Neofolk thread

Because the other guy's thread was deleted. This one will be about music, if not derailed by antifa protestors, I guess...

when will people relize that DI6 has nothing really do with the alt right. It's mostly just homoerotic sad love songs. It disappoints me the way people who visit this band's songs often have such aggressive opinions and such hate towards the opinions of others. I find DIJ's lyrics in this album to be consistently vague in a highly poetic way and open to interpretation. Therefore we should not throw our experience of the song on any one else. If DIJ had wanted to make their meaning any more clear, they easily could have.

anyway heres some Andrea Laszlo De Simone, great fucking neo-folk
youtube.com/watch?v=zMluA84uWrE

also this
youtube.com/watch?v=4DaCYXdiYCc

weren't they actually leftists lmao

Great band though shame politics seems to sully their work in the eyes of some irrational people

>weren't they actually leftists
yea lel it is a shame but whatever lets discuss pretty folk music
youtube.com/watch?v=Iaq76W_HpaI&t=54s

Well, it's not "just" sad homoerotic love songs, that's just one level of meaning, but it's certainly too metapolitical to be categorised as left/right. The literary references are kind of a giveaway.

Never heard of De Simone, is that really neofolk? Sounds so very psychedelic and American with its distorted guitars and jazzy drums...
Here's some good shit I got into recently. Fresh blood in the German scene:

i'll admit I started reading mishima because of DI6 years ago, and i'm so happy I did, such fine fucking books

I made a Death In June intro post in the other thread, guess I can post it here so maybe we can make a flowchart or something.

The first two albums most people will have listened to are obviously But What Ends When The Symbols Shatter and Roseclouds Of Holocaust, after that I would recommend to continue as follows:
>Black Whole Of Love
>The Cathedral Of Tears (1993)
>Symbols & Clouds Re-Recordings
>Alarm Agents
>All Pigs Must Die
>The Rule Of Thirds
>The Snow Bunker Tapes
this concludes their purely folk-ish releases.

To shatter your idea of what DI6 sounds like, continue with
>Lesson 1: Misanthropy
>Take Care And Control
>Brown Book
>93 Dead Sunwheels
>Östenbräün
>Peaceful Snow
I've mixed up the chronology a bit to keep things interesting.

Afterwards, just explore on your own. Remember that Dougie's discography is huge and you'll need ~40 releases to have all unique versions of all songs.

youtube.com/watch?v=KWbzGKKKFW8

A very volkisch track

>strasserism
>leftist

I think he was referring to the Crisis years, they were trotskyists in the 70s and very early 80s. They were also Strasserists in the early DI6 years but that influence faded out in the late 80s.

my favorite death in june albums:
rose clouds of holocaust
nada!
the world that summer
brown book
but, what ends when the symbols shatter
peaceful snow

What did everyone think of this?

I can't fucking get into C93, I like Earth Covers Earth and Swastikas For Noddy (and the versions album) but everything past that I can't feel strongly towards. Except for Aleph, I loved that.

bumping with cutest couple

shit was great
try his more industrial work which is more of my favorite by him, but tibet never displeases

youtube.com/watch?v=5dsscWjr1IA

neofolk cuties! such a cute couple

See, this is what platonic love really means - gay mentor and student relationships!

...

...

What do you guys listen to outside of neofolk these days? I knid of got in through punk and can't really listen to anything funk-related anymore. Getting into 70s europop now because that's the closest thing to neofolk I can find.
youtube.com/watch?v=Y_mQ3suDHk0
youtube.com/watch?v=i0aIx-IJI68

AND IT WILL SHAME US NOOOOOOOOOOOW

I have to be in the right kind of mood for that album but when it hits, it hits just right.

industrial mostly and bleeps. or industrial bleeps lel
youtube.com/watch?v=bPvoxu2TG1U

>when will people relize that DI6 has nothing really do with the alt right.

Of course they don't, considering that the alt-right is an Internet subculture which was born very recently and which I'm not even sure Pearce is aware of.

Death In June, on the other hand, are very much a Eurocentric, right-wing band.

>AS I’VE SAID IN A PREVIOUS QUESTION I TRULY FEEL THAT ENGLAND, AND PROBABLY TO A LESSER EXTENT, MAINLAND EUROPA, HAS SEVERE STOCK PROBLEMS. THAT, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE HAS ONLY GOT WORSE. THOSE WHO SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO BREED ARE DOING SO WITH SUCH FREQUENCY THAT THE UK IS BEING OVER POPULATED BY MORONS WITH NOTHING TO DO EXCEPT HARASS THE REST OF THE POPULATION. THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE FOR THEM.

>BRITAIN AS AN INDUSTRIAL POWER IS A THING OF YESTERYEAR. LARGE POOLS OF MANUAL, UNSKILLED LABOURERS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED. HOWEVER, THE OLD HABITS LINGER ON. MONEY IS STILL GIVEN TO THOSE WHO BREED. THE MORE KIDS YOU HAVE THE MORE MONEY YOU GET. THIS IS TOTALLY UNREAL. IN A COUNTRY THAT NOW GAINS ITS INCOME FROM THE ARTS, HIGH TECHNOLOGY AND TOURISM THERE ARE FEW PLACES FOR THOSE CAPABLE OF ONLY PUSHING A BROOM IN FRONT OF THEM.

>BRITAIN IMPORTED MILLIONS OF UNSKILLED LABOURERS FROM THE COLONIES OR THAT KIND OF WORK AND LOOK WHAT A HUGE SUCCESS THAT WAS! THE HATRED IS BARELY RESTRAINED INTO THE OCCASSIONAL RIOT. I DON’T LIKE BEING IN A PLACE WITH SUCH AN ATMOSPHERE. EVEN GERMANY, THE FORMER RICHEST COUNTRY IN WESTERN EUROPA (sic) SEEMS TO BE TANGIBLY FALLING TO BITS. IT IS NO LONGER AS CLEAN AND AS WELL ORGANISED AS I REMEMBER FROM, SAY, 10 YEARS AGO. IT HAS BEEN FLOODED BY THOSE WHO WANT BUT, WITH LITTLE TO GIVE!“

>“As Dutch, British and French explorers literally put this Great Southern Land on the map it would be ridiculous to say that modern day Australia is anything other than a grand – and successful – outpost of
Euro-colonialism and, more specifically Anglo-Celt British colonialism. It’s a fact of life like the Euro-colonization of the Americas etc. If it was an outpost of, let’s say, Iranian or Zimbabwean colonialism would so many people still be so desperately trying to get into Australia by any means necessary, legal or otherwise? It’s doubtful. Thank the Gods for Euro-colonialism!”

>Interview: In interviews you’ve expressed Eurocentrics. How do you feel about fans that are Eurocentric/Racialist?

>Douglas: Depending upon their ‘ version ‘ of Eurocentric Racialism, then 9 times out of 10 I feel very comfortable with it.

These are just the first quotes available to me.
And I've got nothing against Douglas Pearce, I think he's a good guy.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves as the words eurocentric and right-wing might be interpreted falsely. It is obviously a very specific niche of right-wing thought that he embodies, namely a very personal and spiritual interpretation of apoliteic and konservativ-revolutionäre ideas. Anton Shekhovtsov's article "Apoliteic Music" is recommended (although to be taken with a grain of salt given its decidedly antifascist nature and the tendency of the author to sensationalise and overgeneralise) as well as a recent article called something like "Death In June and the Apoliteic spectre of neofolk in Germany" or seomething like that. We can draw parallels to some areas of thought of the European New Right but really DI6 represents a far more esoteric and personal approach to politics that exists outside the constraints of the left/right dichotomy, being decidedly rooted in both and neither.

Hey, I actually kind of like that. Also, heilige! Those numbers! Rec some more stuff you like, perhaps less driven by hard kicks?

>DI6 represents a far more esoteric and personal approach to politics that exists outside the constraints of the left/right dichotomy, being decidedly rooted in both and neither.
and that's honestly really all there is to it

Saw this performed live last sunday in a cave. Tibet was drunk as shit, chugging an entire bottle of wine on stage, screaming his lungs out; shit was amazing.

Anyone seen Dougie's gay porn film?

I really dig the Black Merlin one. The drum rythms have a very martial, European feel to them. I don't normally listen to electronic music at all, especially not quantised and drum oriented, and I hate to pester you, but do you have anymore that could evoke this pagan old world feeling I love so much?

No and I looked a bit but wouldn't really know where to find it. Doesn't seem to be on soulseek.

I'm amazed there's not any screenshots or anything from it floating about on the web

>evoke this pagan old world feeling I love so much
Sol Invictus ?

>I hate to pester you, but do you have anymore that could evoke this pagan old world feeling I love so much
nah man your not, I feel you, that's what I look for in music. I'm assuming you've listened to zoviet france, or enigma?
I need this for reasons

I'm pretty sure you can buy it. It was called Vignettes, so just search "Douglas Pearce Vignettes" and you might find a website for it, but I'm not going to buy gay porn just to fulfill a morbid curiosity I have.

nicee thank you, but unlike you i love being hit with that gay shit

Gee whiz, never heard of them. Are they some kind of new hip underground neofolk band? Well, like most of these teenage pseudo-intellectual Death In June ripoffs they're songs lack the spirit of the old school. You can just feel how all of this was lovelessly thrown together in Ableton. Don't even got a norse name, what a bunch of poseurs.

Nope, haven't. As I said, no real contact with electronic music at all except for some martial industrial, November Növelet and Welle:Erdball in my goth days. The concept of drum machines and synths seems inviting but most stuff I started with always turned me off. I'll look into those, are they reminiscent of that Black Merlin song?

The "MatureAussie" website is offline, sadly. The name Vignettes seems rather common. Doesn't matter, I can find anything so I'll find this.

>Gee whiz, never heard of them.
LOL that's some A level trolling.Good thing old Tony is very unlikely to roam these parts or is he?

Stop trying to bring politics into music. You can enjoy it no matter your beliefs.

>Come to me

>Anyone seen Dougie's gay porn film?
hell no.Even though I was aware of his oriention after reading Misery and Purity I still remember being mildy shocked when he advertised it so openly (have forgotten where was is the Yahoo list?) and bragging about fucking a " Roehm-look-alike"

>a new newfolk thread

Okay, I found the porn. It's on a gay torrent site, however I need to create an account to download and it doesn't accept my guerrillamail adress. Any other fake email websites you guys know of that could work?
It's on gaytracker dot ru, you can find it by searching "mature aussie vignettes" on duckduckgo with family filter turned off. If anyone can recover the magnet, please share it. Or just give me some fake email websites to work with.

You say that but with an artist whose work is as personal as that of Death In June understanding what the artist is all about can heighten your enjoyment of his music immensely. Of course polemic antifascist accusations of nazism as well as defenses of it just being gay love songs are idiotic but so is your position of completely ignoring this very important facet of his work.

Hey, you got nice digits again! I'll listen to these, care to have a try at that gay porn site?

>"If you swooned at the sight of photos of me naked on Gaydar then me in full colour action should be right up your strasse"

>If you swooned at the sight of photos of me naked on Gaydar
Link to these as well pls?
Not for gay reasons, of course...

God damn it, every time I make a neofolk thread and it actually grows into something worthwhile that totally makes up for the countless times it doesn't that happen in between.
Kameradschaft!

i'm working on it but I don't have a phone to use for the code part, just the email lol

Is there any Current 93 works worth checking in the 80's after dogs blood rising and nature unveiled?

They shut me out now, can't register at the moment. It says I have to buy an invite. Hope you can do it.
We're pretty fucking close though.

Swastikas for Noddy????

I always liked Christ and the Pale Queens Mighty in Sorrow for some reason
It still ahve some industrial infuences but is mostly a neofolk album

Will take about 20 minutes or so. I'll share it with you via mega once I have it.

I saw Die Weisse Rose live at Runes&Men last year. Great set. Kim Larsen contributed to the drumming.

I have to admit, he gives me the creeps. Not sure what it is but he has the eyes of a merciless killer. He probably would make for a great viking. Great music though.

>have to admit, he gives me the creeps. Not sure what it is but he has the eyes of a merciless killer. He probably would make for a great viking. Great music though.
i'm glad i'm not the only one lol

I love DI6, but I wasn't able to get into any other neofolk band. C93, Rome, Sol Invictus all got a few songs that I like, but that's it. C93 is way too weird for me, even though I listen to black metal and some industrial. It's insanely disturbing. The other two that I mentioned just haven't clicked for me, can't say exactly why. And then there's lots of soulless DI6 copycats and shit like Von Thronstahl. The latter is pretty much a parody of itself
>molti piu nemici, molti piu onore
I just wish I could get into a neofolk band that's sounds unique, but has that DI6 magic about it and it's accessible (for neofolk standards ofc).

also, here's some commie inspired martial industrial
youtu.be/VvAuB5svNLM

have you tried king dude? or of the wand and moon? I suggest going out for walks while listening or chilling by a window and reading
youtube.com/watch?v=Iaq76W_HpaI&t=86s

Well, DI6 has lots and lots of music so you're in luck. Took me years to get into other neofolk as well and I can't into C93 and Sol Invictus either. Rome became my second true love after a few months of not getting it and feeling like it was too "pop" (first album I listened to was Flowers From Exile). German tradition neofolk was easier to get into. Stuff like Forseti, Falkenstein, Nebelung and Inneres Gebirge is all quite unique and magical, albeit not much like Death In June. Much more folk, less industrial and synth influence. Fire+Ice I also found easier to get into than C93 and Sol. There's a lot of talk about Death In June clones but I think that's kind of unfair, even bands like Von Thronstahl (although I agree they are so bad it's legitimately funny most of the time) and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio have some unique features. Those Death In June influences are just what this paericular strain of neofolk is made of. Listen to Of The Wand And The Moon and Rome more and it will click at some point. Rome especially is some of the best the genre has to offer on a technical as well as poetic level and some OTWATM songs are just beautiful, no matter how scary the man behind the music. King Dude always sounded too American for my taste but if you're American that might be a good thing.

Excellent. Never thought I'd find this shit. Thanks for your mental support and this all around pleasant thread. It's nice when one of these amounts to something every few months or so. You're still the same guy from before, the one with the bleeps, right? Always kind of hard to tell around here.
youtube.com/watch?v=5KykXE-t5P0

yea i'm still the same chick with the shitty bleeps lel. I'm glad this thread is doing well, such a beautiful genre that needs more love.
youtube.com/watch?v=9l06zd3mX34

oh yea heres another good one with a mix of bleeps and industrial sounds without to much kick
youtube.com/watch?v=KSNnP43wzPg
youtube.com/watch?v=bl7Jp9Ry_Ps

Hm, I can't seem to find the same love for this as I did for Black Merlin (I think I downloaded his whole discography now, hoping more stuff like Phase I will be there), probably because of the kind of drum rythms. I think what really bugs me about most techno and related genres is the steadiness of the rythm with the bass drum coming in equal intervals throughout the song, whereas here youtube.com/watch?v=og41c2P35mE the rythm is kind of shifted so it sounds kind of martial and organic. Is there a name for that kind of thing? Also, I was just reminded of the beginning of this concert youtube.com/watch?v=LgahtXJPr5A (~0:38 in), very nice drumming and atmosphere. Such energy. I normally don't like Luftwaffe but this they're good at.

hmm I understand, it's hard when it's really just called techno with industrial influences. Maybe try other things form the label ( pinkman), really quality stuff
youtube.com/watch?v=j8afwuhFguY

it's only wasted if you didn't go outside
