The Nice Guys

I missed this and just about every thread about it when it first came out. Just got around to watching it earlier today. Gosling was surprisingly funny, and the rest was overall hilarious. Might be one of my favorite comedies of all time desu.

What did Sup Forums think of it?

reddit loved it

I liked it

it was trying too hard in some parts

While I do like cute children, the more they open their mouths, the worse the film becomes.

When the daughter was put in a cab back home, that should have been the last we saw of her.

Instead she was always tagging along, completely ruining the flow of the main characters.

The funniest bits were parts that couldn't have had children in them to succeed.

I'm the sorta guy that never actually laughs out loud during comedies but I did with this when Gosling is looking for Russell's ankle gun.

Overall pretty decent and fun, I wish Hollywood made more fun movies like this instead of capeshit.

what did I think of it?

Is it available to rent yet? I've been wanting to see it.

"Janet your sister is such a whore!"

"I know"

It was pretty fucking good. The scene with the protesters was GOAT

I like the girl desu. At least she was not retarded

It was pretty bad, biggest let down of the year in fact.

>Is it available to rent yet?

>it's literally the year of our Lord, 2016
>unironically, UNIRONICALLY wanting to rent a movie

What is wrong with you?
Do you not know what torrenting is?

gosling hammed it up bad in parts like finding the dead body, but overall it was good. kkbb was better

Only good movie in 2016

A fun take on a genre that Hollywood doesn't produce anymore, it's just a shame that it came out to basically no fanfare and if I'm not mistaken just barely made it's budget back
Gosling and Russell have good chemistry, there's a good mix of physical humor and banter, the plot never gets in the way of the comedy, and while the kid could be a little grating for the most part she was fine. It's a great, mid budget movie that isn't a sequel, remake or adaptation of an existing property an industry where that's becoming exceedingly rare, and that's worth acknowledgment

I agree

When a good movie comes out, I like to pay for it. I wish they made more movies like this, so I vote with money.

I have a well-paying job because I'm not a useless fucking manchild, so the cost of an Amazon rental isn't something I'm desperate to avoid.

>You know who else was following orders? Hitler.

Hoped all bad guys would be defeated by sheer luck, like the blueman and black chick. Such a feel good flick.

You don't know if it's good or not.
You're literally willing to throw your money at 50/50 odds of maybe liking something.

Not to mention the fact that it's way, way faster and more convenient to torrent.

Pretty much this

it was ok would have been better as a serious crime movie with some dark humor but they probably didnt have the budget. so it relied more on jokes

This. I only torrent films I can't acquire via other means.

>(((You)))

>You're literally willing to throw your money at 50/50 odds of maybe liking something.

We're talking about $4.99 here, user

The convenience isn't the issue, it's the principle. It costs money to make a movie, and if it doesn't make money back, they don't fund more movies like this. If EVERYONE says "it's fine, I'll just torrent it" then you end up with an industry where they only fund comic book movies for the Chinese market

I am so glad they didnt ruin the ankle-gun moment in the trailer. It was one of the most hilarious moments in the film and could have EASILY been used in a teaser.

Movies that are good are worth seeing in the cinema.

If you merely want to rent something, then you clearly don't actually care about the movie one way or another.

Who gives a shit about your $5?

Just admit you're too much of a retard to torrent.

Reddit has a subreddit for pretty much anything right?
therefore reddit likes everything

It was pretty good, I felt like they used the kid a little bit too much, though. She made some scenes that should have been funny just sort of uncomfortable.

>That scene at the end where Gosling shouts German-sounding gibberish at the DoJ lady

I HAD TO QUESTION THE MERMAIDS

Is this bait?

Just got done watching it. Hot damn, what a good movie. Just weird and different and cool in a way I've been missing. Definitely gonna seek out KKBB now. Shame it didn't do well in theaters but that's my fucking fault for not seeing it.

Watched it with 0 expectations

Thought it turned out pretty good. Not enough to rave about it to others, but it's worth a rewatch a year or two down the line

>Who gives a shit about your $5?

You do considering how pissed you're getting.

>haha umad xD

Literal child.

calling out someone's asshattery is not getting pissed

One of the best comedies I have ever seen

>Literally the most underrated movie this year so far

I had a lot of fun watching it user

>when Nixon shows up

You thought it was the best comedy you've seen in years.

It's a feel good movie, I enjoyed watching it.

sequel when?

So am I the only one who really disliked it?

This. Really felt like a throwback to a different time.
New New Hollywood when?

What have you liked so far this year

>14 year old boy talking about showing his cock and asking adults if they wanted to see it
>13 year old girl taken to a degenerate L.A. party where she hangs out with porn stars and is show porn
>muh stronk womyn from the Justice department and her stronk womyn nigger sidekick

This film was hot garbage, and I turned it off as soon as Kim Bassinger showed up as the "stronk womyn / worried mother".

Utter trash.

Alright

My favourite so far has been Everybody Wants Some!!

She carried that movie imo

>when they throw the body over the fence

yea idk about that but the acting was definitely sub par. i couldn't really believe any of it, especially compared to actually good cop movies.

You're either a pedophile with a giant crush on her or a retard who unironically enjoys child "acting".

I was with my mate in the cinema when this was out, it was one of the best things about this year. Good cop movie, and a fantastic comedy. The whole audience was dying of laughter, when I've seen it.

Any pics of Angourie's feet?

Just finished watching it, and quite enjoyed it.

But her acting was fine.

the black afro secretary chick was hot as fuck.

Not extremely memorable, but it was a fun time in the theatre.

...

>goose chasing mermaids in the swimming pool
good laughs pham

Child acting is always child acting.

It's very clear to anyone who isn't either a retard or a horny degenerate, that she's a child who's been told to play at pretend.

Every minute she was talking was a minute less of the main characters creating a good and immersive movie.
While it can make sense to have kids in your movie in moderation, anything more than that simply dumbs your movie down.

She was okay in the movie, what was your problem with her acting/character?

7/10, the only big movie I enjoyed this year

This. I loved how Goose was drooling all over her even when she was threatening to kill him.

She wasn't even that bad. She was passable, lol.

Meant for

This year was such garbage I've gone back to reading books.

As I said, you're either a pedophile or a retard.

Keith David's death was 10/10

drunk goose was the best part of the movie

I think it was pretty unfunny desu desu desu.

She was well written aside from her acting

I'm not a pedophile. I didn't love her or anything, but her performance was passable.

that's a shane black trademark. he has ppl falling in Lethal Weapon 1 and 2(into the pool), maybe the rest of the LW's but haven't rewatched.

it makes sense because March would have grown up watching Three Stooges

How did he die? I do not remember.

She was not well written.
She was a simple generic strong independent female child who don't need no daddy to look out for her.

He and Goose are fighting up on a balcony, and they end up taking a tumble over the edge together. Goose lands in the pool, and David goes splat on the concrete.

Oh right, that was funny.

Out of all the great Gos moments in the movie this was my favorite bit too.

>we never got to see her part in the "art film"
I'm mad

maybe cause he's an irresponsible drunk?

you just sound like someone who hates when women are depicted as independent onscreen.

Loved the shit out of it

GUESS I GOT

WHAT I DESERVED

John Boy was awesome

This was hillarious.

Ryan had some great scenes

I liked the build up but in the end it got too wacky. Laughed my ass off when Gosling cut his arm on the window, so fucking idiotic.

it was bad, but pretty enjoyable

She's not a woman, she's a child.

People are dying left and right, and you unironically believe that her father would just let her meander along with him?

Come on, now.

...

Nah. The Daughter added a fun dynamic.

>tfw movie was released at a really bad time so got poor box office
>tfw no sequel

Why the fuck did they release it during Civil War?

I think you've completely overlooked one vital fact:

it's a comedy.

I love how this scened happened after Goose declared that he can't die

Because patricians don't watch capeshit

If the guy wants to support something then what's the big deal? It's convenience and timing. It'd be the same as having an issue with someone ever not seeing a movie during matinee/early bird.

If the dude just wants to spend 5 bucks to rent something and support something then it's not a big deal.
Maybe it's lazy but on the rare occasion I do rent it's nice to just sit on the couch, turn on the tv and just start a movie.

If I like the movie I won't mind having paid 5 bucks on top of what I pay to own it.
