i genuinely can't tell brian and carl apart at all though, i didn't know until very recently that it wasn't brian singing on god only knows.

Carl's voice has a smoother and more velvety feel to it, while Brian is a little harsher and has a tendency to belt. They can sound very alike at times in mid-range, although Brian's falsetto is unmistakable.

Also when Peter Gabriel left Genesis his voice seemed to change, and Phil Collins somehow turned into a perfect clone of old Peter Gabriel.
And the singer of Urban Verbs is the brother of Chris Frantz and somehow manages to sound pretty similar to David Byrne.
