The World Cup of Darts moves into the last 16 stage today from the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt. The format is now the first to two wins, with a pair of best-of-seven leg singles matches, and a best-of-seven leg doubles decider if required.
Thursday's nations get the day started, and it's Belgium against Greece to kick things off. With the Greeks having just scraped past Thailand while averaging 70-something, this should be a fairly easy victory for Huybrechts Jr. & Huybrechts Sr. Wales then take on cross water neighbours Ireland; with Gerwyn Price and Mark Webster having averaged 100 in Round 1, this should also be too much for the unseeded nation. Two long haired beardy blokes will hopefully play each other next with Simon Whitlock's Australia and nutcase Aleksandr Oreshkin's Russia, and the Aussie pisshead's wrist injury could cause the possibility of an upset by the Ruskies. Ending the afternoon are Scotland conquerors Singapore and Spain; even at 63 Paul Lim is throwing some wonderful darts, and with Cristo Reyes and Antonio Alcinas inconsistent at times against Japan, the dream run could go on for the Asians.
The evening has Friday's competitors in action, with "Austria" starting against John Part and batshit insane John Nornan Jnr's Canada; this should be a sterner test for the 7th seeds having had zero challenge from China. The host nation Germany then play Brazil in the other all-unseeded tie after Max Hopp and Martin Schindler's last leg winner over Northern Ireland, hopefully with less booing of the opposition. The new England team of Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall face South Africa, who were very scrappy against Sweden so even with how bad Snackpot played yesterday, they should get through fairly easily. The Netherlands end R2 against the USA, and even a one-legged Michael van Gerwen along with Raymond vsn Barneveld should make it through here, after their 109 average last night.
Coverage starts from 1:00pm UK time on Sky Sports 1.
First time Aussies have failed to get to the quarters since 2013.
That was an absolute humbling.

What a theatre king Koltsov

Must be hard for Whitlock. First Nicho the maniac, now the useless Abbo, and soon a self-absorbed criminal.
William Rodriguez
Doesn't really suit him, he should go for the tall, calm russian bear image.

And that D20 ends a session that saw 2 big shocks and three top 32 players dumped out of the tournament.
Belgium had the easiest ride of the lot with an 8-2 aggregate spanking of Greece; Kim Huybrechts managed to miss 17 darts at a double but still got past Ioannis Selachoglou with ease while Ronny Huybrechts set a new TV record (for a Belgian) with a blistering 115.62 average in an obliteration of John Michael.
Wales once again ended up in last leg deciders but won them both to knock out the Irish. Gerwyn Price and Mick McGowan had a remarkably bad time on the doubles, with 30 missed between them both and 15 of those were for the match! Mark Webster meanwhile came from 3-2 down to defeat William O'Connor, winning with a smart 81 on the bull.
Russia were the first big upsetters of the session by eliminating Australia. Kyle Anderson's scoring was OK but when it got down to the finishes he just couldn't set them up properly, only having 6 in the match, as madman Aleksandr Oreshkin broke the Abbo's throw three times and crucially held in the sixth to get a point. Boris Koltsov kicked off the next match with a 138 finish but Simon Whitlock's 57% on the finishes tied the fixture. Alas, Anderson's problems continued into the pairs match as the Aussies could only get three attempts at a finish - all in the first leg - and the Russians secured a famous victory.
Antonio Alcinas was the disappointment in the Singapore-Spain match as he let Paul Lim through without a threat, a 112 from the veteran destroying the Spaniard's confidence. Cristo Reyes tied it up after Harith Lim didn't turn up, but younger Lim reappeared to support senior Lim (whereas Alcinas vanished) in the pairs for the second whitewash of the tie and their first ever World Cup quarter-final tomorrow.
We return in 2 hours. See you then.
