3 is overrated to be honest. first one is the best and 2 is a great sequel, third just is so overflowing with crap the gameplay becomes a menial task even if the writing and overall quality is fine

It's got great atmosphere and the combat is passable enough not to detract from the overall. Plus, being on GoG makes it easier to pirate and feel good about it, as Project Pole/GoG are criminals who don't deserve a cent of my money. Considering they make a shitload of money by selling abandonware they, like the jews they are, nabbed for themselves before buddying up with the most cancerous publishers and collectively going after the very groups who made their business possible in the first place.

The first two books are short story collections, in theory you could start with the third book and then work your way from there.
