calendar 764-862 (from Tang dynasty)
Xuanming calendar 862-1685 (from Tang dynasty)
Jokyo calendar 1685-1755 (made in Japan. from Islam via Mongolia)
Horyaku calendar 1755-1798 (made in Japan. by Western astronomy)
Kansei Calendar 1798-1844 (made in Japan. by Western astronomy)
Tenpo calendar 1844-1872 (made in Japan. by Western astronomy)
Gregorian calendar 1873-

That includes various culture.

>Christianity comes
>Gets cucked by local bear-men and has to adapt
Up to this day we watch a skinny dude representing spring and summer beat the shit out of a fat faggot representing winter, screaming "winter winter get the fuck out of my yard" while burning a make-shift woman on a pyre.

Christianity isn't a religion, it's a rotten dogma.

T. Abdul Ibn Assad

Shinto is a Jewish trick.

What matter is filling, not appearance. Jewish religious elements were taken somewhere else also.

Well, we new worlders sort of do. The beliefs of the natives are usually the centre of most art in Australia, lots of wall murals, park undercover areas, sculptures etc. Are based on Aboriginal art, folklore and culture much like Japans shinto is. This goes for New Zealand as well. I've noticed however that the US neglects Native American culture a lot though

>Implying that's not the intended function of Anglicanism

This happens everywhere, with all religions. Religions adapt to the local culture naturally. Religion becomes problematic when some autist comes up with back-to-the-roots religious revivalism, like Calvin, Ibn al-Wahhab, etc.

youtube.com/watch?v=Cwjb0OipMjs

fuck off weebshit

>neo-p*gans

Because christians woulndt have it like that

Be gone jew

Pagans were literally niggers and you can't deny it

Careful kiddo, you might cut yourself with that edge.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Shinto is hardly native, it's very similar to the Chinese folk religion and is heavily influenced by Chinese Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism

Nordics didn't loot their own village.

But aside from the few turboreligious christians left, at least in europe, christianity is just as casual and more of a cultural thing than an actual religion nowadays.

>be christian
>murder and wage war at people who refuse to convert
NOW THIS IS CIVILIZATION

The Christian religion absorbed a huge bunch of traditions from European paganism though.

Google saying akie is not christian...
She went to Christian high school.
But it doesn't mean she is christian.

>I've noticed however that the US neglects Native American culture a lot though

In the Southwest where there's a large Amerindian population, it's definitely a thing.

What seriously perplexes me, is that successful wealthy countries adopt religions from third world countries, examples of this include but are not limited to, Europe adopting Christianity from the middle east and Japan adopting Buddhism from India.

>murder and wage war at people
>people
church-burning, village looting cowards that ran at the first sight of an actual army are not people

japan and most of europe was shitholes compared to the ME and india when the adoptions happened honestly.
Probably helped christianity that they where already actually in the roman empire, meaning there was nothing stopping them from prozyletizing at first and then getting adopted by some emperors.

And the "adoption" of buddhism in japan took many centuries and was way more syncretic than christianity considering they actually outright celebrate the pagan traditions with its correct name.

>India and the Middle East 1400-2000 years ago=India and the Middle East today
Uh...

Buddhism in every country absorbed pagan traditions.

>But aside from the few turboreligious christians left, at least in europe, christianity is just as casual and more of a cultural thing than an actual religion nowadays
It was always that way though. the average European in 1500 wasn't necessarily more religious than today. more superstitious yes, but that's not the same thing as religious piety.

always been cringed when westerners say Shinto a "religion"

Shinto is full of kitsch and spooks. Literally hinduism-tier. Only a total weeaboo would think otherwise.

Japanese like Shintoism because it's lazy and doesn't require much from the practitioner other than performance of a ritual once in a while. Another thing to remember is that Christianity and Islam are very black-and-white and have an explicit set of do this and don't do that rules but Japanese culture doesn't have a real belief in moral absolutes, they see everything in shades of gray.

What does it mean "taking seriously", though?. People who take christianism "seriously" in the west are usually assholes, they are just a reaction to the ever growing secularization of the society. Taking christianism "seriously" shouldn't mean becoming a faith nazi.

he's saying we should have a national religion and not take it seriously, but still keep it as tradition.

You pray to spirits and deities, have a creation myth, sacrifiece stuff.
If that isnt a religion I dont know what is.

>Catholics
You have to do good things to gain salvation. The church has authority in theological issues, the pope being the head of the church. Big emphasis on traditions. Clergy can't get married.

>Orthodox

Very similar to Catholics but without a single head of the church. Icons. Clergy can get married.

>Protestants (European Lutherans)

Salvation is obtained exclusively by having faith in God, it doesn't matter if you do good works or not. The Bible is the only authority, yet they follow many traditions from the old church, such as having Sunday as a sacred day and considering God to be trine.

>Protestants (American Evangelicals, Baptists, etc)

Creationists, Israelophile Republicans. Jesus appears on bagels. Ku klux klan. McChurches and "black only churches" among other degeneracies.

>Jehovah's witnesses

American apocalyptic cult who believe Jesus was an angel and that blood transfusions are sinful.

>Mormons

American hoax with their own fake scriptures about how Jesus lived in America. You're required to wear magic underwear and black people cannot get into heaven.

This can only cime from an american if you think about the metric fucktons of old rites and weird saintplaces/atrributes we have here (albeit noone gives a shit about the saints anymore)
As a truly american religion, only mormonism comes to mind.

this is true. in most of Europe people don't actively practice Christianity, but it's seen as cultural symbol and a shield against Islam.

How long can you keep up with taking something not seriously though without ditching it outrightly and become receptive towards the shit others believe in but take quiet serious?

yet they are so random and tremendously disorganized and local as a religion, so rather be traditional superstition

or you can mean these that i would call them a religion
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sekten-Shintō

South Korea has some really fucked up fundie Christians, as they have this, how do I explain it, fusion of Christianity and Confucian moralism.

Way better than worshiping a being who claims to be almighty but can't protect his followers.
liveleak.com/view?i=800_1442221975

because see It's always been that way. actual really religious people are rare.

Yeah...pick up the Bible. Jesus says "Many will come in my name, but few will actually follow me."

Abbos seem really gross to be honest, while Maori are great.

>re·li·gion - noun - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

Shinto is absolutely a relgion under the conventional definition. Maybe Japanese people have multiple words for this phenomena and the translation of the word 'religion' you most often see is one implying a more organized sort of faith. In the west, however, any sort of belief about the supernatural can be classified as 'religion'.

T. Thinks they are smart
All religions are dogmas you aspies
Except maybe taoism

>Except maybe taoism
Please tell me, what do you know about Daoism?

Taoism was basically a hobby religion for the upper classes in China since it required the performance of rituals that used expense, rare substances.

Mh I see.
A disorganised Mess founded on traditions is the same with all polytheist regions though. Generally like with Hinduism, Muism or Siberian stuff it gets then tied to the local people (usually as seen by westeners) and all the different more organized thoughts that come from them and build on this context then also get called as such.

As far as I understood it you overtook the western understanding of thinking like this during meji restauration, as in everything needs to be neatly categorized and have a dogma or ethnic base to be religion.
So if you see Shinto even in its most archaic form as "Spiritworship designated to the people on Japan" its very much a religion in the way outsiders see it.

thank you swedes for removing our honest belief in holy nature and spirit animals

WE

...

No not at all.
The trinity stuff alone manages to fill books.

Some other westerners do, but we don't because we're Americans. Asking why we don't have a national religion is as retarded as asking why we can have guns.

>we don't take seriously
More like we're not even conscious, though.
It's actually become part of our tradition, only it doesn't affect our way of thinking.

>Catholicism
>some vexing theological problem comes up
>the Vatican summons a council of cardinals and bishops to draft a 500 page document on it, which must then meet the Pope's approval

>Orthodoxy
>some vexing theological problem comes up
>500 clergy hold a council, fast for several days, and finally declare the problem unresolvable

>Protestantism
>some vexing theological problem comes up
>argue with each other and split into 25 new denominations

so just like the christian/pagan traditions in most of europe
so many people i know have to search why we actually do some holidays/celebrations
