Warcraft. Example of a movie that came about 8 years too late.

ID4-2 came out 15 years to late and it made more money.

Great, just ~400M more to break even

Too bad it won't break even since China is not gonna save it's ass.

Reminder ghostbusters is pulled from Imax starting tommorow

Really? Warcraft did a minus of 86 million?

What do you mean it didn't work? Wasn't the Interview successful?

Controversial stuff aside, The Interview isn't half bad

but original ghostbusters is a bomb, its very popular, its a "classic", milking money from the name

warcraft for normal people is literal a who?

Jeff Goldblum

The advertising for ID was really good, the trailers are 1000% better than the actual movie which made people flcok to the cinemas in the first week; similar to Jurassic World.
Ghost Busters left a bad taste in people's mouths before it hit the cinema, and Warcraft was just too niche (both vidya and movie lover combination)

>muh domestic american bubble
>year 2016
stop living in the 90s

TFW based China carries Warcraft to profit, but refuses to tolerate GB

Is this real?

>domestic
Is this an indictment on Warcraft or on Ghostbusters?

production budget $144m

Neat. Now let's see it beat China's.

Why do you Americans have to ruin kino?

That doesn't include marketing. It will get back it's production budget but when Suicide Squad hits Ghostbusters will fall away completely. There's no profit in this film

both The BFG and Ghostbusters have a 73% Tomatometer

The BFG has a HIGHER average rating than Ghostbusters

yet, Ghostbusters is "Certified Fresh" and The BFG is not

why?

Good stuff, user.

At the very least, it needs $400 million to break even. A film generally needs to make twice its production budget. Theaters take half of the profit and Sony has to cover marketing too. But Paul Feig said it needed to hit $500 million. I doubt it'll reach either number.

...

...

>which made people flcok to the cinemas in the first week

Not really. Like Ghostbusters, it opened at #2 against an already-in-release animated film and made under $50million in its first weekend. As of last weekend, it still hadn't surpassed $100million domestic.

Unlike Ghostbusters, it did somewhat more respectably overseas.

you know studios only see about 10% of the box office from China, right?

GB had more than 75% at one point, which granted the "Certified Fresh", and has gone down since. It must go below 70% to lose the label.

it was mildly successful, but the company considers it a loss since they lost out on potential $30 + mill by trying to milk the online sale route instead of wide release in theater

it's still deceptive marketing. north korea has typewriters at best

I thought he was trying to allude to the fact that the movie won't be released in china at all.

Does Rotten Tomatoes ever revoke the certified fresh award? Did Sony urge them to evaluate it earlier than most movies? This seems like a pretty big cock up.

According to their rules, they do if it goes below 70%

You know studios get less than 50% of the BO, right?

The original Ghostbusters did not bomb at all.

In today's money it would have cost $70 million to make and grossed over $600 million, and it opened on a lot less screens than the new one. That's a helluva return.
