Literally who?

MODS STICKY

kys newfag

I told myself I wouldn't cry...

Stop asking the mods to sticky. Every one of these topics has died relatively quickly because of the fact that ultimately Can has only ever been a fashion band here, to show to people so you can look cool. And the worst thing is, I used to say this ironically until now with Jaki's death. Watch this topic die a shit death as well just like the other topics because ultimately nobody here cares enough about Jaki nor Can.

Back on topic, I am not gonna lie, even though Ege Bamyasi is my least favorite of the big three Can albums, it's also got probably my favorite performances from this guy. He always worked best for me when it was mainly maintaining grooves but at the same time adding/subtracting from the grooves.

Why do you feel the need to say that everyone likes Can for "the wrong reasons?" They are probably the most accessible of the major krautrock bands so it makes sense that they frequently appear on charts. You sound like a child. Other people are allowed to like Can, get over it.

I have a genuine love for their music, I remember walking home from school while listening to Future Days and being in awe of the hypnotic sounds the band created. But if you saw my chart, you would most likely claim Future Days is only on there as a "fashion statement" because most of my other albums would probably be considered entry level. But I and many others feel no need to pose and openly enjoy what we enjoy. It's elitists like you who feel the need to come attack everyone because "you like it wrong!!1!" If they can derive enjoyment from it, who the fuck are you to say otherwise or deny them that enjoyment and say it's "not right."

>Why do you feel the need to say that everyone likes Can for "the wrong reasons?"
Because this along with all the other RIP Jaki threads have proved it right.

As an aspiring drummer, it's sad to see someone like Jaki to go. I'm grateful to have stumbled upon Can, especially with how much Jaki's playing influences me.
Rest in peace.

Is your point that because all these threads have died that means no one legitimately cares about Can? One of these threads got over 200 replies, so I don't know how much water that holds.

I enjoy and appreciate Can, it's just that they're relatively unknown even to this day (at least here in the US). On top of that, they were all talented musicians in their own right, but none of them ever stole the show, it was a very collaborative group. The parts added up to an even greater whole, which unfortunately doesn't work in the favor of the individual band members in terms of getting recognition. Because of this, none of the guys from Can will be remembered for very long, or by very many people.

That said, I think the music of Can will survive and maybe even rise in popularity as time goes on, as hidden gems are gradually sifted from yesterdays Top 40 watered down bullshit that didn't last.

The idea's that there are certainly a good lot who do in fact do that. Obviously saying that EVERYONE does it is a ridiculous claim, as that would imply that even my post in this topic is responsible for it.

>One of these threads got over 200 replies, so I don't know how much water that holds.
Yeah the first one only got about 300 replies in all. Even less notorious/popular/respected people that died last year got more than that.

Holy shit OP isn't memeing
Mods sticky
RIP, what an absolute legend

I'm pretty sure that liking how the music sounds is a better reason to like music than having a personal emotional stake in the lives of the musicians.

>but none of them stole the show
If any of them were to, it would be Jaki.

>but none of them ever stole the show
What? Jaki and Suzuki have always been the two most popular guys from the band. It's always either talking about Suzuki's weird overthetop vocals or Jaki's unconventional groovy approach to drums that are not actually influenced by funk despite being so funky.

Missing the grander point here. Lurk more

R.I.P.

;_;

FFFFFFFFF

Which song are you listening to right now, bros?
Vitamin C for me. I just left a stupid post on facebook about it, it feels so cheesy, but I really love everyone from Can. Seeing them in interviews and everything, I don't know much about their personal lives, but I always respected them.

Listening to Soon Over Babaluma for the first time after much neglect. Up to Chain Reaction, really good so far

Spoon

His drumming on Ege Bamyasi is incredible.

>GREATEST DRUMMER OF ALL TIME DIES
>MODS DONT STICKY
>NOT EVEN 20 REPLIES

Sup Forums- Music

r.i.p.

A superhuman drummer, and in the way that very FEW musicians could he made sustained repetition exciting and captivating - the James Brown AND Miles Davis of drummers.

youtube.com/watch?v=390Nz5Gm8Hw

A musician every drummer should aspire to. Man what a loss

Oh fuck it is true

This is so much better than the studio version.

Irmin looks fucking ridiculous on that synth though.

We already had a massive thread last night with hundreds of posts. Not every single musician in the world who gets old and dies needs to have a sticky.

Wake up and see this...Going to drown my sorrows in some Future Days.

what the fuck, way to ruin all promise, 2017

Soup for me, the drums are repeating themselves to the point it ends up sounding like a frenzy locomotive or heavy machinery. All of Ege Bamyasi has GOAT drumming though, RIP Jaki ;_;

What can song has your favorite drumming?

For me it would either be halleluwah or you doo right.

Vitamin C, Pinch and Spoon.

>tfw I only know that song Parappa The Rapper sampled from

Press F to pay respects.

F

Ah shit man, rip
youtube.com/watch?v=Nzry1jz2-oA

One of their best live performances of one of their best songs

typical Sup Forumsirgin, doesn't listen to any music unless it's been in a videogame.

3/4 drum machine 1/4 man RIP

Fuck, the drumming on Can is one of my favorite things in music.
RIP.
Halleluwah or Pinch.

Listening to Halleluwah right now, this guy was a fucking machine. Absolutely perfect timing

Rip Jaki. Got to listen to Can all day today.

Spray is underrated AF

Also Barnacles from The Lost Tapes, so groovy

Wouldn't Clyde Stubblefield be the the James Brown of drummers?

Pinch definetely.
Jaki's steadyness keeps you hooked,in fact, all of Ege Bamyasi is a must listen for top tier drumming in general.
Plus its as funky as Herbie Hancock's records of the time.

I hated Tago Mago at first but the more I listen to it the more I slowly keep coming back and hearing what makes it so good. Even the second half.

F

this sucks he was the GOAT
kys

F

I just downloaded Tago Mago today because I wanted to listen to CAN for real for the first time then he died

What do you want me to listen to next?

Ege Bamyasi of course.

personal list is
>monster movie
>future days
>ege
>tago mago
>sountracks
and haven't heard the rest. ege is the most classic though, so go there.

I listened to them chronologically, i think everyone should cause they change their styles pretty drastically with every new album.

Lost tapes and Soundtracks are pretty friccin good too, because they're basically just mixed bags with a little of everything.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
he was the fucking BEST what the fuck

wtf i hate setting my watch now

>those drum fills on you doo right
boi

GODS FUCKING WHAT WHY

Fuck my life. I'm so fucking happy i saw him play with Burnt Friedman last year. Favourite drummer of all time by far. Fuck fuck fuck.

>he's losin he's losin he's losin
>his vitamin C

;_;

RIP

Moonshake is underrated as shit. For something a bit less well known, he was also a beyond incredible free jazz drummer.
youtube.com/watch?v=qBDpVb2qka8

This performance of Vernal Equinox is also insane.
youtube.com/watch?v=I4nHr44vE9I

Also here's my Can-collection. Any requests on shit i could upload?

>nobody here cares enough about Jaki nor Can
sure thing buddy

Can you make a zip of the live shows?
Would love to have those

You're really dumb.

There's no fucking reason to invest yourself emotionally in the life of a musician whose music you like.

Seems like i already had 2 of them uploaded;

Here's 1971 - Mother Sky:
mega.nz/#!KwIzGIQS!eaRwvBEm2TW26vJ8NhfIUDrvMcYgP_JW2onfJQfagrM

Basically a whole bunch of jams, Can at it's freakiest.

The Peel Sessions is more of a studiojam for John Peel:
mega.nz/#!vo5l0aCQ!amnq_zREvfnAPeh4j561AQRkiJQiZNfSxK97SesSy90

It does include Up The Bakerloo Line With Anne which is one of my favs of Can.

I'll upload a bunch more, may take a while though.

Can - Great Britain Vol. 2
mega.nz/#!L9QWgJAA!4yZfeuWWJf4652Q7KSjWG-80u5BokE_jrOfsKhNXSuU

Damo Suzuki had left by here, Holger Czukay had gone to the knobs, bleeps and samples. Some solid funky shit here.

Can - Queueing Down
mega.nz/#!el4FHbgI!nL5i0TUvPmWmHWv1V0rWMXUdszKZpylREhxCfORdLKc

One of my favs. Has a 35 minute jam called Queueing Down, which is basically a lesson in how to build and expand jams.

Ends with for me the definitive version of Vitamin C, clocking in at 13 minutes.

Where did you get the name "Queueing Down" from? The scans included say "Whole People Queueing" and the name isn't mentioned anywhere at all

Fuck if i know man, pretty sure it was tagged like that when i downloaded it. It's a bootleg, noones really sure. Here, this blog has it tagged as Queueing Down: weeaboo.wordpress.com/2008/02/19/bootleg-can-live-in-paris-051273/

Also here's Can - Live In Edinburgh
mega.nz/#!SlZWTDwA!W75t-8p_JW1zry_s4CNWKVevRhBClSEHhXKEZ4_Y300

This whole concert is again basically an excersise in prolonged jamming. Again, don't ask me about the tagging. This lad here has the 30 min song tagged as Bel Air instead of Stone Strike; youtube.com/watch?v=RRzH_3ICuns

>that drum transition between Paperhouse and Mushroom

fuck, this is a sad day now...

Can - Volkshalle 1971
mega.nz/#!SsBjnSgK!EbWFkPAuyGY6rVO2Y7B6BTFsxzJAKaWyJ2WpIsk8HUo

I'm pretty sure this was the only live version of Yoo Doo Right i could find. Also got Turtles Have Short Legs in all it's glory on it.

Can - Future Days And Past Nights
mega.nz/#!i5xgADKL!_taLZdCy8_klenKnW01BUNaOB0yQlieZclrRwVhfspI

Recorded shortly before Damo Suzuki left the band to get all religious and shit. Probably the best sound quality of the bunch. Also just look at that glorious album cover.

Can - Hanover 1975 - Hanover 1976
mega.nz/#!vtxATCCJ!kGVXXUcESRHqVdzWNS6F77ojdodJjZQUVRBtAcvo6lc

Two concerts on here. First one got another rock solid Vitamin C, a rare performance of Bel Air and the best version of One More Night.

Second concert they go deep.

The first thread made it to over 200 replies fag, that's a lot for Sup Forums.

Can is absolutely Sup Forumscore and you're showing how new you are by arguing otherwise.
