such terrible art direction

>Have this story hyped at me for years.
>See that they are doing an animated film of it
>Think to myself 'It's about time I read the comic'
>Buy it, go sit in a park all excited about the amazing story I am about to read
>Took me 30 minutes to read the whole thing, it's a decent story at best that has no really stand out moments. It just seems like another Batman v Joker story.

Did I get rused or did the hype just kill it for me?

>It just seems like another Batman v Joker story

Seinfeld effect. The Killing Joke defined the modern relationship between Batman and Joker so reading it after you've seen/read what it influenced it seems overrated.

I guess the bit where Joker beats up Robin didn't phase you.

Anyway, I thought they basically already animated this story with Under the Red Hood.

Ah ok fair enough. I wasn't overly dissapointed with it and I am still excited to see the film but I suppose hype really did effect it for me.

I do have to agree with The animation in the trailers looks terrible.

Are you confusing The Killing Joke and A Death in the Family?

>40 years pass
>art got low detailed crap
why is this happening? selling the same shit but in worse quality.

Probably.

You're thinking of Death in the Family.

>edgy cartoons that rape source material from the 80s with shitty sweatshop animation to satisy manbabys with $20 of Taco Bell in front of them

fucking pathetic

Should have outsourced to Madhouse studios.

you're evil

the original art was dogshit retard

>Brian Bolland art doesnt look like my favorite moe anime

fuck off till you get some taste

Sadly SJW's decided that this cover is too triggering for Batgirl comics.

I came into this thread specifically because OP's pic was more interesting than everyone else's. The art must be doing something right.

same for me

but I the very last joke still stikes out for me

I already heard complaints from some sites about it

me

Nice meme. Animation looks fine.

it looks like shit. looks like a flash animation

youtube.com/watch?v=VeNi4PfNMqI

I'm watching it this monday with my gf

bought the tickets before I knew the animation was shit, but I really loved the comic

The animation looks horrible

How do you like this?

youtube.com/watch?v=1_r-qsxGiKY

should of hired this guy, looks a lot more inspired.

Batman's running is particularly bad.

The graphic novel doesn't even look like that anymore.

don't remind me

>should of
Retard.

Am I the only one getting Brazilian naked chicks in these two videos recommendations?

What happened?

it's recommending based on your search history

I associate Mark Hamill's Joker voice too much with BTAS Joker to enjoy this.

>Should have outsourced to Madhouse studios.
The Iron Man animes were pretty bad.

I don't think so, I don't search for porn on youtube.

that art style is brilliant is there any other stuff out there similar to this style?

Wasn't the animation good?

yeah, it's called COMIC BOOKS

what comics have that color aesthetic?

This. The trailer totally killed my hype.

>buy black and white comic book
>buy crayons
>paint comic book

WOW SO HARD

>expecting literature from a comic book

>has no really stand out moments. It just seems like another Batman v Joker story.
Even Alan Moore said that, that it's only interesting and relevant to batman fans and speaks nothing of the world or life or anything

vocaroo.com/i/s0mFJ12Dyyvg

Redline looks somewhat similar.

...

Nope. Aside from the crappy stories, it's clear Madhouse left all their Marvel animations to the interns. Even their bigger budget productions like Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore overuses a bunch of soft filters and other cheap tricks (like shaky-cam) to cover up for lack of "actual" animation.

It's really sad considering the pedigree behind the studio.

sheeeiiit

>100 hours in photoshop

Which one am I supposed to hate?

Neither really looks that bad.

Hmm, yes that is a problem with current anime, but I am almost certain that this is a budget issue and not related with talent.

I haven't seen any of the stuff you're talking about but there's nothing unusual about using such "tricks" in anime.

The production quality of TV anime has skyrocketed since the 90s.

I'm assuming you're supposed to hate the one in the right, it's probably a modernization with all those vivid colours.

This isn't one of the worst examples, AT ALL.

In fact, this one looks alright.

Current TV anime looks BETTER than the Marvel stuff. That's how bad it is.

>The production quality of TV anime has skyrocketed since the 90s.
Maybe for the moe genre, compare DBZ with DBS, there's a huge difference, What about the new Berserk anime, top quality animation right there?

>Current TV anime looks BETTER than the Marvel stuff
o-okay

No, it has skyrocketed across the board (and the "moe genre" probably didn't even exist in the 90s).

I'm actually worried about the overall quality of the movie since they went out of their way to shoehorn in an "empowering" batgirl story into it to pad the runtime.

This.
The Dark Knight Returns was only passible, and for this one, DC should have gone all out on this one considering the material and seeing that it might be the last time Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill work together. But what you get is something that looks as soulless and full of digital animation shortcust as any Fox Animated show.
Man, but I wish for the glory days of traditional analog animation that only used digital tecnology sparingly to enhance, not to do the work for you. I mean, there was Hanna-Barbera trash back then, but the highs were much higher.

Admittedly I've only seen the Iron Man stuff, but it's obvious that the animation "shortcuts" were abused to an absurd degree there compared to most anime. It's possibly budget issue as said. But then why they keep pumping that shit out when neither the companies (nor fans) seem to care is beyond me.

Pre-digital coloring comics.

I'm going to watch it but THIS

Didn't they lift that from an already existing comic though?

Not that i'm aware of.

You'll be pleased that they included the rape scene then.

I swear I heard or read it somewhere that the padded on storyline is taken from Batgirl: Year One or something. Don't remember where though.

user is a retard who posted a shitty example.

Just look up "Killing Joke old edition vs new" and you'll see just how badly they sterilized the intentionally stylized color scheme in the original.

Do we get to see bat boobies?

this

This was the one thing they had to get right.
The only little bit of input they had.
The story's written and well recieved. The characters are loved. The script's basically already written, and in the hands of the most competent voice actors for the roles.

All they had to do was make sure the animation/art direction was up to par.
And it's horrible. Absolutely fucking abysmal.
How does a fuck-up like that even happen? Was there no oversight? Did nobody care?

I remember "Gods and Monsters" had the Metal-men and Platinum(?) had very obvious nipples sticking out for most of her screen-time. So maybe a Bat-nip slip isn't too out of possibility.

damn youre right

fuck

What's the padded storyline?

DC/WB hasn't given a shit about their animation division in a while, and I bet going R-rated cut their budget into pieces. I love the DC animated movies but this one looks really bad animation wise. I just wish WB would actually support them instead of keeping Snyder's movies on life-support.

Batgirl doing Bargirl things for longer running time.

The original colors make the scene much more disturbing in my opinion.

>intentionally stylized
The original artist campaigned for the recolor because the original coloring WASN'T intended.

The art is waaaayyyyy too bland. Its going to make the story worse. Itll lack all style.

JUST

They give more of a shit than Marvel and their "animation" division, which is non-existent since the 90s.

No. Killing Joke is overrated and the most blatant edgelord Batman story ever.

Yes, they look like a chemical spill, which is appropriate to Joker's origin and how he probably sees the world.

Like what? Batgirl Y1 is a lot of mundane origin stuff like auditioning for Bruce. Also Firefly and Killer Moth stuff.

Who here isn't a Sup Forums autist and is going to enjoy this?

Love not feeling compelled to whine about petty shit all the time.

Agree. Its makes the scene look kinda hellish. Which it was.

Probably the mundane origin stuff like auditioning for Bruce. But I don't know, haven't read it. Just remember hearing that they won't be making that shit up themselves.

Again with this shitty argument.

Bolland didn't even have authority over the colors in the original edition, that happened to be in the colorist John Higgin's field. Bolland just one day decided to be a presumptuous retard and strip his work away despite the fact that it was one of the aspects that made the comic so unique.

It was intentional by the colorist.

And then then when they had Harley fucking Deadshot and Killer Frost naked in Batman: Assault On Arkham, they didn't deliver.

So i will remain dubious.

>the animation being blatantly sub-TV level
>petty shit

If you didn't state otherwise I'd actually assume you were a typical Sup Forums shit sucker.

I'm not being nitpicky, it wasn't something I was initially looking out for, and it looks fucking awful.

this

The animation looks awful. Thats kinda important to a cartoon

Any artist that is left to do his own thing with no peer review will not be as good as he can be. The original colouring better illustrates the whole "going mad" thing.

He was just following a trend DC put on in order to try and get the more hardcore collectors to also buy re-releases, something Marvel has flirted with as well, though he went full retard by defending that in the book, mistakenly thinking that the illustrator is always the best judge for these things (he certainly isn't, the recolor even features less nuanced shading). Shit sucks, I didn't get the chance to buy the original release and this travesty was the only one in stock at my local comics shop.

what kind of edgy shit happens in this to get the r rating?

Wow right look like shit compared to left

Batgirl gets shot and paralyzed.
Her dad gets basically tortured to drive him insane.

It's pretty mild overall.

she's really creeping me out

looks fine to me
