Depends on the type of call centre and type of work.

If its outward bound, cold-calling sales yeah they will literally take anyone and give them a shot to see if they can sell. If they don't make sales they will be sacked in a week.

Other call centres are more selective. Especially if the company invests a lot in training. In my call centre they spend like 8 weeks in training then several months still technically in training roles getting eased into real work. If you think about it, it costs the company £1000s of pounds to train a group of 7-8 people for a month. These people are just sitting in a room going through training material and could leave at any time. Because of this some call centres will actually be quite selective in who they hire.
