i have traveled california extensively and it is so varied that it is difficult to say....

Entire bay area is trash except parts of Oakland.
LA is trash except ethnic neighbourhoods but you will be an alien there.
Mendicino, etc. is very nice but quite isolated.
Merced, Los Baños, San Luis Obisbo is garbage.
South of LA is garbage.
Humbolt a little nice but isolated and dude weed
Tahoe and surrounding area very nice, relaxed, beautiful
Santa Cruz is dude weed but beautufl
Monterey and Big Sur beautiful nice pace.
That's all i know.

If i was able to choose the part of California i would choose CA. Otherwise, Finalnd.
