Why was Casino Royale so much better than Skyfall and Spectre?

Why was Casino Royale so much better than Skyfall and Spectre?

The poker and Mads

That poker game was so dumb literally nothing about poker skills. Just writers giving a good hand when they want him to win. So disappointed.

You mean why were CS and QoS SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER?

I agree, both those films WERE fucking great and better than the ones that came after.

The choreography in this film was probably the best I've ever seen in a big budget Hollywood movie. The action was so real and clear to see, no shaky cam bullshit

It was me, James. The author of all your pain. I killed Vesper Lynd.

it would be hard to write a poker match with the main character winning and not making it look contrived. how else do they do it?

Best Girl and Best Villain

CR > Spectre > Skyfall >>> QOS

based martin campbell

Rounders was good poker in the final match

Spectre is worse than Solace.

Quantum of Shit was the worst bond movie ever

Oh hey It's that one guy who liked Quantum Of Writers Strike

can we agree they equally terrible?

Watched it recently and it's not that bad, when compared to Spectre which I watched in the timeframe Spectre while good falls short of it.

Olga >>> Lea, man.

Rounders was ABOUT poker, in CR it's just a plot device.

No.

Pretty much anything is better then QoS.

>Why was Casino Royale so much better than Skyfall and Spectre?

Casino Royale is VERY bare bones thriller with surprisingly amazing execution by just about EVERYONE in the production crew.

Skyfall was way too complex and rushed Javier's character way too 'granted' in the film without proper side-by-side storytelling, it had a ridiculous old time Bond plot that didn't fucking go well with what Quantum of Solace (Oh, the ambition of this film!) and Casino Royale did - very basic & grounded terrorist (and far thinking) narratives running side by side with Bond's story (still think QoS had the most potential with this side of the plot than any other terrorist/world control org. Bond film has had)

On top of that the chemistry of La Chivre (Mads), Bond/Craig and Eva/Vesper was fucking out of this world like damn sparkles everywhere.

It was also a COMPLETELY (outside the failed Dalton flicks) different take on Bond influenced very clearly by post-9/11 cynicism and Bourne films. We see him getting fucking whacked, fail and fuck up very properly (this is where Skyfall goes fucking idiotic, Bond fails the mission to protect M and at the end Ralph Finnes fucking congragulates him for it???)

The great parkour action scene is gorgeous, the black and white first kill story/scenes are amazing setup for the film.

"Bond as a grim reaper, it turns out to mean more for the contemplation of life and identity. "

top fucking film lads.

>'origin' story
>Eva Green
>MIkkelsen
>goat opening credits
>non classic script
>great action pieces
>dat poker scene
>Eva Green

Boy, I wonder.

She's the reason why I watch Penny Dreadful.

Also REALLY FUCK Spectre.
Well FUCK everything past 100 minutes of Spectre.

Production crew, everyone, fucking anyone involved in what we see in screen starting from director, cinematographer, writers, actors seems to stop giving a single solitary FUCK about quality of what they produce and the end result is one of the worst pieces of shits I have seen.

and I was so ready to fucking go with the film for the first 100 minutes because it is, at that time, very operatic majestic melodramatic action film that's quite fucking well done.

But really fuck Spectre worse than Skyfall and QoS overall

A museum exhibit purports to celebrate humanity, but leaves us with the image of corpses playing poker--and while Campbell certainly utilizes it for the concept of Bond as a grim reaper, it turns out to mean more for the contemplation of life and identity. A story of orphans and accountants, forced to utilize their most disposable talents, but what else do they have? The driving point of Casino Royale's Bond is not that he is a killing machine, but that he is a void, and killing was just the most convenient filler. (Even after the ineffective attack on his manhood, we can only talk about what is yet to be taken from him: he is a smile and a little finger, stripped of armor.) Vesper is broken in some similar way, one that doesn't entirely reveal itself, even when we understand her passions and motives. It's all courtesy masking rage, and a loneliness tinged with the tiniest suggestion of self-harm--the attempt to wash blood away with your own. You can even find that in Le Chiffre--"The Cipher"--whose bleeding eye and asthma inhaler (and stuttering cowardice) hint at similar tales. They all form an indistinguishable mechanism of pain, sat around the poker table. It's why V-E-S-P-E-R is such a tender moment, the one that defines its tragedy: the recognition of her agency and individuality; the recognition that you are not a corpse

I just hope they get Campbell again for the next one.

Execute all Brits.

>hey what if we gave bond some sort of actual pathos

pretty much

I just hope they get Campbell in his 'enter god mode' state and not on his regular fucking shitty mode.

CR is fucking leaps ahead of Campbell's filmography it looks liek a goddamn fluke nomsayin?

Royale >>> QS > sky fall > spectre

I did not like skyfall or spectre. I think there wasn't enough emotion to justify le crazy backstory, history, etc. With CR and QS, we follow a single story line from a international terrorist/money man in le chiffre to Dominic Greene, which makes sense. It's nice and simple. With the next two there's all sorts of talking about the past without ever actually giving it any real importance. In other words, in those movies, I'm being TOLD why what's happening is happening instead of being SHOWN why it's happening.

Not to mention, the quirky homo-erotic villain gets old really fast.

You got the order mostly correct but I'd fine tune it.

Royale > Quantum of Solace > first 100 minutes of Spectre = Skyfall > rest of Spectre (abomination)

Spectre and Skyfall were ye old Bond films, CR and QoS modernized Bond (that they did not continue for some odd fuckign reason, probably because of production issues around QoS resulting to bad sales)

Do yurokebabs really shower while crying and wearing their clothes???

I agree with you too. The only true order

Skyfall was pretty fun.

Spectre I felt like I'm watching parody of James Bond with premise "What if James Bond was really fucking lame"

QUALITY POST.
VERY ORIGINAL MEME/BAIT.

I know I do

No its not u fucking idiot.

Spectre had all the classic like bond locations whilst QOS was just a shoot em up

>Americans literally wear shoes in the house

Why does everyone hate QoS? I recognize that CR is the best but I didn't think QoS was that bad. The opening car chase was sweet, it had some hot chicks, and I thought the scene with the old bomber plane was legit.

>QOS had no classic Bond locations

Liar or idiot or both?

Fuck off, no way.
...Really?

Quantum ain't THAT bad.

>Opening car chase
>Sweet
Yeah IF IT HAD NOT BEEN CUT FUCKING MILLION TIMES.

God I fucking hated the amount of cuts in that scene.

Literally in my bed wearing my hiking boots right now

>Yuropeons literally let muslims live in their house
But hey at least they're not wearing shoes, right? kek

I will agree that it had a lot of cuts but I thought it was still pretty good. It was real, the location was nice, and the music and action made it feel real and visceral.

That scene has so much fucking potential, yes I agree but damn the director/editor to hell for the amount of cuts in that scene.

Quantum is my second favorite Craig, modern Bond should've been continued because it had some sick potential for growth and Quantum of Solace only fails at writing issues and cutting few corners (done during writers' strike..)

These old-modern-Bonds like Spectre and Skyfall - done already and fucking tiresome lip service..

Skyfall and Spectre both relied on being anniversary films so every piece of fan service was shoe-horned in.

Then they didn't learn their lesson from QoS that a Bond film as a direct sequel is shit.

I'm australian you fat cunt

Quantum of Solace's quality had jack shit to do with being a sequal, that film was done during writers' strike and ran into other production issues where then Craig and director IIRC tried to do some heavy patchwork to fix it to some state.

>Why was Casino Royale so much better than Skyfall and Spectre?

It was based on a novel by Ian Fleming. That said, I prefer Skyfall.

>I prefer Skyfall.
Absolute fucking mad man

>Quantum of Shit was the worst bond movie ever

No it wasn't. It's better than all of the Roger Moore movies, two of the Brosnan movies and one of the Connery ones. I'd also rather watch it than either Dalton movie.

>I get triggered on behalf of yurocucks
Fucking kek.

This

I had a dream two nights ago where Bond accidentally shot Vesper after she was taken hostage by someone and she died in his arms.

Felt fucking bad.

It's more inventive narratively (for a Bond film), and I'm a sucker for the cinematography. The action is cooler to me too.

>It's more inventive narratively (for a Bond film),
Javier as a Bond's future or what he could've been, that's been done in Goldeneye and probably in some other older Bond already.

What ruins me Skyfall is the ending, M getting fucking whacked and Bond getting a congratz from Ralph Finnes' character is just too fucking tonally off from the whole thing..

Exactly. I think it gets too much hate. Casino Royale was great but I would say QoS is probably my second favorite of Craig bonds. After going back and watching Skyfall and Spectre again I wasn't as impressed. Skyfall had too much personal stuff going on with bond. I didn't care for the whole last act with M dying. Spectre looked really promising but fell flat for me. There were far too many nostalgia call backs to the originals, the torture scene and "blow up the baddy base" section went way too fast, and Waltz was not that great as a villain. I expected much more from him as Blofeld.

Do you yurokebabs really do this? Sit in the shower in their clothes and cry?

>Javier as a Bond's future or what he could've been, that's been done in Goldeneye and probably in some other older Bond already.

Yeah of course, it's full of homages and callbacks, but it's also structured differently and remixes the formulaic elements in an interesting way (M as the Bond girl, villain coming for Bond at the end, etc.)

Getting M whacked was new for sure, but it is ultimately ruined for me by what I've stated already. Such tonally off ending it's insane.

Agreed on everything about Spectre, but I feel like Skyfall very much lacked that personal connection that was in QoS and CR. It was too superficial, had to take too fucking much for granted.

Should've like started with Bardem's story and half way mix with Bond or something, just didn't care about his issues with M.

It goes beyond M getting whacked - she's the female lead and the prime mover in Bond's objective.

I don't see a tonal difference at all. What are the tones and where's the divide for you?

You don't see it weird when it ends in a positive feeling, note, after M dies and Bond is at Ralph's office and later watching over the city as a 'guardian' or some such?

It should've ended to a grim funeral or something to me. It just takes away the punch.

>Le Chiffre does a shitty min-raise when he doesn't have the nuts
>even though he knows that the black guy has a legit hand and doesn't know anything about Bond's hand or the asian guy's hand
>says that he calls Bond's "bluff" even though Bond literally can not bluff, all-in that has been checked by at least one other player on the table always goes to showdown so Bond has a legit hand guaranteed
>Le Chiffre also moves all-in without the nuts with 2 legit hands and 1 unconfirmed hand
>any pro poker player would have instantly folded after Bond went all-in because the only way you can ever make a play like that is if you have the-nuts, otherwise you are voluntarily donating chips to the rest of the table and lose ground against the chip leader

what the fuck was Le Chiffre thinking? The moment Bond went all-in there were 2 possibilities

A: Bond has the nuts (which was the case)
B: Bond is retarded and "bluffs" by donating chips to the black or the asian guy because at least one of them has a guaranteed hand (unless asian guy and black guy are also retards that bluff for no reason)

The only way Le Chiffre's play would have made sense is if he not only thought that Bond was bluffing but also the asian dude and the black guy which is pretty fucking unlikely.

>You don't see it weird when it ends in a positive feeling, note, after M dies and Bond is at Ralph's office and later watching over the city as a 'guardian' or some such?

Not at all. Life goes on, and they were rebuilding MI6 from the ashes. It's not like they went to a carnival.

Eh.

Should've shown in that case 'time going on' in a far better way.

how does he know that the black guy has a legit hand? What?

I think they did it exceedingly well.

There was good tension throughout the movie. The love story was somewhat believable, especially since it somehow infected his relationships towards women after.
Craig was awesome.
Mads was awesome.
Eva was awesome.
It was well directed overall and well written.
Everything that Quantum of Solace and Spectre were not.
Skyfall was pretty good, but the writing was rather poor in comparison to Casino Royale.

after someone goes all-in and you call their all-in there is a guaranteed showdown. It's Poker 101, every player that calls after someone went all-in has a legit hand or suspects that everyone else is bluffing. You can't steal the pot with a bluff after an all-in, you can only hope that your hand is better than all the other people that called the all-in. That's the reason why Bond could not possibly bluff, 1 hand was already confirmed to compete for the pot, after Chifre's min-raise it was 2 legit hands. The only way Bond would ever go all-in after 2 confirmed hands is if he has the nuts.

Skyfall is better than Casino just because Casino pulled the god awful "everyone has a full house" trope

>Skyfall was pretty good, but the writing was rather poor in comparison to Casino Royale.
see
It's almost cheating.

Yes, even though Quantum didn't even try to be good...it was just...a mistake in a Bond saga.

>a mistake in a Bond saga

Are you motherfuckers high? There are 24 Bond moviese, there are not 23 better than Quantum of Solace. It wasn't as good as Casino Royale, but not many entires into the series are. Fuck.

>So much better than Skyfall
Not that much better

1. Skyfall is one of the best Bond films
2. Casino Royale cusbased Mads and good cast overall sometimes poorly written
3. Spectre is a waste of C. Waltz so poorly written also full of meme characters.
4. Quantum is JUST a piece of shit. Probably the worst Bond film of all time. Olga Kurylenko is hot though.

Calm down, Jonathan.

No, even the worse Dalton's or Moore's were slightly enjoyable, as kitschy as they can be.

Quantum made me feel like i was watching a french watered down version of a Bond movie without a proper script. It was unbearable to watch.

>even the worse Dalton's or Moore's were slightly enjoyable, as kitschy as they can be

I would rather watch QoS on a 24 hour loop than watch a Moore Bond movie once. They're all absolute shit.

Poker as a framing device was entertaining. Other films lacked similar framing devices.

That's not what a framing device is, retard.

Oh ok...you're that kinda guy.

this

100%. Moore Bond is a disgrace and I'm sick of nostagiafags defending that trash.

>craig
>bond

You are a nigger.

CR>Skyfall>Spectre>>>James Bond fan script by an autistic 10 year old>>>>>>>>>QoS

Because Spectre was a train wreck. Pretty much the entire movie I was thinking how stupid it was.

Skyfall felt like they ripped off TDK but add mommy issues Joker.

Character based story intead of the shameless product-placement-driven ones if the sequels.

Casino Royale > Quantum of Solace > Skyfall > Spectre

Which Bond girl was the hottest in the Craig films?

Eva Green

In CR bond is a human

...

Eva and the redhead

because they keey changing the actor of james bond

>not Olga or Lea

Eva by far. Without question.

I don't remember the Skyfall girls and Spectre had 120- seconds of Belluchi, then some 20 year old french girl who is an overnight love interest

Quantum was alright I guess but not Eva level

Casino Royale
>gritty grounded bond
>amazing on screen chemistry between the leads
>great antagonist
>good story and plotlines
>Eva Green

QoS
>very forgettable movie. Can barely remember anything about it except the bad guy wants to sell water or something

Skyfall
>shit storyline
>annoying Q. Really stupid too. Not scanning a suspicious computer.
>Gay villain. Not threatening at all.
>riddled with too many plotholes
>home alone third act

Two fuckin words mate:
Martin Campbell
