It's a corporate hell, nice to visit but bad to live in. It's clean, developed and safe with tons of places to see and things to do. Living there, being Japanese is another story, society, people, it's all so weird. There's extreme societal pressure, pressure to conform, get a job, work like crazy, get promoted. There are reasons for the high suicide rate. If you visit you're mostly exempt from tradition but Japanese are expected to act a certain way, rules and social hierarchy are so ingrained in their culture even the language reflects it.

But what if you want to work there as a foreigner? Are you still exempt of their social rules or whatever or are you expected to adapt?
I don't think I could live doing 14 hour shifts which I hear is mostly the norm over there.

Considering this I'd say the only realistic way, as a non-English speaker and not a highly skilled worker, to get a visa there is to shill out a whole lot of money, go to some shitty ass college like HAL to study whatever with the full intent of finding your future waifu. That's probably the only way to do it.
