enough of the kid shows. yeah, i'm looking at you Game of Thrones, Marvel shows, and Mr. Robots. what are the best currently airing shows for adults? by that, i don't mean porn, but actual quality shows that explore adult themes. off the top of my head, i'd put the following in that category:
Rectify The Girlfriend Experience House of Cards The Fall High Maintenance (this one's borderline) Top of the Lake
any others? i'm probably missing a lot. i'd love to read some recommendations. there are way too many series out there to watch and i'd like to sift through the mediocre stuff.
Nicholas Butler
The Leftovers
Gabriel Smith
yeah, i've tried that but only got two or three episodes in and couldn't get into it. i should give it a another try as i heard good things about the show.
Aiden Harris
Please explain why TGE and HoC belong on the list. I thought anyone who loves Rectify would have guaranteed decent tastes but you might prove me wrong
Wyatt Nelson
Quarry, solid show if you like REctify
Carson Harris
House of Cards explores the dynamic of a political power couple. yes, it gets heavy-handed at times, but i think the performances sometimes outweigh the poignancy or nuance. the first two seasons doe this best, but Mrs. Underwood's relationship with her mother was handled quite well.
The Girlfriend Experience is my favorite discovery of the year. the show explores how a woman may be seduced into escorting. it also delves into the relationships an upper class escort has with clients and parallels them to the one's she has with family and coworkers.
it's okay if you do not care for the shows. no big deal. but to claim they aren't quality shows is facetious at best and downright imbecilic at worst.
Justin Lopez
Young Pope is the best show currently airing, easily
Luis Ward
anything written by lindelof is most definitely for children.
also television is dead, read a book negro.
Luis Cruz
oh damn, i forgot about that show. i recall the trailer for it was quite captivating. thanks for reminding me of it, i'll check it out soon.
Levi Gomez
i'm currently reading Umberto Eco's Baudolino, William Faulkner's The Unvanquished, Norman Mailer's Picasso bio, and Thomas McGuane's Crow Fair.
what books are you reading?
yeah, that's Sorrentino's new one, right? i'm waiting for it to air here in the states in January, i think.
Ayden Watson
Just because it has to be said...
you can apply that level of interpretation to just about anything. The only barrier are concepts surrounding artistic intent. But fuck artistic intent.
Ethan Miller
>im reading 4 books at once
kek pseud detected
also, Umberto is YA trash, Faulkner and his corncobby chronicles are ignored by any real literati, nonfiction is laughably autistic, and Crow Fair isn't even a proper book, its an anthology.
In conclusion kys desu, you're not even a committed enough pseud to fit on on /lit/ and you should go back to shitposting cunny threads or something.
Ryder Bell
going to have to try harder, mate. obvious bait is obvious.
indeed. i was simply stating the reasons i enjoy those shows, not writing a dissertation as to your barriers of artistic merit or intent. if you're up for it, i'd like to read a list as to why you find those shows unequal to the others.
Julian Mitchell
The Young Pope
Salem
Aiden Perez
The Americans.
Henry Cox
>Currently airing >implying it will get a second season
Josiah Thompson
THIS H I S
Parker Cruz
Used to be Quarry, now it's The Young Pope.
Ayden Wood
house of cards and the fall both shit the bed, rectify is good though
fargo its always sunny true detective silicon valley
Carter Wood
why dont we have shit that Sup Forums watches general ; - ;
Isaac Adams
still waiting for The Expanse new season.
Hudson Cooper
I thought this was a Rectify thread where I could express my hate towards Trey. Turns out it's not.
Grayson Adams
>HoC shat the bed >mentions True Detective Wew
Tyler Carter
>The Fall i agree the third season was a let down. i still enjoyed aspects of it, though.
>House of Cards the first two seasons were topnotch. the rest isn't up to par, but still not rotten.
this reminds me of The West Wing after Sorkin left. the quality drop off was evident. while that show dropped off a cliff quality-wise, i don't think either The Fall nor House of Cards suffered that much.
Blake Davis
Fargo is great. forgot that one. i can't get into Silicon Valley. from what i've seen of Sunny it's quite funny. the less said about the second season of True Detective the better. however, i applaud Pizzolatto for attempting this type of ensemble cop noir. sucks he failed with his second attempt.
Carson Fisher
Echoing The Young Pope as the best show currently airing. I didn't watch the most recent season of House of Cards, but I saw the first three and they were mediocre.
The Leftovers and Fargo are also decent, although the latter doesn't focus on big adult themes as much.
Did you actually watch 2 or 3? The third episode is a lot different from the first two, and is one of the best in Season 1 IMO.
Nicholas Wright
>The Leftovers yes. the last thing i recall seeing was an episode where a man drives up to a compound where some prophet resides. something like that. i really could not get over the silly smoking cult thing in the first or second episode.
Zachary James
Pustina is the best show atm. Channel Zero is comfy.
Jackson Moore
just read a little about that. apparently it's called Wasteland here in the states. i look forward to checking it out.
another show i recently dug was Fortitude. it's not great, but the setting is intriguing. matter of fact, it does get rather silly at times. more of a guilty pleasure than anything.
Noah Mitchell
>Fortitude I really liked it. Strong atmosphere. Intruiging setting. It gets a bit over the top at times but apart from the rabid violence it is patrician. No bad guys, no love interest, no beautiful people, no happiness, no family values. Just a lot of suspense and a solid finish. One of my all time favorites. In January next season comes out.
Owen Hernandez
>The Americans >Nathan For You >You're the Worst
Those are my favorite shows that are still running. YtW is the only one currently airing at the moment though and the season finale is tomorrow.
Christian Martin
How has Rectify s4 been? I'm waiting for it to end so I can watch it all at once, I absolutely adore that series.
Jace Morgan
this!
Gabriel Garcia
doing the same thing here. i usually give a series a good headstart before catching up with it.
Jaxson Morris
Westworld
Samuel Moore
It's the last season, you oughta watch it weekly just so you can discuss new episodes with fans one last time
Logan Davis
I can't watch a series as it is coming out weekly for some reason. I was able to do it with LOST since that was fun and exciting taking part in the discussion but I just like watching a series at my own pace.
Jacob Barnes
>#nofilter #cloudporn #instanature
Xavier Roberts
The Americans, nothing comes close.
Adrian Evans
mah nigga
Aaron Rivera
while i like The Americans, i find stretches of subplots rather boring. especially the children and the FBI character. it's like they found the most boring aspects of these characters and focused on that to heighten the drama of the main protagonists. just my opinion. i think it's a mediocre spy show and don't really understand why it's lauded so.
Aiden Parker
>Rectify getting good discussion on Sup Forums
I'm sorry I don't see it but it's nice knowing the series has a decent fanbase here in the mix of capeshit
hoc is awful post s2 true detective i have hope for considering it will start fresh honestly i felt like even the second season of the fall was showing cracks. i didnt even watch the third.
Ethan White
The Leftovers The Young Pope Better Call Saul Westworld Bloodline
Jayden Bennett
Bloodline's first season was amazing. the second one, not so much. i'm still waiting on Westworld to finish up to start watching it. from what i've seen in discussion threads here, i'm not expecting much. hope i'm surprised.
Nathan Gonzalez
It's pretty good. And it's almost always worth watching Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins.
Owen Cooper
Isn't Rectify just some drama about guy who gets out of prison and has to reajust? what's so good about it? does he start becoming a criminal secretly or what exactly goes on without spoilers.
Blake Harris
>does he start becoming a criminal secretly
Jordan Carter
>from what i've seen in discussion threads
>2016 >still believing anything coming from image boards
nigga please
Isaiah Brown
>Pustina Stop shilling this and then not telling me how to get it. I know it's you making those fucking threads.
Carter Wright
I gave first season a chance, it's mind numbingly boring.
Blake Brown
Black Mirror
Jonathan Barnes
Black Mirror is the very definition of reddit sensibility Sup Forumsedoracore.
Connor Martin
you have to understand the world of emotions to get this show
sorry
Parker Lopez
Ash vs Evil Dead
Owen Green
The exorcist is good, and somehow understands what made the movie good
great sound design, everything is filthy and grimey, and the plot is interesting so far
Colton Parker
>Isn't Rectify just some drama about guy who gets out of prison and has to reajust? yes. however, this line of thinking is questionable because you can reduce any narrative to a single sentence and make it sound dull. Isn't The Sopranos just about the Italian Mafia? Isn't The Wire just about cops and drug dealers? see?
what's good about Rectify is the pace, character interplay, and how the mystery is handled whether the protagonist committed the crime, had a hand in it, or did not. while some find the series too slow paced, i find it refreshing and the characters strong and well-written.
Justin Harris
I'm autistic and I understood it. Try harder.
Kevin Jenkins
Is Rectify finished yet? Season 2 made me realize that the show is too slow to watch week to week and I enjoy it more just marathoning it.
Adam Bell
ok i'll give it a shot, thanks.
Samuel Harris
while i enjoy the concepts behind each Black Mirror episode, i find the writing/dramaturgy often sophomoric and no better than a Law and Order SVU episode (damn my ex for making me watch that shit).
Evan Taylor
you did not if you found it boring.
try again
Connor Cox
Don't bring SVU into this, its the funniest thing on television by a huge margin.
Elijah Allen
as in SVU is so awful, it's hilarious, right?man, that show sucks.
Kayden Barnes
The Knick BoJack Horseman Fargo The Leftovers The Americans Peaky Blinders Underground
Oliver King
Baskets Better Call Saul Casual
Connor Fisher
The Knick is amazing. Peaky Blinders? not so much. need to check out Underground.
Jaxon Nelson
>the knick but they killed the only person worth watching the show for
John Nguyen
Baskets and Casual. need to check those out.
yeah, sucks. i heard they're going for a change up every 2 seasons. set at the knick but in a different time and different characters.
Gabriel Flores
oops, meant to reply to
William Foster
Seconding Quarry, it's probably televisions best kept secret at the moment
Adam Ross
cool, thanks. i'll check out Quarry soon.
Gavin Hernandez
1. Rectify 2. The Leftovers 3. The Young Pope 4. Rick and Morty 5. Fargo 6. You're the Worst
Juan Bennett
You're the Worst is more miss than hit with me. i've only seen the first season and by the end of that the side characters had grown beyond obnoxious to barely watchable. i did enjoy some of the interplay between the two leads, though.
Carson Robinson
The Knick became a fucking cartoon during the second season. Unwatchable.
