The examples of Singapore and Hong Kong show that there is no one economic system that is better than all the others. A state controlled economic system can be just as successful as a market system if the people in charge are highly adept at their jobs and technocratic. This is why countries like China, South Korea and Japan have gotten rich. Not by free market policies but state direction.
I guess being the best in the anus of the world is kind of a consolation prize.

This is why I was interested in this. I was buying in to libertarianism as the best route for successful capitalism until I heard Singapore was very nationalised and had in some ways almost a socialist attitude.
So we shouldn't even be that worried about the concept of privatisation of the railway and such, it could be managed smartly.
