We Americans can't pay attention for more than a minute or so if the program doesn't have explosions and loud, crazy sound effects, so when we do nature shows they look like they're made for children because they basically are. We can't just watch a spider jump on a cricket. We need to have a cheesy scream sound effect put in with instrumental 80's style rock in the background. Puns are also necessary so we have something to possible laugh at. This is why I loved the walking with dinosaurs documentary back in 99. It was just CG footage of dinosaurs with a British guy explaining what was happening with orchestral music.
