So what kind of music do you listen to?
Other urls found in this thread:
>rock, mostly
Heavy metal, thrash metal, glam metal, hard rock, and soft rock.
>Grunge
>Emo
>Noisier stuff
pretty easy
>tfw Ive gone from listening to Bjork and The Beach Boys to listening to The Beatles and Tool
My music taste has gotten worse
>i don't
"Oh, I don't really listen to music that much."
swans
No I'd said it's gotten significantly better because you don't listen to poser music.
Nu-progressive psychedelic post-pirate metal. Only the good stuff though.
I list some stuff like the beatles or acdc, wait for them to say who they are into, and then say I am also a big fan of whoever they said they liked.
I've found that the problem with normies is that they're always operating on such a small idea of music, that it's hard to gage what they think of different genres. They may be into punk, or they may find it really immature. They may think jazz is sophisticated and cool, or they may think it's boring "old people" music. So I usually describe the kinds of bands I like in really vague terms, and let them come up with a label for me. It seems like they usually decide I like "indie," which is a little funny since lately I've been really obsessive with crust punk bands like Martyrdöd, Amebix, Fall of Efrafa, Tragedy, Sarabante, Ictus, Convince, etc. But for that kind of stuff, indie is probably the best description for normies, since "punk" means rebellious 16 year olds who listen to Rancid, and metal means Korn.
>fall of efrafa
If the bands name is a reference to a book in which rabbits brutally murder each other you know its a good band
I listen to progressive rock like Yes and Gentle Giant
>Mid-90s Dream Pop, Canadian folk-comedy and Russian instrumental electronic post-rock
It's not technically wrong, and it's a great way to shut people up.
>canadian folk-comedy
I like the arrogant worms too
Is that a real thing? Can you link some? That sounds awesome. Fuck I hope that's a real thing.
what a strong person you are
Also Moxy Früvous, depending on the album
I was joking, but pirate metal is real. Look up Alestorm.
>I was joking, but pirate metal is real
desu if it's not psychedelic pirate metal it's probably not for me
If you can look into your heart and tell me that a band from Perth has released five pirate-metal albums without the use of LSD then i guess you can say alestorm isn't psychedelic pirate metal
>Post-Rock, Emo, Screamo/Skramz, Post-Hardcore, Shoegaze, Folk, Instrumentals, etc
What I tell normies
>Just a lot of instrumental stuff, rock, folk
What is crust punk
i-i have a g-girlfriend
this
I just say I'm into indie music. If they ask who I say Pavement and Built to Spill.
Then you ask them what they're into, and if they list good artists you can talk about them and if they say normie-core stuff just say that you heard good things about so and so's last album and change the subject.

it's basically anarcho-punk + hardcore punk + post-punk + extreme metal. It basically has the dark atmosphere of post-punk, the scratchy lo-fi sound of anarcho-punk, the speed and aggression of hardcore, and the size and heaviness of extreme metal. It laid the foundation for grindcore. The modern versions of it also throw in black metal influences. A lot of it sounds like a more immediate and melodic version of death metal, though sometimes with acoustic and atmospheric elements, to create a dark, post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
None of what you just said is real
Do you think they actually care what you answer?
lol what a freak
>Most things except metal, rap, and alt-country
I just tell them I like whatever sounds good to me. Sounds generic but I've gone into depth about my tastes with people using that.
>mostly electronic stuff
>So what kind of music do you listen to, user?
crust-punk. it's basically anarcho-punk + hardcore punk + post-punk + extreme metal.
>I have to pick up my grandma
>post-rock, ambient, experimental, EDM, electronic, emo, indie, post-hardcore, shoegaze, dreampop, pop, (some) rap... my friends call me a hipster but that's just cause I don't listen to generic radio stuff so it's like all stuff they've never heard of
but it's not exactly obscure in any way for anyone that actually has a taste or interest in music
The fact that no one can even try to recommend me anything just shows the sad state that Sup Forums is currently in. If this were a good community well versed in music then I would have a lot of recommendations of music I would want to listen to and is worth my time. Unfortunately there aren't enough people who are knowledgeable about music on Sup Forums. The problem is that within this circle of people who occupy Sup Forums there is a limited knowledge of music outside of what is recommended on rateyourmusic, bandcamp, last fm, and Sup Forums essentials. Some of the people here whom music is actually a hobby for likely take the time to explore all of the resources for discovering music, while others turn to shit sources like p4k and fantano. While I have found some good music in this place, I haven't really found enough gems, pieces of art that are so unique and special that no one knows about that I would be proud to have in my library. It saddens me that this is the current state of Sup Forums but music is my passion and I know of no other boards besides Sup Forums that have enough traffic and quick replies so that I can post here all day and discuss music and post my chart and hope that some day I will get a good recommendations so that I can enjoy my life. All I want is to enjoy my life, and they way I can enjoy my life is if others give me music recommendations.
I genuinely never know how to respond to this question.

you need to back to your Autismland
I don't know who you talk to but most people I've interacted with most likely don't even know what "post-rock" is. Unless you work in a record store or at a venue,I'm pretty certain your average person doesn't know that shit my man.
How is it not real?
If I went into that much detail IRL with a normie stranger, they'd think I was autistic.
this, every time, I just say punk
fuck, you're good
I agree with you and the majority of my friends don't know what that means. I have some (very few) friends that have "advanced" musical tastes i.e. they are actively interested in music like I am
for most of my friends the music I listen to is obscure and "hipster" to them
>my music's not obscure if you have taste
I don't disagree but that might be a little pointy as an opener
yea that comes off a little elitist now that I read it, I didn't necessarily mean it like that but you can get the idea that I mean people that are more interesting in it will dig deeper
u r a gaylord
I usually say Yes and Jethro Tull. Naming more popular names makes it seem less sperg-ish, although Gentle Giant is probably my favorite :)
Not by much user, don't worry
>little bit of everything
>Keiji Haino
>Haino Keiji
who's more patrician?
Everything except rap and country of course
The good kind
Kek where I'm from the normal fag answer is only rap and country. I don't think anyone in my high school listened rock or electro.
