How come there's almost no steampunk Sup Forums?

How come there's almost no steampunk Sup Forums?

That's it? I feel like there's a lot of potential for beautiful visuals here.

expensive to cgi and shit

because whenever you google steampunk for visual reference you get endless pictures of fat autists in top hats with brass glued to them.

It's hard to maintain interest after that.

and I like steampunk

Small niche audience, very expensive production

Because steampunk fans are corny as fuck. Look at that overdesigned fuckin outfit that girl has, gimme a goddamn break.

>that cleavage
G-gollee jeepers!

Nobody has the time to manufacture all those useless fucking gears.

Because steampunk is fucking gay, bro.

You forgot Sky Captain. Also, check out K-20 and Casshern.

Surely some big name director must like it?

wasn't Wild Wild West steampunk? there's your answer. plus it's the baroque offspring of a niche genre. not many people dig it. there's potential in it, for sure, but until an auteur makes a fantastic steampunk film, there's no hope of it ever getting off the ground.

i don't think Sky Captain was really steampunk. more like retrofuturism.

The pretty kind-of-fantasy steampunk could look really nice

>implying gay is bad
>implying gay has only one side
>implying everone don't likes gay if they are lesbians

steampunk is gay

Is that Sarkesian?

>what is Sherlock Holmes

Normies would get confused. They already are by anything that isn't generic Disney.

Cyber>steam
That's why

Cyberpunk as fantasy world is dead. We live in the one and it stinks.

Have there even been any good cyberpunk movies recently?

Steampunk movies by Karel Zeman based on Vernes novels are patrician choice.

dieselpunk is a word you are looking for

I'm sure there are more steam punk movies out there than just those.

I think I need to blow off some steam with that cleavage

I know there are but it's either just minor or they suck.

Steampunk is fucking shit. Just thinking about it angers me, putting cogs on hat and clothes, I mean just look at your fucking image. It's retarded.

Steampunk fans are some of the most awkward and poorly-adjusted individuals I've ever had the displeasure of meeting, even more so than Bronies. I have no idea what that particular fandom draws so many losers.

...

>this fucking shit outfit

every time without fail

>implying it isn't
>implying it isn't
>assuming

Ghost in the shell is coming out soon. That movie is probably going to be cyber punk.

>That movie is probably going to be cyber punk.
Hollywood can't be trusted.

Gaze upon all these movies that are called steam punk: steampunk.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_steampunk_films

Casshern is Steampunk?

>assuming
It is scientific fact. Neither men nor women can hold their erections when they see girls kissing.

I was thinking more like a steampunk city like in the way the flying city in Bioshock Infinite was, that would be really cool.

Instead of gears everywhere. Yeah that's stupid.

steampunk is shit
not even animation can save how shit it is

Bioshit Infinite is more like a sort of vintage-punk

There really isn't all that much steampunk about it aside from the songbird

Difference Engine movie or miniseries could be cool.

This is the only good thing to come out of steampunk kino wise -
youtube.com/watch?v=vORsKyopHyM
And it annoys me that there was never a followup.

When I'll be a director I'll make a good and aesthetically pleasing steampunk film. You just have to wait couple years.

That looks beyond stupid. What is it even supposed to do or be for? Why would you have a gear print on your corset?

Casshern isn't steampunk

Biopunk > Steampunk

Steampunk is fine as a setting, but there's no reason to go full retard steampunk on your clothes.
Just wear fucking clothes.

Where's my whalepunk kino?

because it doesn't make sense

the steam age was Victorian as fuck, why would they act punk?

I don't understand this picture.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anachronism

The thing in the center is a living thing that flies. People captured them and now use them as a source of energy/transportation/etc.

AHHH

I hate that 99% of all steampunk fags forget the number one rule of steampunk; Function over form. I should be able to point to any part of your outfit and ask "What is that, what does it do, and why does your character need that?"

If you can't answer this you fucked up.

You forgot Snow Piercer.

I see now. I thought it was a tree or some sort and i couldn't figure out why they would make a tree float or why it had eyes.

That seems a pretty mean thing to do to a giant flying thing.

>Cogs everywhere that do nothing
This is like some kid who "totally blazes it" while holding a maple leaf; except its people in their 30s. Atleast pretend its functional.

I saw it too

>Futuristic super train
>Modern assault weapons
>Chemical warfare

Yeah, real steampunk.

It is, but that's the idea behind biopunk. That living things are no different from any other resource and are there to be used as we need.

You forgot the best one

most severely anachronistic movies are shit.

Best example: Treasure Planet

>best

no it was shit

great explanation for how this trainwreck got made
youtube.com/watch?v=Wo2KB1dEDdk

As if it is more CGI than capeshit.

Not really.

Is this steampunk? I'm on the fence.

No, dystopian is all.

The TV show is far better.

Hell no, that's a gasoline powered motorcycle from the 70's

Steam punk means steam powered, things modeled after 1800's and earlier tech

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Golden Compass
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec
Terry Pratchett's Going Postal

Is this steampunk?

I'd say enough so.

Why do all of these names have the same format? What's the origin of it?

It comes from the era they are portrayed in.

...

Uh, dog, that's saying dudes kissin is the least attractive dynamic and chicks kissin is the most attractive dynamic

Everybody heard Kevin Smith's shitty story a decade ago. What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

That I know, I was just curious if it was a single popular title that started it or what.

I think it started with the pulp fiction stuff and went from there. Whatever those science fiction pulp magazines had as stories, look those up until you find the first ones.

Sorry for the ants version.

>tfw the steam man in this image is actually REAL

cyberneticzoo.com/steammen/1867-steam-man-dederick-america/

Yes really

There's tons of movies over the decades and lots of people like it. It isn't as expensive as any other sci-fi movie genre or capeshit. It just isn't "IN" as a propaganda vehicle right now.

because for the most part it's just style and little substance

Find me some truly interesting steam punk concepts that aren't just foiling retro/victorian tech and design queues in a modern setting and you have some hope.
As it is, you're lucky to see it as a bit of atmosphere like in cheesy vampire flicks.

>victorian high tech stuff with brass clockwork all over the place
People either love or hate the aesthetic, it's hard to sell something that so many people hate the look of.

Literally the same thing can be said about any genre at all.

Everything boils down to the story and all the stories are nearly identical.

The only recent attempt at a steampunk movie I can think of was that Three Musketeers movie with the airships and stuff, and it was terrible. Ultimately it's a niche genre without any defining works and normies have no real grasp of it so even if you went all in and made a great steampunk movie it's impossible to tell if audiences would like it or not.

It is all about advertising really.

Reminds me of the Key and Peele sketch about "steampunk fashion"

Havin' a good giggle here.

Sky Captain is Dieselpunk not Steampunk

what about that will smith move?

No, the design isn't victorian, it's mostly 1920 oriented so is steelpunk, learn the fucking difference

cyberpunk = victorian
steelpunk = early 1900 with a lot of german miltary influence

People get confused about city of ember because it has a certain Art Deco touch, but Art Deco is from the 1920 france if I remember correctly.

now that I think about it, it isn't dieselpunk and it has more victorian influence, I was wrong. I barely remembered the movie anyways. Now I remember the core was all steamy hah

kys you autistic cuck

why?

by the way OP, Stargate SG1 has some goat Dieselpunk episodes

is mad max fury road dustpunk?

Because it's stupid.

everyone knows this shit, its irrelevant
