China is the real deterrent to a US invasion of NK. If NK and China truly have a falling out, there isn't much of a reason the US SHOULDN'T go in.

Kim's nuclear capabilities and his threat to shell Seoul to the ground with an artillary barrage are wildly exaggerated. If China and the US feel like they can't get Kim to cooperate, the best course of action is then to strike first as that minimizes potential casualties, and Kim might try and initiate the attack if he feels cornered.

China has always wanted to install an obedient puppet state in Pyongyang but the Norks are too nationalistic for that.

NK has almost certainly deployed hundreds, if not thousands of artillery pieces reserved to target Seoul for a long time now. They are well hidden and they can do critical damage well before the US can disable all of them.
