Sincerity died.

have you listened to this?

They all ended up dead

Artists like these have a tendency to kill themselves

Yep literally all of them. Ronnie Van Zant and Jim Croce were two of the best. Both dead too young.

It has been done before. People want to try making something new to get noticed.

>People want to try something new to get noticed
>The most popular new rock band right now is a band that deliberately tries to sound old
Lol sure thing buddy

Fair point, but revivalism is trying to revive a genre that isn't too relevant at the moment with a modern twist, while there are plenty of sad guys singing with a guitar at any point now.

Bon Iver made it big using the "sad lonely guy with a guitar" schtick.

>while there are plenty of sad guys singing with a guitar at any point now.
name some
i need to hear them

Keaton Henson's decent. He's too autistic to play live so he has this Nick Drake-esque mystery following.

thx lad. im a sucker for that kind of shit
wish more females did it

You and I both, man. If you want a female artist, Julien Baker is right up your alley. She'll tear your heart right up.

That's because Bon Iver is good, and have had a considerably different sound on each album

You're missing the point. Him making it big with his first record shows that people still like the "sad guitar guy" schtick.

Yess

trash. Looked him up and the first song I found was basically a stripped down pop chord progression on piano with maybe 4 chords max. Part of why singer-songwriters are so boring now is they don't fucking use anything but the most basic chords and sound basic themselves. It's why a person like Archy Marshall is so notable. I'd even give Mac DeMarco credit for at least using major 7ths and shit.

You have to be 18 to post here, OP

Too many singers trying to be songwriters, not enough songwriters trying to sing.

>using one of THE BEST songwriters as an average example

kek, he was one in a million

*blocks your path*

This

>using a guy who went unnoticed and died penniless as an example
He's out there you dip we just won't know about him until years after the fact.

What band?

>The most popular new rock band right now is a band that deliberately tries to sound old
This sentence is true for any time between 1957 and now

lolol

Here's a bit of advice: Try listening to more than one song.

Come on, she's not doing anything out of the ordinary. Sad girl, pseudo black soul dive breathy vocals shtick. We've all heard Aretha Franklin and jazz divas. When will female vocalists move away from those influences?

are you genuinely delusional?

I generally can make a good read off of one song, generic trash begets generic trash. Looked up another. More complex GENERIC chord progression with some moving "war drums" at the end, singer singing shyly to camera in front of a body of water, likely the ocean. Real original stuff going on here. He fucking looks like Jimmy Numale.

It's not.

k

The same is true for the female breed of singer-songwriters. Perhaps sincerity has truly died.

I'm bringing it back, don't worry.

David Foster Wallace pls go

>sufjan im christian but gay stevens
So you're gay but you're a bit peeved that you can't come out of the closet because you're Christian or you think all churches are shitholes like the one your parents raised you in?

Dude, there's all kinds of fucking homo churches now, settle down.

At what point in the history if rock has the """most popular""' artist been an innovator? Look at the billboard charts, it isn't an unbroken chain of creative, new ideas

What's even the point you're trying to make?

That you're actually gay and it's fueling your rage.

nice projecting

What rage? I've only asked you to elaborate. I'm an atheist and I'm not a homophobe.

That's a completely different thing. The retro fetishism that Tame Impala and others do, deliberately trying to not only write but mix and master sons so they sound "old". The biggest bands may have gave you a couple of throwbacks but their whole aesthetic and catalogs were not based on being "retro" except for shit like Stray Cats.

k bro

Just have the decency to sage next time you're shitposting.

Garbage ass Nick Drake wasn't sincere.
