MODS STICKY
kys newfag
I told myself I wouldn't cry...
Stop asking the mods to sticky. Every one of these topics has died relatively quickly because of the fact that ultimately Can has only ever been a fashion band here, to show to people so you can look cool. And the worst thing is, I used to say this ironically until now with Jaki's death. Watch this topic die a shit death as well just like the other topics because ultimately nobody here cares enough about Jaki nor Can.
Back on topic, I am not gonna lie, even though Ege Bamyasi is my least favorite of the big three Can albums, it's also got probably my favorite performances from this guy. He always worked best for me when it was mainly maintaining grooves but at the same time adding/subtracting from the grooves.
Why do you feel the need to say that everyone likes Can for "the wrong reasons?" They are probably the most accessible of the major krautrock bands so it makes sense that they frequently appear on charts. You sound like a child. Other people are allowed to like Can, get over it.
I have a genuine love for their music, I remember walking home from school while listening to Future Days and being in awe of the hypnotic sounds the band created. But if you saw my chart, you would most likely claim Future Days is only on there as a "fashion statement" because most of my other albums would probably be considered entry level. But I and many others feel no need to pose and openly enjoy what we enjoy. It's elitists like you who feel the need to come attack everyone because "you like it wrong!!1!" If they can derive enjoyment from it, who the fuck are you to say otherwise or deny them that enjoyment and say it's "not right."
>Why do you feel the need to say that everyone likes Can for "the wrong reasons?"
Because this along with all the other RIP Jaki threads have proved it right.
As an aspiring drummer, it's sad to see someone like Jaki to go. I'm grateful to have stumbled upon Can, especially with how much Jaki's playing influences me.
Rest in peace.
Is your point that because all these threads have died that means no one legitimately cares about Can? One of these threads got over 200 replies, so I don't know how much water that holds.
I enjoy and appreciate Can, it's just that they're relatively unknown even to this day (at least here in the US). On top of that, they were all talented musicians in their own right, but none of them ever stole the show, it was a very collaborative group. The parts added up to an even greater whole, which unfortunately doesn't work in the favor of the individual band members in terms of getting recognition. Because of this, none of the guys from Can will be remembered for very long, or by very many people.
That said, I think the music of Can will survive and maybe even rise in popularity as time goes on, as hidden gems are gradually sifted from yesterdays Top 40 watered down bullshit that didn't last.
