вълк is spelled and pronounced 'vuk' in sebocroatian, but in older croatian texts you can find vlk, so l -> u is a widespread vocal change across the slavic languages, but we don't spell it like l anymore, and you still do

Yeah, because out of all Slavs they're pretty much the biggest non-countries with no history to call their own, so they invented themselves the most Slavic looking names to cover it up.
Croatia, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, all existed by around 1000 A.D. Don't be fooled, Slow-vaks and Slovenes are a 20th century invention.
