Most species have ways of removing the inferior beta males from the gene pools. It's done for the greater good of their kind, to ensure only the best get to mate.
Although suicide is highest amongst beta males in humans, we're yet to fully figure out a way to remove our betas from the gene pool as effectively as other animals.
