3 months in India

Hey Sup Forums, especially Indian Anons

I never visit this board but I need to ask a few questions. My job is sending me to India alone for 3 months, to Bangalore to be more precise:

>Will I get raped (I'm a girl btw)
>Is pepper spray legal to carry there ?
>Will I get super bored ? I'll be staying in a 5 star hotel with a pool, etc. but even that can get boring
>How easy is it to make interesting local friends ? Where do I meet cool people there ?
>Will I get diarrhea from eating local food ?

Only serious replies please, thanks

Caution and common sense.

If you're about to get raped run to the nearest toilet. The witch will protect you.

>You will get stared at a lot. Try to stay in groups, don't be alone after dark, exercise caution.

>I think it is.

>Dunno about banglore but if you're into it we have lots of ancient architecture. There is fun stuff to do I guess. Depends on your interests.
I've heard the traffic in banglore is the worst so be prepared.

>If you learn a word or two in the local language everyone should be super thrilled and excited about you.

> I have no clue. If I knew how to make friends id not be on a Mongolian knitting board.

> Yes probably. Buy/ pack some ORS. While you're at it get some mosquito repellant cream too. Also please dont drink anything but bottled water. Check for the seal/puffiness of the bottle too.

Happy to answer any other questions.

Who the FUCK are you quoting?

Each of OP questions

POO

Pretty much what he said. Just be casual.
Weirdos are everywhere.

Make sure to try out salwar suit.

Oh great, an Indian ! Where do you live in India ?

Thanks for the tips btw. I also want to go on weekend trips to some other cities like Goa, Mumbai, Agra (for the Taj Mahal hihi)and Varanasi. Do you recommend going by plane or train ? I kinda like the train idea, reminds me of the film "The darjeeling limited" but I don't know how safe it is.

Also how do I avoid getting ripped off by taxis ?

And: How am I supposed to dress ? I heard Bangalore was pretty westernized so I was just planning to bring regular work clothes.

>Only serious replies please, thanks
And that's where you missed. Sup Forums isn't a serious place, more like an autistic place.

Do smart indians drink nothing but bottled water? I'd think you could just put a brita filter on your sink and you would be fine

You wont get raped as long as you stick to urban areas and not go out after 10-11pm.

Dont know the legality of pepper spray, im probably sure youre gonna be allowed to carry it in your suitcase. I took a paintball gun in my suitcase and except for a few moments in delhi when I had to recheck+scan my bags. The guy asked me if I was carrying cigarettes & if I was afghan which is weird cause im very south indian looking.

You probably will get bored 75% of the time. What is your job? Is it tech related, lot of the BPO jobs are mostly night shifts in india so people arent free during the day. Others work during the day so youre stuck in limbo. You will have to wait for the weekend but there are things to do and see. I went to this resort in hyderabad and they had an indoor surfing machine and it was amazing.

Its very easy to make friends in india, youre the foreigner so people will want to speak to you. Honestly I would just suggest you make friends at your work, you can meet people at bars and whatnot but not a lot of girls go to them. Guys may think that you will sleep with them easily, just keep some distance and make friends with girls more. Theyre less likely to do stuff outside but it will be safer for you.

Yea you probably will but if you eat a a nice restaurant or at a good hotel your chances are lower. Sometimes it doesnt even have to do anything with the food but just the spices. On my last trip to india I got sick from eating a pastry!!! There are lots of places to buy medicine and you cant self medicate so easily in india. I bought a bunch of generic viagra for shits and giggles.

New Delhi

I would recommend air travel if you can afford it due to safety concerns. Else book the first class on trains. Trains here are prone to delays more than those even in Italy so bear that in mind.

Use uber whenever you can. At the airport you should get the government prepaid taxi if your company isn't paying for you.
Side note I think uber is banned by unions in Bangalore so you're fucked. Haggle haggle haggle. If possible get a local to negotiate. Autos are impossible anyway. Maybe look into services like redbus, shuttl or maybe the local metro. Tbh i don't know a lot about banglore

Dressing professionally should be okay. It's gonna be hot but you should cover your skin anyway cause sunburn and mosquitoes are gonna make it hell.

We do have filtration systems or just boil it. Our water comes from overhead tanks which can always be contaminated.

It will not be rape if you enjoy

People who can afford it do and so many people are buying bottled water. They get those water cooler jugs but in their homes they pour the water into water bottles and keep it inside the fridge. I drank it for a couple months and nothing happened to me from the water.

So for the OP I would just suggest she drink soft drinks if shes out at places and drink water people give her at their home if theyre middle class and up. You can ask them if its filtered water. 90% of the time I was drinking sprite/coke/pepsi & mango drinks.

I work in the IT field but I'll be working mostly during the day.
>not go out after 10-11pm.
Really ? That's like... super early. So I'm stuck doing things only in the weekends I guess.
Also there are almost no girls in the company where I'm going. But the guys I will work with seem nice, even though I only talked to them through email.
Thanks !

Oh I didn't know there was uber in India. I guess it's the safest choice since the price is fixed beforehand. And yeah my company is paying for the taxi from the airport.

Last question: Is it true that is super complicated to buy an indian sim card ?

My boss told me he once bought a coke bottle and it had been opened and rebottled... also he caught a parasite and was sick for days...

Going for weekend trips will be difficult unless your fly there and back. Trains are not a good idea, you will deal with crowds and delays and theyre just not worth the headache. There are some hillstations in the south like ooty, munnar or hampi.

Install ola & uber, I used old a lot. Found it to be cheap but sometimes the drivers dont show up on time even if its been 15 mintues and it shows theyre 5 minutes away.

Dress conservatively, long pants and shirts. Look at your female coworkers, most will wear leggings with an shirt or an indian top with a scarf. Youre gonna be the foreigner so youre gonna get stares no matter what you wear.

Dunno about foreigners but as citizens we just need an ID proof to get a SIM. Maybe look into Matrix or some other company that offers international SIM cards.

How much would it cost to make an international call to France for example ? How about 6 G of data ? I found that information nowhere...

Get your company to arrange a local simcard at your hotel.

Day time shift shouldnt be too bad.

You can go out but theres not a lot of things that are really open too late. You can go to clubs and stuff but most other things will be closed. It is what it is in india, india is conservative and much more in the south.

Thats too bad, well just be careful. Just use your intuition and go with your gut feeling. Indian guys are harmless but theyre just super desperate to get laid so it should be easy to tell who is genuinely interested in who you are vs someone who thinks white girls have casual sex easily.

You can inspect it closely but buying a softdrink is a safer bet than water bottles at a restaurant. You could carry your own water bottle if you dont mind dragging a bit of extra weight in your purse.

As for the sim, you might be able to get one at their airport but im not sure if it will be useful for your length of stay. Getting a sim should be easy, it might take a couple days to activate it. It took 2 days for mine last time, they had to send it to another office and they had to manually enter it into the system.

For vodafone a call to france can be 15-100 inr a minute. You could use whatsapp calls or Skype or hangouts or something.
Data is cheap. I get 2 gb at 150.
Again plans vary from circle to circle and you can find out more at the vodafone india site. Select banglore on the top right.

>New Delhi
Just one question - how do you survive in the late spring/summer?

Air conditioning, desert coolers and drinking lots of water.
Skin that tans and not burns helps.

Bring your own Toiletpaper

All Indians I've ever met were self-hating, had no social awareness, males were lonely as FUCK and will get clingy if you even acknowledge their existence. And that's because I'm male, make it tenfold for a female.

You'd better off keeping a safe distance from acquaintances and all that street-smarts I'm sure you as a woman probably already had to learn on how to keep horny dudes being nice at bay.

Also, someone should redo this pic with 30ÂșC and an Indian flag. Good luck enduring the heat.
