No nigga, I'm serious. You're retarded. Get yourself one of those rubber helmets before you hurt yourself accidentally.

And he's the retard?
Eva is trash pal, its just a generic mecha anime with a veneer of symbolism and bad Japanese storytelling.

it's also soundtrack kino
Honestly I believe you must have autism if you can't understand why people home Evangelion in such high regard. Did you not feel any emotional connection to the characters and their internal struggles?
>emotional connections to cartoon characters
>cartoon characters having internal struggles
who's really the autist here PROTIP (You)
What's that from?
I didn't feel any emotional connection because I didn't watch Eva as a teenager and have seen other shows tackle the same themes better, smarter and more coherently. I understand people enjoy it. I understand why. I just fundamentally disagree with them. Now, I don't really give a fuck that you enjoy Eva and feel you need to defend it, in fact I'm sure it will survive without your defence. I've said my piece and I'm not being drawn into any further debate. We disagree. Deal with it.
The Fire Rises, as well.

God, i can't stand animes like this
Not him but I really didn't like the characters, especially Asuka and Shinji. And I thought the themes were better shown in Tenshi no Tamago.
But that's just me, ain't gonna start shitting on the most beloved animu on 8/2chan just to trigger autists.
>didn't like the characters
Didn't like as in you found them unpleasant or didn't like as in you found them to be poorly realized individuals? The answer to this question is the key.
Also which specific themes were better shown in Angel's Egg? I've never considered them to be similar.
I don't think they're poorly realized at all, I just couldn't stand them. Again, matter of personal taste.
>themes
Well, Judeo-Christian themes of live, death, rebirth, cycles of Heaven, all that. Although I suppose Noah's Ark vs Tree of Life is really not the same thing. And Tenshi was more about Oshii losing his faith than anything else.
Rude.
>I just couldn't stand them
>disliking fiction because you dislike the characters
pleb detected, I bet you think Janice is the worst character in The Sopranos too.
>themes
>judeo-christian themes of life, death, rebirth, cycles of heaven, all that
Are you sure you didn't read Devilman by mistake? Evangelion is about dealing with social isolation.
>disliking fiction because you dislike the characters
Why the fuck would I sit myself through tons of shit if I find the characters annoying? Why would I punish myself?
>I bet you think Janice is the worst character in The Sopranos too.
Livia post season 1 was the worst. Other than that Sopranos doesn't have bad characters you mong.
>Evangelion is about dealing with social isolation.
I must have hallucinated all the Judeo-Christian imagery then. You retarded fuck.
Is the trilogy of Berserk movies any good? Was thinking of checking it out, but for whatever reason, only the first one is on Netflix.
>Why the fuck would I sit myself through tons of shit if I find the characters annoying? Why would I punish myself?
If you dislike the character's they must at least have some character to them. Have you tried thinking about why you dislike Shinji and Asuka in particular, it might be interesting.
>Livia
Did nothing wrong and was incredibly entertaining
>Judeo-Christian imagery
That's pretty much all it was. The ancient conspiracy stuff is intentionally convoluted window-dressing. It's mostly to create a sense of confusion, uncertainty and dread towards the greater overarching plot. There are people who will tell you that SEELE were really the Elders of Zion, that Kaworu is literally Jesus and that at the end Asuka is pregnant with a saviour but I don't really think that that matters. What matters is Shinji's epiphany in episode 26. That's what the whole show was building up to and Anno couldn't have made it clearer that that's what he wanted you to take from the show.
I know what I dislike about Shinji and Asuka.
>Shinji is an annoying whiny asshole.
>Asuka is a blowhard annoying bitch
Again, personal taste. I couldn't stand Catcher in the Rhye for the exact same reason, I found the characters annoying.

The show does the original story much better justice. On top of that I find the show more pleasing to look at. The style Berserk was originally drawn in translates better into 90s cell-animation anime visuals than 2010s CG animation anime visuals.
The use of colour in the tv series is much stronger and gives the whole thing a warm but dark Middle-Europe look while the new movies look somewhat washed out and sterile. Also the new animation ranges from jarring and unnaturally fluid to decent drawn-stuff while the tv series is more consistent but not as fluid, and also relies somewhat heavily on postcard frames for bigger scenes (a shot which pans across a single highly detailed image rather than a moving scene).
The show's soundtrack is also fantastic and while the movie's preserve a lot of this I think that some of the magic is gone from the new tracks and the old ones aren't used as well. And lastly and most importantly the show is longer, and I think that for the particular story that Berserk is out to tell the intimacy and familiarity afforded by the longer running-time is actually a very strong point in the show's favour.
Berserk is at its core a very solid story so no matter how you get it you'll probably have a good time, but my judgement is
Manga > tv series > movies
Also if you're wondering about the dub I think that it's actually very good. The guy they got to play Griffith (the most important character next to the protagonist) is absolutely, spot-on perfect.
Pic related is animation from the show, it still looks pretty solid when it wants to.
Holy shit you gigapleb stop having opinions, please. This is the worst kind of criticism because you can't even address it it's so shallow. You might as well say you dislike The Deer Hunter because it's about Americans. There's simply nothing to be done for it.

Thanks for the response, I actually watched the first episode of the old anime a couple weeks ago and I think I'll stick with it. The first episode was pretty good, but I didn't get quite as into it as I was hoping to. I've been reading the manga and I've been absolutely loving it (just got to the chapter with Schierke and the trolls), but admittedly, the Black Swordsman arc didn't grab me as much as the Golden Age arc did after it, so I can only imagine it gets better. Plus, that gif looks miles better than anything in the first episode. Looking forward to it. Golden Age movies still worth watching at least? I've been hearing mixed things about the new anime, too.
Wolf Children is true anime kino.
>he picks the one furry episode
It's great though
You brought up disliking the characters like it's a fault in the show, or at the very least a valid reason to dislike it. You can dislike the characters all you want but if you think that's a strike against the show that's absolutely wrong. I think I might have misinterpreted all of this now.
>waaaaaaaaaahh
intellectual checkmate, I concede
>that gif looks miles better than anything in the first episode
I wouldn't say that the show gets better, it kind of middles out around what you've already seen with brief moments of genuine quality.
I really enjoyed this one.
haha oh you guys hehe
Welcome to the NHK
Now you have. I didn't say it was the fault of the show, how thick are you in the skull? I don't like them I don't blame the show for it, you autistic fucking idiot.
Where in my posts did I say the show was bad? Where? All I said is I found the characters annoying. Me. Get it? Or do you need an MS Paint graph to understand you humongous pleb?
>But that's just me
Literally the 2nd paragraph. You fucking dolt.
stop watching fuckin baby shows
action anime kino
You said that you found the characters annoying in response to an open question about things that handle what Evangelion does better than Evangelion. I'm trying to work out what your problem with Eva/the characters is here but I'm having a hard time because the way you structure your points is so hostile and vague.
>I don't like them I don't blame the show for it
but you brought it up in the same post that you claimed Angel's Egg is better at the same stuff, can't you see how that could be interpreted as you having a problem with the show? If you dislike the characters but not the show that's understandable but then what you wrote later
>Why the fuck would I sit myself through tons of shit if I find the characters annoying? Why would I punish myself?
makes it sound like you really do have a problem of some kind and you really do dislike fiction if you dislike the characters.
I think what might help clarify this is if you go back to Angel's Egg. What exactly does Angel's Egg do better than Evangelion. And I really mean 'exactly' not 'judeo-christian imagery and life-cycles.' I wrote a paragraph on that that didn't get addressed. I'd like to see what you think about elements of Evangelion that aren't the main cast to help clarify this.

I think Ghibli movies are boring and Eva wasn't that good.
Look man, in all honesty I'm probably just biased because I simply don't like EVA, and it wouldn't be fair to compare 26 episodes and a film to the 70 minutes of animation in Angel's Egg. I'm gladly willing to accept that the Judeo-Christian imagery in EVA is just windowdressing and it's about social isolation and reluctance to be a hero and growing up and taking responsibility and repressed Japanese sexuality. Fine? I don't like EVA because of Shinji and Asuka, if you and everyone else like it I'm fine with it and I'm not gonna sperg about its faults because they mostly stem from personal hickups of mine and not the quality of the thing itself.
Jin Roh is pretty good
The Girl who leapt through time would be great if it didn't shit the bed at the very end
Journey to Argatha is good
The Disappereance of Haruhi Suzumiya is shockingly good

Animation quality will never be surpassed
>Ghost in the Shell is still the epitome of anime kino
I like the sequel more. This particular scene is my favourite sequence in just about all of Oshii's work. Not only is the animation technically great but it's such a good looking and stylish scene that also tells us more about Batou than any amount of dialogue could.
That's disappointing but okay.
