Honestly I care less about flagautism and patriotism and more about nationalism and the well-being of both Hungarians and Slovakians and Hungarians in the Felvidék. The problem isn't Slovak rule or bullying now, but that people don't care about their cultural roots and don't have a drive to have big families. Even if they would speak Slovak, but have many children and live happy, comfortable lives caring about their history I don't mind. The actual people are more important than political, militaristic hegemony.

We had political, militaristic hegemony before 1914, and where would it lead us? We still became a minority in our own country, resented and even hated by other people. Demanding the land back doesn't mean anything. We need to win the people back by being fair and successful. We need to improve our economy, our society and have good relations with the other white, European countries around us.

This is the great Hungarian historiographical boogeyman, the idea that the Hungarians were once a majority throughout the lands of the crown of St. Steve sans Croatia but that they were progressively replaced by Slovaks and Romanians in the wake of natural and political disasters such as the black death and the Ottoman occupation. To me, it seems implausible that Hungarians would be the one ethnicity in preindustrial Hungary with lower birth rates than their subjects, as there is no economic explanation I can think of as to why this was supposed to be so.

It's not about lower birthrates, but the actual Ottoman occupation and the zenith of the Ottoman war happening in the middle of Hungary, where ethnic Hungarians lived for 150 years. We do have the actual archeological evidence to support that both the Tartar and the Ottoman wars hit Hungarians the most.

Granted, I don't know all that much about the historical situation in Hungary at large, but from the perspective of Slovenian history, there were in fact two areas that were given over to Slovenes for colonisation, one for repopulation (a part of Somogy) and the other for the defence of Austria against the Turks (an area just to the east of the current border with Slovenia called Orszag, or Stražno in Slovene). Both communities assimilated into the Hungarian nation in the span of a century or two. So the reasonable conclusion that can be drawn from this is that the Hungarians were never a majority in all of the lands controlled by the Hungarian nobility, just like the Slovene lands with their Bavarian nobility were never ethnically German (though, surprisingly, Austrian nationalists did put forth a theory identical to the Hungarian one, in that the Slovenes are supposed the product of Croaitan and Serbian flight before the Ottoman Turks into formerly exclusively German lands).

These maps were actually made based upon archeological evidence, so the "slav" actually shows settled down plow farming villages, while the "magyar" is also the pechenegs, kabars, jász and other pontic people and the assimilated slavs from Etelköz and Levédia, who became part of the tribal society or provided crops for the Hungarian population around them.

The main difference is the village structure, used tools, ornaments, jewellery, burial habits... etc.
