I love Wild Honey. It might be my favorite Beach Boys album but imo it's not really comparable to Pet Sounds. If anything it's the antithesis. Wild Honey is the sound of the Beach Boys letting loose after the strenuous period of studio auteurship associated with the Pet Sounds/Smile sessions. Pet Sounds is meticulously planned and orchestrated whereas Wild Honey is the Beach Boys getting together in a room and jamming until songs came out.

this has already been posted but this. Van Dyke Parks was brians main collaborator on the SMiLE project. Van Dyke was very influenced by pet sounds and you can hear some of those influences in "Song Cycle." Song Cycle is kind of the missing link between pet sounds and smile. it helps that its extremely progressive and very different for its time like pet sounds and SMiLE
