The classic albums from before the 2000's all have a certain charm and authenticity that not many, modern dungeon synth artists come close to replicating. Only ones I can think of are Til Det Bergens Skyggene and Thangorodrim. I feel like most modern dungeon synth is too polished and often lacks the lo-fi genuine synth work and black metal aesthetic that most early releases had.

idk. i love the old, lofi stuff too, but i'm actually really interested in where the new sound is headed. i'd rather have modern acts evolving and trying new things than emulating what varg and mortiis already perfected
