The main theme of Snyder's "Batman v Superman" on spiritual dematerialism is not eschatological, but a phenomenological ontology. Thus he implies that we have to choose between predialectic construction and deconstructivist neodialectic theory, essentially Heideggerian as seen in the concept of Dasein. The subject is interpolated then into a cinematic dematerialism that includes spirituality as a whole. But if the Kierkegaardian worldview holds, we have to choose between the cultural paradigm of expression and atomism. In Snyder's own "Man of Steel" he has a character say that "the world's too big”. Inherent in this is how the function of Lebenswelt (cinematically translated by Snyder as "world of life") operates in all his films, chiefly in "Sucker Punch" and "300". We see a phenomenological approach to the world showing a cinematic logic that presupposes a structural constraint in rootedness, another intentionality central to his filmography and philosophy. Because "metaphysical comfort" is not an object of temporality per se, but rather an aspect of automatic condition, as suggested by Cavell. Hermeneutic interpretations are also apparent in his post-"Watchmen" movies; in fact the interchangeable subjectivities are but another representation of Husserl's and Wittgenstein's "form of life". As his academic hero Heidegger succintly noted, "freedom is the ‘abyss’ of Dasein, its groundless or absent ground". This is essentially the thesis operating in Snyder's films.

I think that it's time the fans start talking about what the themes mean in the grander scheme of things. I mean, even the themes of obsession and heroism so prevalent in BvS are presented as extensions of the deepest and. in my opinion, the most important theme:

Perception vs. Reality

Taking for granted that BvS is the presentation of the answer to Perry White's question - "Do you know how people would react if they knew there was someone like this out there?" - it's plain to see that when mankind is given a tangible, god-like figure walking among us, they'll seek to turn him into a god. After all, for the past two years, Clark has been more than just an idea in the back of people's minds. He's on their televisions, their internet, in some instances the skies above them. Is it possible that the collective unconscious beliefs of mankind are manifesting as a form of magic?

Truly the finest kino

Magic begins in perception, and while that doesn't mean anything to Clark, him being just a man and all, the same doesn't hold true for what's coming.

If it was hard to fight off deification before, how much worse will it become when he comes back as a literally risen savior?

anyone else notice any crossover between bvs and suicide squad thematically? visually?
>bad people can do good
>something going on about how they see themselves/how they're seen by society
>the government afraid of superman, in an existential way or because of the possible threat to their power?

I'm starting to think that the single biggest thing introduced in Suicide Squad is going to be actual magic being a reality in the DCEU,

King Arthur and Excalibur you pleb.

This meme need to stop.

Actually, it's more in line with Arthurian legend. I've always thought the whole Longinus angle was inaccurate. Lois is a stand-in for the Lady of the Lake.

...

It's not all meme. There's a heavy element of Poe's law here, but you can still distinguish between the real discussion and the ironic ones from the amount of hyperbole involved.

Me, for instance, I don't think BvS was anything more than better than average for a cape film, but I'm intrigued by the world-building.

Pure unadulturated kino

i'm just hoping for at least one full out balls to the wall epic that's pulled off with finesse

When's the director's cut gonna be out on torrents? I want to see Snyder's original vision for the film. Hopefully WB doesn't neuter Justice League and he gets to complete his trilogy.

MoS is like a 7 max
BvS is like 5

mos 8/10
bvs 6/10

also, stop

MoS: 9/10
BvS: 10/10
Watchmen: 10/10
300: 8/10

Snyder is the one true capeshit kinographer.

I would really like if you could explore onto the scene where bruce talks about his ancestors

should i study all the those analysis before watching the Film, or after?

should i go directly for the director's cut? 4K HDR torrent when?

...

just wait until the director's cut and watch it fresh and see what you gather from it
as far as the 'deeper' meanings the movie plays with, it doesn't rely on you understanding the references or meanings to follow along with the bare plot and characters it's there for 'those who want to look deeper' or something

I'd just wait for the director's cut at this point. Also, be selective in what you choose to believe about some of the connections being made. There are a lot of them that are outright the work of memesters.

If you're familiar with comics lore and have even just a smattering of familiarity with works like Moby Dick, Arthurian legend, and how those themes apply to the principals, you'll pick up a lot of what's there.

From my perspective, it's also important to keep in mind that these films are telling Supernan's story from the angle of a 'First Contact" scenario. "Batman v Superman" is a lot less about Superman than it is about the wirkd's reaction to him.

>wirkd's

DUDE SYMBOLISM LMAO

Amazing

...

In all honesty, the symbolism didn't stop either MoS or BvS from being mediocre movies at best.

I sent this guy all our autistic analysis, we'll be seeing a BvS thesis video soon.

must confess, as one of inner circle of pasta patrons, i've actually talked to the dude in the week after the movie came out
also got some dude in the comments mad at me, his 'interpretation' of certain things stretched shit far more than anything here

Honestly since most people seem to agree that neither movies were all that good, I should be posting that reaction image about you.

>most people have taste
>most people have no taste

Choose.

>most people agree with me, therefore I am right

Said no intelligent person ever.

the 'agreement' is based on the supposed destruction porn and it not being donnerman

furthermore, there is no consensus, people were split on it from the beginning and even those negative reactions were based on specific momentary things that happen in the movie and not the movie itself

i absolutely don't mean to disparage anyone's thoughts but a lot of what people say is complete bullshit

and i thought it was okay when it saw it back then, for vastly different reasons than what people parade on the internet

Doomsday's birth scene seems to be a homage to these:

Also, friendly reminder that if there's an Irreversible-inspired scene in the Ultimate Cut
by consequence the Banepost and the whale hole were intentional.

shut the fuck up. that's not the guy(s). these generals have enough of an uphill battle as it is for people to start including made up troll posts in how they inform themselves

>yet another pic and copypasta dump to make it seem as if discussion is happening
Has there even been such a display of denial?

>Also, friendly reminder that if there's an Irreversible-inspired scene in the Ultimate Cut

This is based on an interview with Zack where he said that for a dark movie Bats could be raped.
Anyone who's a fan of BvS is aware of this and anyone who's wants to troll uses this to make fun of Zack. So yea, the guy you responded to was trolling and he put a lot of time and effort in it so he was probably one of the guys that was posing as Zack.

Also, see how he didn't deny it.

I'm aware that Poe's Law is strong in BvS threads but you got to level up dude.

Poor guy to see his career die the moment it started taking off.

As someone who has actually read l'Morte d'Arthur I can confirm that it has literally nothing to do with BvS.

Just the meme and delusion staying strong.

No one truly believes that.
Liking BvS became a meme the moment everyone took a collective shit on it.

OP is the same guy dumping pics and copypastas trying, and of course, failing, to explain why these cheap flicks aren't trash.

i made the irreversible post in that thread. the guy who linked it in this one either took it seriously or thought it was tasty bait
generally there's self policing but it's now obvious that it's easy to mix misinformation. it's easy to make even more stuff like that and in a very superficial way make it seem indistinguishable from everything else

I've read l'Morte d'Arthur too and you could draw certain comparisons. I wouldn't claim they were intentional but they are definitely there.

was meant for

it was pretty badly handed. Especially MoS was laughable so he toned it down with BvS

There's actually more symbolism in BvS than in MoS. If by toning down you mean more subtle, I agree.
But what most people don't seem to understand is that Snyder uses this imagery mostly as an aesthetic choice.

In his mind: Thematic imagery > generic imagery.

the hilarious thing about the complaints about symbolism in MoS is that most of it went unnoticed picked out two instances of visual cues

l'Morte d'Arthur? No.

The 80s film "Excalibur" that draws loosely from Arthurian legend and has a subtext concerning the nature of heroism and how one's motivations apply to it? Yes.

so let's take into context what Snyder's task are. He is given a task to create a movie that:

1) create an origin movie for Justice League
a) this will include scenes and character development for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman
b) have the 3 team up to serve as a basis for Justice League - obviously this has to be a super villain since how can stand against 3 superheroes?
c) have that super villain be engineered by human to serve its origin and for connecting with the human personas of Superman and Batman

2. have a continuity to Superman's actions after the Man of Steel 0 this includes the political aspects of having an uncontrollable god exist in the presence of humans and its spiritual implications as well

3. Introduce Batman and relate him to Superman

4. Be distincly different from Marvel movies. tackle the serious side of having heroes within among us and let the people think

Given this ginormous task, its amazing how Snyder was able to make it all work in his film. To cover all this points would take about 4 - 4 1/2 hours and I feel that if given the freedom Snyder would have done it so. A task of this magnitude would have failed Kubrick but Snyder has done it, although we admit this is not his best work but I would have loved to see what he could have done in a 4 hour epic Director's cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ™

not everything is about jesus imagery jfc.

To add to this, build a world where magic makes some sense. I honestly believe that all the religious imagery ties into that. It's kind of like what Frank Herbert explored in the "Dune" series and "The Godmakers."

actually the jesus imagery if you think about it is from the perspective of the humans, i.e at the church scene at MoS (perspective of the priest) and during the flood (perspective of those stranded). its what humans will literally picture a superhuman alien that is nigh invincible to be. hell, humans have pictured other humans as their saviour or as jesus with much less feats than that

Precisely. And it's that investment of belief that I think is about to come into play.

Kneel to your god-king.

After reading all this analysis, I finally understand.
BvS is the Anvil Hoarder of our times.

I only started frequenting this board over the past few years, so I missed out on the Anvil Hoarder bit. Would you care to share a brief synopsis?

It's a meme about an incomprehensible art movie from the 1930's that doesn't actually exist. People made up deep interpretations about it for shits and giggles.
There were threads about it just a few months back where we came up with new subplots for it.

Ah, gotcha. I've used a "Mines of Moria" analogy when referring to the analysis of MoS and BvS, where there's some unanticipated depth and meaning, but by digging too deep, some people unleashed the trolls.

I'm the author of some of the pasta, but mine tends to be of the sort that eschews hyperbolic praise, though I do genuinely love these films.

>Man of steel 10/10
>Batman v Superman 9/10
DAMAGE
CONTROL

Quints confirm. The meme needs to die.

I'm the same way, I love these movies, but I go ham on the symbolism just to anger the haters and to troll the crazies.

But can't you see the harm you're doing? People will start taking you seriously, then they'll start pretending to "get it" to fit in. It's awful.
