I love Hi-NRGl. I don't listen to funk at all but I checked out Lack Of Afro and really liked him. Might as well explore more.

Our paths briefly cross as just waiting on a cab and off out but The Allergies - Push On just came out and loving it. Worth a listen even with a couple of tracks ruined with rapping.
I think I saw this album in a charity shop some years ago, but I'm not 100 % sure don't hesitate to post more hi nrg, I think I'm not the only one to like it but who's too busy with other stuff to dedicate enough time in looking after new stuff to listen to

this 1984 LP is, as far as I'm concened, Kleeer's crowning achievement and a definitive hallmark of 80s funk nothing to throw away, even the one ballad
Johnny "Guitar" Watson's band, and the funkiest effort from the former bluesman the archetype of the excellent AND cheap as hell album, get it if you see it
I don't know why this one gets slept on this much nowadays while it was pretty successful when it was released, but here it is, the 1975 Wild and peaceful follower with its gorgeous cover art
the one and quite rare 1978 album (because pressed on a tiny label) from this obscure band is very complete and grooveful I'm glad a japanese reissue exists otherwise I would probably never have heard of it
Holy snacks, this is kicking asses with the force of a thousands feet ! that being said, with Bernie Worrell on synths, Billy Bass Nelson on bass, Tiki Fulwood on drums and Eddie Hazel on guitar (why so many Pfunk people, I don't know), it could hardly be any different

goddamn Giorgio and the Munch machine are good, but since the day I heard his Take five cover (yes, the Desmond tune), I always think about it when one of his tunes comes to my ears and it's just not the same
nice to see we're online at the same time (for once !) I went to a Lettuce show in early june, I think we talked about the band in another thread. shit was awesome !
otherwise here's what I gathered from this year, but I didn't listened to more than 15 more releases than this in total because I don't have time to look after labels I don't know. I hope things will get better at work by the end of the year so I can throw out some money on new discoveries still hoping this Malka family album they're talking about since 2015 will finaly be released this year otherwise, waiting for new Haggis horns and Shaolin temple defenders albums in september

yep, still hoping to catch them live one day they were in my country earlier this year but I'm not hardcore enought to drive 8 hours back and forth just for a show (well, I would do it for Off the wall era MJ or others, but Hot 8, as good as they are, do not belong in this category !)
if you're in caribbean stuff, have you heard the Caribbean disco boogie sounds comp ? I think it's from last year or late 2015

Nope, can't say I have, will check it out. Been going through recs from a couple of mates in the Caribbean and then similar from there, lots of dancehall lately.
He said on Twitter it came from th Ukraine and the last time around it was about viagra or something, seems really random, no idea why anyone would have a breaks and funk blog.

More people need to know about Earl Hooker. His take on "Hold on, I'm Coming" is nothing short of inspired.

I know this guy, I bought one of his albums whose title is just "Funk" a long time ago and remember being puzzled when hearing it because it was all blues
but the track you talk about has some kind of raw feeling in it, pretty nice !

Yeah Earl Hooker is some kind of proto-funk guitarist, I'd say he's mostly blues with occasional funk rhythms. Another of his funkier songs from that album is Two Bugs in a Rug
