Cool Batman ripoff

This was cancelled after Watchmen didn't make enough money.

Sony was convinced that high-concept cerebral sci-fi with expansive sets/special-effects and an emphasis on world-building weren't profitable.

I hate synder so much

I would pay good money to see a decent film adaptation of this.

Rapture really would be pretty on the big screen.

A film adaptation of Bioshock would ruin its principal theme. Bioshock needs to be an interactive experience.

two sentences, thread over

nah. It could be adapted to movie media with no problem and still be true to the concept

It really can't.

So much of the impact of the "would you kindly" reveal came from you controlling the protagonist throughout the game.

Bioshock's interactiveness implicates you in the story. You feel like you're doing what you want, then it hits you with the what you already knew the whole time--you're following down a set path designed by someone else and there's no way to deviate from it.

There is literally no way to translate this part of Bioshock into a non-interactive medium.

That could be subverted well enough by having Jack follow Atlas mindlessly without questioning him. Don't make Jack completely silent like the game, but at the same time have him serve as a vessel for the audience. The reveal would still be plenty shocking

If it was done that way it would just be a rehash of The Manchurian Candidate. The way Bioshock contributed to that idea was by involving the player. It's not just a character you're observing getting a hit with da twist that they weren't in control. You, as in you playing the game, felt like you were in control, because you were the cog in the machine driving the action forward. But the path was chosen for you, and not only is that cool in the story but it's also interesting on the metanarrative level. Single player video games are designed experiences, and you can't deviate from the constraints of the game. We all choose to ignore this when we play video games, because that's what suspension of disbelief is.

Bioshock was more than just a neat twist because of what it did in that department. As a movie, it would lose so much of what made it interesting in the first place that it really just isn't worth doing save for the visuals of a sick underwater city/twisted plasmid splicers/big daddies.

>Snyder's style is perfect for bioshock, right down to waxing Ayn rands philosophy and religious imagery
>His failures killed it second hand
Bravo Snyder.

Reminder that Libertarianism is the only logical path for humanity

If it were logical, it would have dominated all other ideologies by now and become the order of the world.

Power is everything. People want to be lead. Libertarianism is a fantasy of the weak who desperately grasp at self-ownership in a world totally incompatible with it.

Jack's story doesn't have to be told, there's plenty to work with in the world just going off diaries and side characters, which would be far easier to work with than a mute with an ugly sweater.

logic doesn't mean it will catch on. often the most illogical things (religion, racism, etc) will rise to the top because of base human instincts.

Well *that* I totally agree with.

A Bioshock movie could work if it was a story about Andrew Ryan and Rapture. Lots of stories to tell in that world no doubt.

But the story of Bioshock 1 can't be done justice without the interactive element. That's all I meant.

Libertarianism is staked on the empirically baseless assumption that individual people are worth something in themselves.

But the fact is, the way we organize ourselves, spurred on by our deepst, most human nature, is not individualistic.

We crave leaders. We crave to let go of power to be comfortable. We resent that, that's another part of being human, but we still can't resist the sweet sensation of worship.

>Leave the vidyakino to me Booker!

If that game's story wasn't a fucking mess, I'd kill for a movie of that.

Reminder that neo-liberalism is a disease

same, the setting was awesome.

why is there such a vast quantity of rule 34 based on Elizabeth?

Because she's hot + incest?

It was beautiful, vibrant as hell. Ken Levine got so far up his own ass though. Just a lame story with DUDE LIGHTHOUSES LMAO.

She's easy to cast.

Its RoonRoon

>not Felicity Jones

Get the fuck out.

Because she's an attractive blue-eyed white European female. The very thing the world is trying to make extinct, and rarity increases value and desirability.

The 'would you kindly' twist was retarded anyways. The whole appeal of Bioshock was that the bad guys weren't just evil, just passionate libertarians who held their beliefs fast even in the most extreme of circumstances, and ended up so far removed from real life consequences they became monstrous as a result.

Blue Eyes + Pale Skin = Goddess

Cast her

and don't name me a pornstar or anything, give me an actual actress that can act.

Stoya.

My favourite game - but a movie adaptation would probably be crap.

Sarah Gadon

Cast Andrew Ryan.

I'd say that dude from Mad Men who played Howard Stark in Civil War.

...

You mean Dominic Cooper?

>the most illogical things (religion, racism, etc)

I was wondering when Tumblr would show up.

Why do you assume it would be the same story? I would love to see early rapture and even pre rapture Ryan planning everything and making it happen. The civil war is perfect for a movie. Have a straight plasmid and gat battle like crazy

Idris Elba

There is a prequel book that they could work with. It was pretty good.

Then how does the free market work?

Well, that explains Bioshock Infinishite.

but that would involve some level of creativity to expand those into feature length stories and further expanding the games world building via a new medium. No, it would much easier for the studio to have someone copy and paste the story already laid out, then just throw in some quips for the protagonist to toss out so general audiences feel compelled to root for him cause they made them giggle. Then get M Night Shyamalan to direct because its got a big twist and who better than Twisty McGoober himself.

ideal damsel in distress

I think some parts of bioshock 1 and 2 were too extreme for mainstream audience. Cutting them would make the story boring.

Infinite is a film adaption of the Bioshock series.

How much say should Ken Levine have if there's a film adaptation?

I give this man props, he put his ideal waifu into a AAA game so there would massive loads of Rule 34 done of her.

>If it was done that way it would just be a rehash of The Manchurian Candidate.
>In an underwater city

I'd pay to see that.

>Randian caricatures
>Libertarian
I don't even disagree with the rest of your post, but the characters in Bioshock are anarchists to the extreme, despite what Ken intended and which references he put in.
Also,
>Rand
>Libertarian
To be in high school again

t.I have no idea why I'm alive retard

done

is it really an interaction if you have 0 choices?

I'm getting tired of this meme.

do what I did, filter it, or just straight up ignore it.

I thought memes were supposed to be funny.

So much this, the best part of Bioshock was the Multiplayer lobby in Bioshock 2. Sitting in your room surrounded by a view of the vibrant (but not yet rundown) city.

That game was pretty underrated.

The story was decent.

The real world player feeling abused by this is a major plot point.

Rapture works as a setting but the plot of the game itself doesn't work as a film.

how about 2?

fuckn yes

Lies, you literally have to follow point A to point B with voices telling you objectives. Beeg tweest didn't amount to much after slugging though the archaic shooting and game simplicity. I was more mad IRL over the game being whatever than the silly we still fukken slaves mang end. I mean the 'abuse' scene is like literally the only cutscene in the game, maybe you should play Final Fantasy if you want to feel raped?

kotaku.com/stop-making-porn-with-my-characters-bioshock-creator-p-1442945516

Libertarianism is just the capitalist version of communism, pure bullshit and not possible at all.

Racism isn't illogical. It's evolutionary.

Leave vidyakino to me.

too bad that levine used quantum mechanics as a story element since he liked the idea that he didn't understood quantum mechanics

>hans zimmer

No, period music only. And fuck Nolan, get Curtis Hanson to do it. He's due.

The first game was videogamekino itself. Gino?

>what is the Streisand-effect

>The real world player feeling abused by this is a major plot point
No, the protagonist being betrayed is a major plot point.
The player feels it second hand, like all interaction in a video game.
The player has no option to disobey Atlas's orders, so why would this feel like a betrayal to the player and not the character they happen to be controlling?
You know, the person in the narrative who is actually making decisions?
Jesus Christ.

>t. (literal) autism

The player is meant to identify with Jack. That's YOU running through Rapture, unknowingly obeying Atlas and betrayed by everyone. It seems that you have no theory of mind.

Can we talk about the travesty that was the subtitles in Bioshock 1?

>FONTAINE: My name's Atlas, boyo. And I'm here to get you through the city alive.

I spent the whole game wondering why everyone was freaked out about Fontaine before I realised that the retards in charge of subs had fucked it all up.

I didn't notice, is it fixed in the PS3 version?

Wouldn't know, I only played the 360 version. I imagine there was a pretty decent uproar about it, so probably.

It would be a great trilogy
>Rapture in the first episode
>Columbia in the second
>Back to Rapture (Burial Sea) as the finale

>the player has no option to disobey
Bingo.
Games offer illusion of choice. Bioshock subverted that expectation.
This ain't hard to grasp.

I want to do awful things to her

>Columbia
>Ever
Infinite was god awful.

...

no

This.
When will the endless horde of enemies, zero plot, artificial difficulty, fad die?

Really upset me that 343 decides to do the same thing with halo 4

>every street, road or building have a toll
>logical path for humanity

I think a Mark Meltzeresque storyline would be great, have the movie set in the mid 60's inbetween the Ryan and Lamb sagas, it can explore how desperate things got without anyone to lead the city.

Yes.
That final fight eh?
And even ignoring the pretentious and dull lighthouses ending, the plot fell apart the second they said "I'll hop to a new reality to get this item and assume the Vox in that reality will be identical to this one."
It made Booker seem retarded and it assumed players were retarded.

how is this possible

All the other ideologies are germinations of unrestricted libertarianism of nature. Everyone in nature is free to do what they can, and some people can enslave the rest, and do so.

You could even call them cancers, but I think that is going too far.

Tell that to Facebook, Reddit, 9Gag and Tumblr

because Rapture was such a success, right?

Bioshock 2 works because it has a shitton more replay value and the story isn't all about revealing some epic twist.

Without the magic science it might have been

>Bioshock
>High concept cerebral sci-fi
Tee hee.

Splicing was just a catalyst, Rapture was always a powder keg.

Michelle Trachtenberg?

but there is a twist.

the twist is that there is no twist

>the weapons aren't here?
>They MUST have already been given to our friends!
>That's the only possible explanation!

or pic related

>tfw Sinclair never willingly betrays you and continues to help you even as you put him down

Racism is illogical though.

>Sinclair
