Spanish Learning Thread / Hilo de Aprendizaje de Español

This thread is for the discussion of the language and culture of Spain and latinamerica

Common misconceptions of the Spanish language:
>J, is pronounced as a strong H
Spanish laugh "jajaja" is just the same than english "hahaha", but the "H" in Spanish is usually softer or doesn't make a sound.

>The strong R and Ñ
Often the hardest things to pronounce for foreigners.
For a strong R, you are supposed to vibrate your tongue on top of your mouth. For Ñ, wich always comes before a vowel, you can just pronounce every "Ñ" as "ni" and its pretty close. Mañana = Maniana.

>False friends
A lot of words in english have relatively direct translations in Spanish, but a few words have a completely different meaning while being almost the same word. "Constipado" in Spanish means that you have a cold, and implies having a lot of mucus in the nose. The translation of the English word "constipated" is actually "estreñido". Diarrhea is just diarrea tho.

Ask your questions and doubts about Spanish and someone will try to help you !

Is it worth learning Spanish? I have dyslexia so learning a lanuage is pretty difficult. I had German and French in school but never really liked it. But I always liked Spanish more. Any advise or sites I could use to try and learn just a bit.

Don't learn Peninsular accent. It's useless in global scale. Learn neutral accent (which is Mexican, those CNN and the Simpsons accent) instead.

It worth, trust me. 3rd most spoken language in the world.
And you can meet teens with brown skin and big titties.

Flaite = chorro, villero
Callampa = cero
waton = guatón = panzón

PLEASE KEEP MAKING THESE THREADS!!

I don't have time to participate right now but I am really trying to learn Spanish and need some Amigos to help me.

Thank you kind sir.

Es sutilmente diferente

HELP

Lol, but is rly easy to learn spanish in the USA.
I mean... you have soo many "latinos" for practice.

Really wanted to post this image from my Duolingo practice today

>Really makes you think

I think I'm starting to make decent progress in my Spanish studies after a year. I'm still only A1 or A2 but I feel like reading and listening is starting to get easier for me. When I heard Spanish it all used to sound like a blur but now I'm starting to be able to understand what the person is saying.
Also I'm starting to be able to resd/listen without translating in my head.

My daily routine is
>Couple minutes of practice with Duolingo while commuting
>Reading random shit in Spanish for maybe 30 mins
>Keeping Spanish TV on in the background with subtitles on
>Listening to music or Spanish radio while on commute

Spanish feels like one of the best starter languages for English speakers.

Yo olvidé mi imágene.

Those times :(

>Yo
Don't need to include pronouns, are most of the time unnecessary. (Kinda like am doing now with English.)

Some claim the voiceless/voiced merge was due to Basque influence. Is this true?

Yes, except the "arabic" j,, i think, which i dont know where it comes from, but I havent investigated either

Anyway, not all the changes I think have been bad, I adore the zeta

>Peninsular
Does this mean that south americans don't understand European Spanish?

The "Arabic J" doesn't look like influence for me, but rather accommodation (S>ç to make sibilants more distinct, then ç>x to make it velar as [k] and [g]). But stuff as [z]>[s] and [dz]>[ts] is really weird, usually languages go the other way.

Just keep on posting in this threads and we will help you. Lot of anons around willing to help.

Ayuda

icarito.cl/2009/12/99-4276-9-2-la-acentuacion.shtml/

Also, read more, and write more with a pen, not with your pc, phone or whatever. That fucks your writing.

No me gusta los chicanos. Tienen que ir patras.

This is a language thread, keep your political views out of here pls. Btw "patras" does not exists in castellano.

Was a joke amigo, cálmese. My Spanish isn't very good anyway.

La H siempre es muda en español.
Hacha, helado, holograma...
