south park peaked at season 2

Old completely out of left-field South Park humour was the best. The funniest joke in the show's entire run is still NAMBLA (North American Marlon Brando Look-Alikes).

Back when they made actual jokes instead of doing shitty political commentary every season.

The planetarium is ahh-ahh?

Yup.

Why Garrison? Why didn't they just use the real Trump and let the political jokes develop as usual like with the past three presidents?

It started towards the end of the previous season when everyone thought Trump would quickly disappear and it'd just be a one off gag, so I guess they kinda got stuck (rather fittingly).

Garrison has outlived his welcome.

He's been gay, a lesbian, a tranny, a model, abused, abusive, into bestiality, into pedophilia and dozens of dozens of other things.

They can't do any more with the character.

South Park isn't bad now. It's just not the same show.

It's not as much about laughing as it is about making your noodle boodle with ironic commentary.

I still think this "joined plotlines" between each episode is a huge mistake.

One of the perks of South Park was being able to catch an episode every now and then. Now you need to know the 17 different sub-plots going to understand anything.

And you HAVE to understand, because the humor is barely existing on its own.

I still don't get the joke about the Danish. Why have they concluded that the Danish are hunting trolls?

Trolls are mountain-creatures. There are no mountains in Denmark.

I know it's a weird detail to get caught up in, but what a weird choice to go with when both Sweden (YES) and Norway has a much stronger troll-hunting culture.

Weird as he's still among the best characters.
He's racist, sexist, idiotic, and yet.. still

Oh absolutely. Mr. Garrison is, to me, literally up there with Eric Cartman as icons for the show.

Where Eric used to be "all the worst parts of children" Garrison was "all the worst parts of adults".

I still miss Mr. Hat.

Overall the show is more about the plot now than the characters, and that is such a bad move for it IMO.

Here's an interesting way to look at things:

>Season 1 - 3
Jokes about being a child and doing childish things spinning out of control. Occasional celebrities.

>Season 3 - 9
Jokes about celebrities take the spotlight. The show becomes less about the characters, and more about the character's reactions to celebrities. This went on for a long long time.

>Season 9 - today
Mostly about politics and criticizing society with occasional celebrity impersonations. The show barley has anything to do with characters anymore, and is mostly about the events that unfold.

When did Mr. Hat disappear? When he finally accepted he was gay?

Gross simplication

>When he finally accepted he was gay
Pretty much

>Gross simplication
Well of course. I can't LITERALLY summarize 3-4 seasons accurately in two to three sentences.

>When did Mr. Hat disappear? When he finally accepted he was gay?

Well not really right after. It took a while where he had a homosexual relationship with Mr. Hat.

He dumped him a few times for Mr. Twig.

He eventually graduated to Mr. Slave, and I think Mr. Hat and the entire "Mr. Something" was written off around there.

I'd make more divisions. But even then, I feel they always had a satirical take on things, it's just much more prevalent now.

Problem is: I think you run out of ideas and have to look at pop culture. They aren't making BAD episodes, just they aren't haha funny anymore, but rather just clever or sort of entertaining.

Last episode actually did make me laugh a few times.

Matt and Trey hate season 2 and think its the worst one they've made coz they were rushed by the network

True, but I do feel there was a very strong red line between characters - celebrities - politics.

You nailed it about the episodes though. And though they are clever in the way they integrate pop-culture into their episodes (most of the time anyway), it's still not really openly funny.

And that's kinda' the point of the show though, isn't it? To be funny?

I'm not sure Trey and Matt see it that way anymore.

matt and trey also thought oprah's minge and asshole having an argument was fucking hilarious. they have shit taste.

It was alright, but it was during the celebrity-period of the show. Where they wheeled in whatever celebrity was hot at the time and did a mocking episode about them.

To this day, I do not understand this episode.

Was this the first time Matt and Trey literally dropped the ball?

This was the first episode I think I've seen of South Park where the writers really didn't understand the material they were trying to make fun of.

Does it just operate on more levels or irony than I can conceive, or did Matt and Trey really think this was what memes were all about?

I liked it. First episode of South Park I ever saw. Not their best of course.

What's the hate? They're right about memes and there was some real jokes
>Tebowing
>"reporting
>"Oh loooong johnson!"
>It's called PANDERING

Member when SP was original and nonsensical instead of just predictable cliches and two-bit social commentary?

>first time

>They're right about memes

No, they're not. They think that "memeing" is doing some obscure act in front of a camera in a public place with a random name?

When the fuck has this ever been a meme?

A meme is an internet culture phenomenon, usually a short phrase or image.

Not whatever the hell Matt and Trey think it is in this episode.

The most noticeable time then.

The "cartmen joins nambla" episode was them ripping on a subject that was huge in the news at the time tho

Memes existed BEFORE the internet.

You forget that planking and owling ARE memes. The cat was also a meme.
To be fair, it's more about trends, but memes are pretty much what they meant.

Or Kilroy was here. that's some world war memeing.

I'm pretty sure (I can't source you on this so I might be wrong) that planking and owling blew up BECAUSE of the internet.

It became a meme because it blew up online.

That's not the point I'm making. I'm saying the "taking videos in front of things" IS a meme.

This. Also the Andre the Giant stickers.

South Park died after Mrs.Garrison

I fear Southpark is going the simpson route with just references each episode.

It's pure cancer

Simpsons has always been references though, now it's just less subtle

Nah, Simpsons is literally just "thin plot with references as padding for 20 minutes".

South Park is "thin political satire with references as pandering for 20 minutes".

Neither one of them need the term "jokes" in their descriptions.

jokes on celelbrities has been at the heart of south park since the very start. name one episode that doesn't have a reference to a celebrity or what have then been a talking point in the news

They've both got wives and wives sons to look after now, they haven't got time to scour the internet looking for up to date fresh news to make fun of. Hence the rick rollin, it's the last meme they remember

SEASON RANKINGS
>great tier
8, 11
>good tier
6, 5, 7, 9
>mediocre tier
4, 1, 14, 13, 3, 17, 12, 19'
>shit tier
2, 18, 15, 16, 10

>rick rollin

I still don't understand that no one at the company they work at had the brains/balls required to tell them this meme was almost funny a decade ago?

Does anyone fucking rick roll anymore?

Nonsense, it peaked at seasons 5-11

It kind of makes sense in-universe since the people who sent them to Denmark are exactly the kind who would only remember rick-rolling.

Also, rick-rollin is normie friendly. More normies watching = more shekels.

Nigger, these were memes at the time.

Not everyone is an obscure Vietnamese basket-weaving image board shitposter like us. Whether you like it or not, Sup Forums has only taken hold of the 'meme culture' recently. Before, it belonged to funny junk and 9gag normies.

>More normies watching = more shekels.

I guess that's true.

>Whether you like it or not, Sup Forums has only taken hold of the 'meme culture' recently.

At least the concept of lurking is dead.

That was 2012.
Sup Forums were the meme masters until around 2012. Since then its been a descent into reddit and normies on facebook.
Funny junk and 9gag never created content.

...

They have dope taste
Star Trek, anime, what else is good in life?

>everyone
YOU LOST LMAO

>it's a retard doesn't know what a meme is but thinks he can look down on other retards for not knowing what a meme is episode

I think they saw the whole planking bullshit that was happening then and ran away with the concept, don't overthink it man its just a shitty episode

Rickrolling is fine... it's still a huge symbol of trolling. The point isn't if its a relevant meme, the point is its a troll

American education. And that's a genuinely great film tebehe.

They should just start ageing the characters, it makes more sense when this is the new setup. Its the only way to really bring any new dynamic into the show.

When it was just one-off episodes it was ok that they were stuck in fourth grade, but no they really need to let the characters grow in a different way by ageing them.

Does Danish folklore not have trolls?

I want to know why they dropped this joke when they have carried on with so many others.

Man that movie was great. Probably one of the few "found footage" style films I've actually thoroughly enjoyed.
I know some people hate it but to this day I haven't had more fun watching any other movie in a stream.

this post made me mad

Nope, season 2 through the movie were prime south park. you think the way you do due to your young age

>im 16

they probably just forgot

Don't like these overarching storylines, I wish they still did a few self contained episodes.

Also when's Cartman going to be funny again.

I'm expecting something horrible to happen with/to Heidi(?) and for him to snap back to his former self.

>There are no ghouls here. Only FARTS!
One of my favorite. It's still an inside joke with my friends.

If he doesn't do the most outrageous, evil, hilarious thing I've seen in my entire life then all this was for nothing. They have to reach a whole new level for this to be worth it

So... no answer.
What's that mean? The Danishfags realize "Yes, we have trolls and so the joke makes sense"
or
Fag on internet was just make excuses to why the creators suck?

Whatever happened to the Mayor?

Fat Americans with short attention spans need not apply.

sucky sucky fie dorrah

I still quote that to this day

Still exists. She popped up last season I think.

He's right and I'm not American. It ISN't bad, but it's changed alot

ive read a contradicting account where they wanted to make an episode so boring and unrelated to the dynamic of the show that the oprah episode is what came about

Danes don't really have their completely separated folklore. It's scandinavian folklore, not norwegian, swedish or danish.

But Denmark really has no mountains and has always been more similar to continental europe rather than the isolation that both sweden and norway has had. Therefore folk tales and mythology of trolls, jotuns, huldra, nökken, and so on are more relevant to sweden and norway than to denmark.

Still, it can fit for Denmark.

Why pick Denmark and not the others?
No clue.

Because much like Canada, no one gives a shit about Denmark, and no one will care if they get mad.

Fun fact: The show you're talking about was made by Americans. Meanwhile Brits are busy figuring out which comedic actor will be wearing a dress on this week's top BBC comedy.

Aren't they Canadian?

You've got it wrong though, Danes are probably happy that they are being portrayed this way. Its us norwegians and swedish that are angry, because they are portraying denmark as we are and they have never been.

Good enough.

Anyone who brings up "Why is Denmark different now?" or "Why did they pick Denmark" is basically just a whiner. Of ALL the complaints you could make, this one is weak.

Oh, you guys are all the same. Yes, Denmark is the European, but that's it.

>South Park is in Canada.

...

Stupid Deerposter

>Officer Barbrady walks into Tweek's coffee shop
>Asks for the usual
>Tweek's dad hits him with a cat on the face
>Barbrady pays and leaves

She was in yaoi episode

the whole season has been about nostalgia so it makes sense

cartman hasnt been funny since trey stopped being able to do the voice like 15 years ago

I mean I just want him to be an asshole again.

Anyone who thinks sp peaked at season 2 has just outed himself as the pleb he is, also nostalgia goggles. Season 2 is objectively mediocre, it was the season that t&m had least control over because they thought the normal thing to was to let other people take over the bulk of production. In season 3 they took creative control back, and it shows.

...

My guess is most of their A material is going to the game they're making.

>First episode of South Park I ever saw.
underage b&

how fucking new are you?

NAMBLA is a left wing organization.

Post favorite episodes.

>I broke the dam

No, I broke the dam.

I broke the dam

I'm 25. You forget how old SP is anyway.
