>Next weekend

You mean when Star Trek comes out and buries this shit?

Or next weekend when Jason Bourne buries it?

Or maybe the next weekend when Suicide Squads buries it?

This movie is done

It's got two days before it's completely forgotten by moviegoers.

And of course it'll reach 150, but they've still got to make back what they spent on advertising before, and even then it's not a success unless it can get twice that.

The domestic is almost as bad as Warcraft.

>these are comedies

those are action movies and people who want to see a comedy will go see ghostbusters

Sup Forums BLOWN THE FUCK OUT

Isn't "Answer the call" a bad tagline? The whole charm of "Who ya gonna call?" is that it's talking to the audience, as if it's an actual extermination company.

>Sup Forums BTFO

>of course it'll reach 150
I'm not so sure

Just keep telling yourself that, We will be here to prove you wrong.

>new star trek
>new ice age
naw

It should have made $100 million opening weekend easily. Even Fant4stic opened in first place.

Just checked, Fantastic Four opened with only $25 million.

no it didnt

mission impossible beat it

>Sup Forums is wrong again

but bourne and star trek are funnier than any melissa mcarthy/kristen wiig movie

Ice Age: Collision Course is out on the 22nd as well.

Also a reminder this movie opened at #2 in the box office behind Secret Life of Pets, and has stayed there.

what is plateau, OP ?

People don't generally choose what movie they want to see by genre. They pick the one that looks the best

>will be over 150 million by next weekend
>Sup Forums BTFO

Anyone who gloats about something that's supposedly going to happen in the future is just revealing a lack of confidence in their own predictions.

This will make 122 million at most, Sony BTFO

>will be over 150 million by next weekend

It needs over 400 to be profitable. Is over.

>Movie has yet to clear 100 million
>Big ticket pictures opening next week, with more to come after

It'll be in dollar shows before August ends

...

Oh, so the goal is to break even? Lofty. Very very lofty.

oh right... cuz i'm sure its going to somehow miraculously have a 0% drop in sales

Remember this was made to be a Summer Blockbuster

Stop saying Sup Forums BTFO.

We liked the movie.

What do you mean 'we', white man?

Budget $144 million

Sony is getting desperate after losing Spider Man

pro.boxoffice.com/weekend-forecast-star-trek-beyond-ice-age-collision-course-lights/

$69 million left to regain it's budget costs, maybe less than that since b.o.m isn't counting UK earnings

It could still make a profit. The next 4 weeks will tell

...

Not all of that goes to Sony, the theaters take a cut. Add onto that figure the marketing budget, which isn't included in the $144 million, and you have yourself a financial blunder.

K, let's see you say anything once Ice Age overshadows it.

Lol they aren't going to earn the entire foreign amount. For all intents and purposes, it's sub 60 million.

It made about 60 million of that last weekend. It's barely made anything worldwide this week. This weekend it's going to get fucking buried, and week after next too. This movie is done, Box Office bomb. Good riddance.

...

GHOSTBUSTERS WAS PULLED TODAY FROM MY IMAX AFTER PUTTING UP NUMEROUS COMPLETELY EMPTY SHOWINGS

STAR TREK REPLACES IT TOMORROW, ALREADY NEARLY SOLD OUT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT

THIS IS WHAT GHOSTBUSTERS THE BLOCKBUSTER WAS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE LAST FRIDAY, BUT INSTEAD WAS A GHOST TOWN :^)

500 MILLION WORLDWIDE FOR A SUCCESS SAYS FEIG

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE DIVIDED BY 2 IS HOW MUCH SONY TAKES HOME, TO TRY TO FILL THEIR 244 MILLION DOLLAR SJW SINKHOLE

G O O D L U C K

Why did they spend this much on a comedy for real?
Adam Sandler must be shakin his head.

>I'm not so sure
It probably will. It got to 46 million on opening weekend. It would at least get that much again for the rest of its domestic run, and get that much for international. But that would still be a bomb because that is basically the bottom of the barrel ticket sales ratio for any bad film that was ever made.

I know that but it may be closer to $144mil than what's been reported
Yeah it might be a long shot but.. Sup Forums's never been right about a movie flopping, the odds are stacked against the naysayers, there's still time

They desperately wanted a franchise after losing Spider Man with sequels. But they gave zero fucks about the abundant material to work with, wanted to stretch out Gozer shit for 3 movies, and alienated their audience. This entire thing was a gamble and they lost

But feminists said they'd all buy 50 tickets each.

Feminists were supposed to save movies for women, females characters with such strong characterisation as;
>Fat girl who loves x food
>Socially awkward buy wacky girl
>Lolrandumb girl who is crazy and peppy
>AWW HELL NAW ebonics token black girl

Why did terrorists white males ruin this, there is no other way this movie could have failed. It wasn't so bad that even children thought it looked dumb.

...

>Implying it'll make the same 2nd week as it did opening weekend
>Implying 75mil is good considering Feig said it'd have to crack 500mil
>Implying it's anywhere close to making its production budget back, not even factoring in the TONS of cash they dumped into advertising/marketing
>Implying it won't be buried by Trek/Bourne/SKWAD

But we're totally getting that sequel though! It'll come out the same year we get Amazing Spider-Man 3, Sinister Six, Fant4stic 2...

>It'll make $500 million worldwide, under performing domestically and not opening in China
>Y-You'll see!

lmao

>Feig "cashed in all his chips" on a movie that he and Pascal both knew was just a Robocop/Total Recall/Karate Kid style "we have the rights, let's make some money" reboot
What a fucking idiot.

>Is beaten by a movie that's been out for two weeks
>Just manages to beat a movie that's been out for nearly a month
kek

It needs at least 3 times the budget you idiot.

>This entire thing was a gamble
More like producers agendas. This isn't what market wants, that is why they lost.

The comedy here is you actually think this movie will be successful. Raw numbers suggest it clearly will not.

SONY IS LITERALLY GOING TO LOSE 100 MILLION DOLLARS ON THIS SHITFLICK

AND ITS ALL THEIR DOING

You do not understand this people.

>ALIEN GHOSTS
>1 billion dollar idea

how does it cost so much? isn't the CGI akin to early 2000s?

There is justice in the world.
Maybe Pascal will get ousted.
Maybe they'll have a few more similarly sized bombs and shut the studio down entirely.
Maybe we don't give the causal public enough credit.

>the odds are stacked against the naysayers

Nope.

Not even. That's strictly the production budget. Ghostshillers apparently happy with a loss.

It's going to be a lot more than $100 million.

People conveniently forget things like tax, the cinema's cut of the ticket sales, distribution costs, and whatever loan interest Sony has to pay on top.

This movie will make at absolute best $200 million, so they'll be $300+ million in the red.

>yfw it's outta the top 3 come this weekend.

That isn't true, but that isn't what is going to kill it.

The lack of a Chinese release killed the movie.

Btw, the promotion of the movie costed dozens of millions as well.

Not going to break even.

Star Trek
Ice Age
Secret Life of Pets

Oh baby, she's dead Jim.

I want Sony Japan to shut down their film division and sell the IPs to the highest bidders. All they have is Emojis and Sausage Party for fuck sake

youtube.com/watch?v=wnVH0s1c9yY&feature=youtu.be

Yikes, that is a real quote: archive.is/mrjsd

too easy to trigger Sup Forums

you think I don't know about this fucking shit?

>vulture.com/2016/07/paul-feig-ghostbusters-reboot-c-v-r.html
> “A movie like this has to at least get to like $500 million worldwide, and that’s probably low,”

Think I didn't see that the foreign box office dropped from 19million in the sunday estimates to 18 million?

I started the first thread!! archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/72089242/#72089242

You think I don't know this movie has a 144 million budget with 100+ P&A?

Adam Sandler has no right to shake his head. His comedies have notoriously bloated budgets. Even a few of the Sony hacked emails detailed how irritated a lot of the executives were at the deals they had with Sandler, who did a lot better from his own movies than they did.

Like, alien ghosts isn't the WORST idea in this thing, considering the franchise is all about inter-dimensional beings.
Judging from Feig's emails, it sounded like it was gonna be a "our world isn't the only one with damned angry souls" rather than "SPOOKY SPACE KOOKS".

Really the worst idea of this was Pascal's insistence that Ghostbusters, a special-effects comedy about schlubby dudes who manage to save the day with science, be remade as an all-girl superhero team to go toe-to-toe with Avengers.

It's like remaking Citizen Kane as an action-packed buddy comedy, it makes you wonder if they've ever even seen the original film.

That was the worst thing. They did the "Suddenly Badass" trope at the end. Where a bunch of college professors and a subway worker suddenly have special forces combat training and perfect aim with unruly directed energy weapons when the plot demands it.

FUCK. THIS. MOVIE.

>GHOSTBUSTERS WAS PULLED TODAY FROM MY IMAX AFTER PUTTING UP NUMEROUS COMPLETELY EMPTY SHOWINGS

Citation needed?

CGI, even cheap shitty CGI costs more than doing things practically. Look at the Hobbit films. The green screen filled bullshit trilogy cost almost 3 times as much to produce as the Lord of the Rings films despite being a thousand times shittier and looking a million time worse.

>Why did they spend this much on a comedy for real?

It's just standard for movies today. All big blockbusters must cost between 100-300 million dollars. Always.

btw, adjusting for inflation, the budget of Ghost Busters 84 is 69 million, which would have been the perfect budget for this film.

Pascal isn't at Sony any more.

This. They were never badass in the original, just 4 guys doing a dirty job like a plumber or exterminator. The level of missing the point behind this project is astounding

>I want Sony Japan to shut down their film division and sell the IPs to the highest bidders.

What IPs? They have fucking nothing. The studio is of no value with its current assets and management.

Thank fucking god.
Did they return her to the special needs daycamp she escaped from?

>Pascal isn't at Sony any more.
She still got hired as Ghostbuster's produxer though. And Tom Rothman is even worse than her.

She has left and started her own production company. Fuck knows who will actually give them money to make movies given her horrendous track record.

Whatever. It's still going to get a sequel and that movie will have more freedom to be its own thing rather than being tied down by the original and expectations, and it will be far better and more successful because of that.

Just throwing it out there to collectors, their shit merch might be worth getting seeing how most of it will end up in the dumpster.

Nice roll, man!

I loved the implication had ghosts not have existed in Ghostbusters, Egon, Ray, and Peter would have been kicked out of NYU anyway and all they have to show for it is wasting their lives on pseudosciences.

but 50% of their budget in a week is horrible for a movie

>Sup Forums BTFO

youtube.com/watch?v=avCMAm_r-Jg

>NYU
I mean Columbia

>It needs 500 million to be considered a success by Sony according to Fieg too

Ghost Busters are portrayed as a combination of Firemen and exterminators.

youtu.be/mCP937VRfI4?t=55s

>Whatever. It's still going to get a sequel
GB isn't Fantastic 4. F4 kept getting sequels because Fox wanted to keep the rights. Sony Pictures have no incentive to waste money on sequels, even cheap ones, if they aren't going to profit.

The charm of "answer the call" is that Sony is talking to the audience as if they are soldiers in the war against muh soggy knees, racists, and general men, who are inherently rapists.
If you don't want to live in a world of rape, you must answer the call and kill all white men by watching Ghostbusters.

Yeah it doesn't make a ton of sense
It makes me think of Call of Duty or something, not fucking Ghostbusters

>Literally the only quality thing sorny can do is make sensors for other cameras

Sony's marketing is the only reason this shitpile even made what it did.

Imagine getting this thing and being told to sell it. Total nightmare.

>They could have made licensed a Ghostbusters anime for 1/20th of what the movie cost and made a ton of cash
Why is Sony Pictures run by invalids

They are also very successful in selling insurance policies in Japan.

...

I didn't know that.

Ghostbusters
"Ain't yo daddy's ghosts"

Because adding busters would make it too mouthy. Instead of making selling it as fresh due to having a new cast, it grants the target market relief that their dead fathers are not haunting the earth just to be horrifically removed by standard run of the mill, stock female characters.
