>ultra corrupt authorities >hypercapitalist society >sprawling, yet gritty and crumbling cityscape >syncretic relationship between cynic capitalism and religious fanatism >general disregard for human life
I'm sorry but I'm not really aware of the current situation in Lagos.
Brody Phillips
It's pure city planning guro.
Oliver Watson
Add some neon and yes
Blake Flores
Kinda missing the cyber aspect, so maybe more of a dystopia movie setting
William Ward
At least half of that should be nuked. Especially the mosque.
And I'm not even a stormfag. I just know all those churches, temples, mosques, and derelict buildings make Nigeria worse, not better.
Ian Phillips
Hmm weird how this came to mind before pacific rim cities.
Seems cozy minus the collapsing buildings.
Austin Stewart
it just looks like India, Mumbai could be cyberpunk too if it wasn't so shit looking.
Nolan Watson
Needs more pollution
Christian Brooks
Cyberpunk means: High Tech, Low Life.
Where is the high tech here?
Owen Perry
>Nigeria >hypercapitalist Why do you spread lies?
Austin Price
Everywhere? Even the shittiest countries today are high tech by 80's-90's standards.
It trickles down from the more developed countries, obviously.
Colton Hughes
It means you can buy whatever you want, if you have the money - land, drugs, organs, slaves, sex, etc. "Regulations" are just words on paper that don't mean anything in real life.
"Law enforcement" is for sale, along with "government officials" - ultracapitalism.
Angel Russell
wow the place in your pic.. imagine the stench
Ayden Cook
But the whole point of cyberpunk is the negation to the question whether technology either migitates (or reinforces) humanity's problems.
For example, instead of technology giving people more freedom it resulted in dependency. Instead of getting clean energy we got more pollution. Instead of creating an inclusive and equal society, the elite used technology to strengthen their status. Instead of better participation we got multinationals abusing the technological dependancy of the state (for surveillance, defense and security) to influence politics and shut out democratic representation.
Where is this central aspect reflected here?
Zachary Jones
>At least half of that should be nuked Pretty sure that's the reason it looks the way it does.
Brody Edwards
Wow fuck, now I want to go there. Got any more pics?
Adam Johnson
looks like shit lol
Daniel Mitchell
Remember that the average daily high temperature in Lagos is 30.8C... and the average LOW is 23.
James Perry
Sounds like Australia during the summer. Fuck that.
Landon Howard
Looks like my country in less than 10 years
Easton Thomas
Most photos of downtown Lagos have an "africa stronk" bias, which means that they only cherrypick clean and nice places.
These rustic and gritty pics are pretty hard to find.
Isaac Gonzalez
Even though this scene is about as low-tech as it gets, it still has a vertical complexity (balconies full of people, signs, clothlines) which you see pretty often in dystopian cyberpunk settings.
Jason Nguyen
Υeah, what a bummer. Here, found some myself, open wide:

If you want dytopian cyberpunk look no further than Mumbai or Tokyo. In these cities people live in 6x6 tiny "apartments". Extremely poor people living right next to ultra rich who deal with millions or even billions of $. Kinda fucked up.

Xavier Bailey
Yeah that does look pretty Mirror's Edge before filters applied tier

Mumbai looks cool.
Tokyo won't do. The standard of living is too high, and crime is too low.
Zachary Morales
Faggot photographers ruin pictures with the filters.
Kevin Nelson
please to be buildings skyscraper is the needful for prosperous developing
this cargo cult mentality third world countries have is ridiculous
Zachary Myers
Mumbai is shit tier city desu. Any city where it takes you 2 hours to get to work by metro is a shit city.
Easton Scott
To be honest I think the most cyberpunk place on Earth has to be somewhere in Asia. Aside from the obvious Chinese megapolises like Shanghai or Shenzhen, there's also shit like Kuala Lumpur, Karachi, Bangkok etc.
Another suggestion: São Paulo.
Camden Cruz
You know that Hong Kong/Kowloon Walled City was literally the model cyberpunk city, right?
Hunter Rivera
>was
Also don't conflate these two. Hong Kong is way too safe and scum-free
Noah Campbell
Skyscrappers are built because there is no land in Mumbai. Also skyscrappers are mostly restricted by government, and these buildings are not ultra tall.
Adrian Carter
What about Moscow ?
Charles Phillips
It's missing the cyber aspect. Would make a decent scenery for the next Fallout game though.
Jonathan Young
>churche's Jesus and His Church was the only leg up on anyone your civilization ever had. When you stopped going to church because you got distracted by money and one up(down)smanship as as a replacement for morality your society became worthless overnight. People like you destroyed the West.
Noah Morgan
Yeah, it's pretty cyberpunk, but can't hold a candle to São Paulo.
Regards, never been to São Paulo and haven't been to Moscow in like 4 years.
Jayden Torres
must feel like home
Christopher Jenkins
Yeah, but Moscow has the whole hacker and cyberwar thing going on, right?
Colton Bennett
Kuala Lumpur is pretty low since its inhabitants is only 1.5million and full of small buildings outside the concentrated office areas. You can ride the train with plenty of space compared to Tokyo which is like a sardine can. Even Singapore alone has about 3x its population and cities like Jakarta or Bangkok goes up to 10million.
Oliver Hernandez
>Is Lagos the ultimate cyberpunk city, Sup Forums? nah
William Martinez
What is the English proficiency like?
Joshua Jones
woah dude, nice photo. which city is closest to cyberpunk ?
Jordan Bell
>which city is closest to cyberpunk ? mogadishu :^)
Gavin Hall
this, our capital actually got an award for being one of the worst city in the world. living in jakarta is like living this anime IRL, true dystopian experience.
Brandon Martinez
>ctrl+F >no Chongqing
Carter Cooper
Not too far off actually. In the absence of a state authority they developed a pretty modern telecommunications sector. It's pretty ridiculous actually. >Somalia now offers some of the most technologically advanced and competitively priced telecommunications and internet services in the world
Tokyo has a cyberpunk aesthetic, though not a hellhole dystopia esque one
Christopher Wood
In my opinion, Dubai and all of the UAE is pretty cyberpunk, too. A rich, authoritarian and explotative state.
Immigrant workers in slave-like conditions contructing the most modern and cutting edge skyscrapers in the world. That's the epitome of high tech low life.
Jaxon Carter
>Funded by Somali entrepreneurs and backed by expertise from China, Korea and Europe, ah yes
Oliver Bailey
Read my post. It actually is a good candidate.
Wyatt Harris
Its high due to high presence of foreigners, you can go shopping at Suria KLCC at the twin towers and its overrun by whites/koreans/japanese. But for daily conversation KL folks use an unholy abomination called Manglish which is english corrupted by tamil, malay and cantonese terms, grammar and structure.
Evan Gray
Looks like shit, lah.
Jordan Scott
Tokyo is more like postcyberpunk now but it used to be more cyberpunk back in the 1980s and actually inspired some of the early cyberpunk novel. The high tech decadence of the '80s disappeared with the Lost Decade and the city has gotten cleaner and more sterile since. Kawaii is a whole 'nother nightmare.
Justin James
chung-king is a shithole. was there for 2 days and it felt like 2 weeks. nuke it from space.

At least it has plenty of stuff to do and places to explore, living in a 150k town surrounded by ricefields in 35-50Km radius is boring as hell. Excellent manglish, with practice you can perfect it.
Christopher Carter
cont. Chongqing already looks like got nuked before imo
Lincoln Flores
this isn't cyberpunk this just look like shit
Alexander Roberts
>tram line through building
That's cyberpunk.
Charles Rodriguez
Yes, extremely high-tech. Bet you can find lots of world-class programmers and hackers there and rapid technological development. Honestly just kill yourself.
Jacob Gonzalez
The row of buildings in the foreground are asian brand modernism, very similar to the architecture in cyberpunk settings.
They are very similar to early postwar neighbourhoods in Japan, but poorer and dirtier.
Nathan Harris
a terrible place to live desu

...it's like how Eastern culture would be without Confucius or Buddah...in other words: China
Isaac Sanders
Fear of heights? It definitely is not a beach, if you catch my drift.
Hudson Scott
It's entirely thanks to Confucianism that China is in the state it currently is.
Confucianism is a pure slave ideology, which legitimises oppression (e.g. the state oppression in China) and class divides (see: China and Japan).
Everything that's wrong with east Asia, as well as the Asian mentality, started with Confucius.
Tyler Allen
Ragnar i am impress
t. philosophy major dropout
Jordan Wilson
The Chicoms did their best to exterminate Confucianism. China is the way it is because of Marxism. Marx wasn't a Confucian. He was a Marxist, which is just a Pharisee minus belief in God. If Confucius was responsible for China than all of Asia would be China. If the Chinese had held to the old ways I doubt they would have been cutting their parents to death in the town square.
Adam Sanders
China is about as communist as Trump is.
Nathan Rodriguez
>a Marxist is just a Pharisee without belief in God
You are DEFINITELY not a real Japanese person mate. Only a white Stormfag would say something like this
Adam Ward
Indeed. Communism has never been tried. The Sino-Soviet split demonstrated that China is a counter revolutionary state and thus Maoism is not true Socialism. This isn't Cold War Russian propaganda being regurgitated my useful idiots.
Cooper Watson
How racist!
Thomas Hernandez
>China, the communist state known for its one-party political system; aggressive promotion of its national interests in foreign policy and efforts to homogenize as much of the country as possibly by assimilating non-Han Chinese cultures; and a for its powerhouse economy with such famous symbols associated with it as the Shanghai Stock Exchange, HQs of several megacorporations and main factories of many Western companies taking advantage of cheap Chinese labor
Caleb Mitchell
Not really. Moscow is wanna be europen city
Hunter Mitchell
Yes. Communism doesn't exist. It's a fantasy dreamed up by a sociopath. Expecting it to present a consistent moral standard of policy only demonstrates your naïveté. Material Dialecticism holds that literally any action can be taken to advance the Communist movement. If you blew up a factory full of proletarians it doesn't mean you aren't a genuine Communist...if your Party ordered you to do it to build public sympathy for the working class. "History will exhonerate me." The Dialectic will synthesize all things unto itself. Expecting Communists to behave in anything but a hypocritical, counterintuitive way only demonstrates that you don't understand what Communism even is. Selling a few trinkets to useful idiots to raise money for the Party's tax coffers isn't Communism? Fuck out of here.
Samuel Jenkins
Why are you a paranoid schizo who posts from a proxy? You do not matter. No one cares about you. So why are you posting from a proxy?
