/gg/Grimes

Despite AA (Art Angels) popularity, my favorite album of Grimes is actually Visions (2012). The production on this album feels more raw, the same way Pretty Hate Machine felt. Grimes have even mentioned that Trent Reznor is an inspiration. Visions feels like Claire's 100% own creation. Which I think is a major factor to my enjoyment of it.

yeah, those visions - phm comparisons make sense. visions is grimes' raw and unadulterated creativity on display. no music industry mercenaries to interfere with her vision.

Good blog post

>no music industry mercenaries to interfere
Same case as with Art Angels desu. It's just that it was made for a different target musical niche.
Alhough with that said my personal favorite is Halfaxa/Darkbloom.

Have you been keeping up with the news about her next album? I don't have the quote in front of me atm, but one of the comments Grimes has made about it is that she's specifically aiming to spend dramatically LESS time on the production stage of things (than she did on Art Angels) so that it is rawer sounding.

Bump

Makes sense to me

I swear no song makes me happier than "Rosa" which will probably never be played live again...

F E E L S

The first time I listened to her discography (chronologically) in full, Rosa was the song where I really started to sit up and listen.

That's a bad analogy. PHM was good but TDS was clearly their masterpiece.

/gg/ is guitar general, gtfo out of here grimes fans.

also, NiN / Trent Reznor will always be infinitely better than grimey grimes. someone get her a shower and an artpit shave.

>/gg/ is guitar general, gtfo out of here
Talk to the op - personally I'm not autistic enough to care one way or the other.

>artpit
Freudian slip?

>both of them produce their own stuff
>both basically one man shows
>"someone get her a shower"
How can you not see the similarities user? also brainlet for not thinking she's attractive

geidi is by far her best. the further towards pop she went, the worse things got.

gg has always been Grimes General noob. I'm honestly so tired of guitar fags and metal sheep heads

yea i agree lmao

that user again. yes, i'm aware that she's still in charge of her career and art angels was exactly what she wanted.

california. so sad

bump this important meme

lame post
>the worse things got.
you just don't like pop. things are still good.

what career

grimes is amazing bean

Claire

Different strokes for Siegenthaler fools. I generally DON'T LIKE contemporary pop music, and yet I've so far I've really liked her more straightforwardly poppy records.

>Siegenthaler fools.
Lol - now my spell check is speaking German to me

* Different strokes for different folks...

bump

>gg has always been Grimes Genera
Nope

...

this, Geidi Primes is amazing but so damn underrated

Yeah the difference is that Trent did it when machinery and computers were the size of a file cabinet on a dial-up connection and Grimes uses apps available on smartphones

There were no usable music production apps for smart phones when Grimes started.

Laptops were a thing by then which is what she used

/gg/ is guitar general you prepubescent waste of oxygen

blacked when

>computers were the size of a file cabinet
The Macintosh Plus is about the size of a medium-size microwave and dialup connections in the late 80s had nothing to do with music production. Stop exaggerating.

Wow. That is wild.

Trent used all analog gear. He had to program each sound into his synths one by one whereas Grimes could access any sound for free and digitally add it digitally for free to her computer applications. Which takes zero effort

>Trent used all analog gear.
What is analog about a Macintosh Plus?

He used all-analog gear in addition to his computer tech
You clearly thought I meant that he used only analog gear
Has Grimes ever even seen a moog?

>Grimes could access any sound for free and digitally
Trent could access any sound for free and in analog forum because he worked at a recording studio and had after-hours access to the equipment. He capitalized on the resources immediately available to him to make his music EXACTLY like Grimes.

>He used all-analog gear in addition to his computer tech
Meaning that he did - in fact - NOT use all analog gear.

>Has Grimes ever even seen a moog?
Probably.

>t Rez and Grimes are identical because they both use resources
Ok "smart guy" riddle me this
Why has Grimes only made two 7/10s and 2 5/10s while Trent went on to make the definitive industrial metal EP only 3 years after his debut masterpiece PHM, the most important industrial double LP to break mainstream two years after Broken, and a sprawling two-disc magnum opus The Fragile?
What has "Claire Boucher" done that can rival these masterworks?

maybe OP was wrong about that but how can you NOT think she's attractive!???!?

">Which takes zero effort"
what is this unreasonable logic? Salty much?

She has redefined pop from the shit that all lowest common denominators listen to today. Her fifth upcoming album will probably be on the importance level of The Fragile in pop music,

her music career

>Why has Grimes only made two 7/10s and 2 5/10s
Because you have poor taste in judging music. Case in point - you're obviously an industrial music fan.

Yeah it's real cool that she took anco and made it better but that's not much compared to the impact Trent Reznor had on industrial (turned it into a mainstream genre) with pretty hate machine alone

Why are (in this case industrial) genre-limited music fans always so salty?

Are you the same guy who made a thread comparing Visions to Incunabula by Autechre?

OP here and no, I have never heard of "Autechre"

Are you guys remembering to be nice?

Don't even mention Grimes under the same breath as Nine Inch Nails

Unlike you?

What does she have under her skirt?

hi /grims, long time no see
if u havent already, listen to this album that was released around the same time grimes released her debut
