Not so much a rip-off as a reference tbf, but still worth mentioning
I AM DEADLY SERIOUS
>mfw Killing Joke tried to sue Nirvana for stealing their riff that they themselves stole in the first place
And that's how I decided to never listen to Killing Joke, fucking idiots
youtube.com
Difference is Nirvana admitted they did it and were acquaintences of Killing Joke, but as soon as Killing Joke pointed it out they pretended to have never heard of them, whereas Killing Joke have consistently denied having ever heard Life Goes On
the title track on the new record is a tongue-in-cheek rip on Light My Fire too
I think the issue with trying to find plagiarism in music as simple as Nirvana's is that it's incredibly easy for two completely separate artists to stumble upon almost the same riff when a song revolves around a few power chords or whatever. A few others:

And I doubt either were intentional, and I think it highly likely Cobain never heard either
m8 you don't think it's a little interesting half of the posts in this thread are Nirvana songs?
tbf, the Damned weren't above occasionally nicking things either:

Captain Sensible himself says that the writing process of Disco Man was Rat Scabies bringing a Family LP into the studio and playing it at a faster speed
Quorthon plagiarized the lyrics from half of Venom's Black Metal album for Bathory's debut

even the early Simpsons references the fact that Led Zeppelin plagiarized artists.

The interesting thing about this is that despite Womack's being the most obvious lift he couldn't sue as it's part of the arrangement and not copyrightable, or so Rod says.
is sampling suppose to be considered stealing, or just lazy sampling because Madlib basically ripped off and added a drum beat
youtube.com
>will.i.am borrowing from unwound
is he /ourguy/?
What do you think sampling is?
taking a "sample" of someone else's music or creation and making it your own. lazy sampling is taking someone else's creation and just reusing it under your name, its basically stealing

Sid Vicious apparently tried to beat Weller up for nicking it, despite the fact The Jam's was written earlier
For the sake of fairness though, The Jam's was loosely based around a Who song from way earlier (specifically the "In the City" line in the chorus)

I think its likely Kurt knew about Link Wray but he definitely didn't know about the 4-Skins.
here's an example of the Melvins stealing from Nirvana

I don't know why, but taking things from the public domain and not crediting it really bothers me
Not anymore man.
Since I started playing guitar a year ago, I've found more of their riffs randomly strumming then anyone else's. I've been playing Polly this whole time without even knowing.
I used to think they copied and stole, but more likely were just as groovy as the originals

The vocal style is also the same.
Should I start with Led Zeppelin and Oasis or should I avoid them for too obvious?

>SOOOO, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN TELL
No one would ever call this plagiarism but they pretty much just funked the shit out of the heaviest riff in history and the results are 10/10
Can't believe I never noticed this one before
almost sounds like a cover lol
In particular listen to the last 40 seconds outro of Give it Away. They just jam on on Sweet Leaf.
Minor arpeggios up and down always sound similar, this alway makes me laugh though:
Same key too hahahhahahaha
