Is there a word for that feel when you hear a melody that's too similar to another one?
It's sometimes distracting and can kind of ruin the music - might be because the brain is trying to follow along or autocomplete for the other melody. I think it also comes up sometimes when you're trying to remember how a certain piece goes but all you can think of is another one that starts off in a similar way.
Possible. How do you tend to react when you hear two similar songs?

Rockism Why can't rock musicians just play the songs they like that other people wrote instead of writing their own that uses the same chord and basic melody but changes a note therefore is their own original content don't steal?

It's called not being able to distinguish 551Hz from 552 Hz. You really need to start listening to FLAC versions of your songs.
