Is the Classical era the most forgotten post Middle Age era? Pretty much only Haydn, Mozart and early GOTT are the only ones who are still performed regularly
Eli Peterson
Pretty much Bach, Vivaldi and Handel are the only Baroque composers performed regularly
Grayson Adams
This doesn't take away form their contributions, but I feel like the classical period has become a bit irrelevant. Like yeah we still do stuff from it, and use techinques from it, but the Romantic era never really died. That was about emotion and the music was about 1 upping each other and not so much about writing the music for a specific reason anymore you know. Skilled performances become a bit more of a focus and that is something that carried over to the Modern era and today. You can't go on YouTube without seeing someone doing something trying to impress and establish themselves as skilled. Plus most people think music from the classical era is boring while music from the Romantic era is still in movies (well movies that use orchestras) and their influence is more immediate with contemporary audiences.
Just my theory, I'm sure i'll be molested for saying that but that's just something I've noticed talking to people and hearing what most people want to hear.
Joshua Reyes
>forgetting Schubert and Beethoven CPE Bach is played sometimes too isn't he?
Colton Bell
>"Schubert is Classical" >doesn't know who GOTT is
Schubert was the major exponent of the Schubert not being a romantic composer meme. This was because CLT detested all romantic music.
Daniel Nguyen
Will this thread ever grow up and stop talking about that idiot. And no I am not talking about Schubert.
Jace Jenkins
Do we have a version of the iceberg meme?
Luis Foster
Whos CLT?
Jayden Moore
What's going to be sung at Midnight Mass where you are /classical/? You are going, aren't you? there are some but they're shit
Christian Ortiz
challenge accepted
post the template
Jaxon Johnson
No they're shit because it's a dumb concept.
Dylan Martinez
>inb4 it has a bunch of Beethoven pieces.
I just want to know how underground my taste in composers is like an insecure ovine faggot.
Evan King
I was thinking in just composers not pieces
(petzold at the bottom besides mozart is alive)
Chase Carter
who was that tripfag who always comments his compositions? something like posh orchestrafag
Luis Scott
You mean poly
Oliver Parker
...
Christopher Thomas
Handel is Normie as fuck. Remake
Christopher Martin
>Schönberg when are people going to stop doing this? he explicitly dropped the umlaut when he fled Nazi Germany. it's so fucking disrespectful to maintain the umlaut for a Jewish German expatriate
Grayson Walker
wow this is cancer. Unironically kill yourself more than once.
Asher Walker
Honestly I just scrambled the main composers in tier 2-4 >umlaut autism
Josiah Brown
Liszt is the second most underrated composer after Mozart
Chase Allen
it's not autism. he changed his name and all these fucking pretentious Sup Forums kids wanna add an umlaut so that they can look le cultured or something and they just come off as incredibly disrespectful along with looking like dipshits
Jason Bennett
that isn't even half the composers. And anything that encourages Poly is automatically cancer.
Isaac Hall
As a Norwegian seeing the ö sound spelled as "oe" makes me cringe
Levi Peterson
He's pretty much like Bach, some of his works are very popular, but the majority of his operas remain unknown for the casual listener
Logan Lopez
well as a person who lost his family in the Holocaust and had to move to fucking LA, he'd likely cringe much harder at some fucking Scandinavian imposing his arbitrary language preferences on him posthumously
Oliver Peterson
Same with all the people insisting that Handel should have an umlaut and should be considered German
Jaxon Campbell
actually, this is how the German ö sound is properly represented German oe =/= Norwegian au phonetically Röte =/= rodt
Connor Allen
It is still commonly spelled with the proper ö outside of English spheres ka meina du oe e for dei me jalla-alfabet som ikkje he ae/ö/aa
Samuel Allen
Yeah but casual listens dont only know the hits regardless even for pop radio bullshit.
Joshua Morales
Neither of those composers is underrated. If a composer has multiple pops then he cannot even qualify for the shortlist of underrated composers.
Rimsky-Korsakov has 1. Schehezerade 2. Flight of the bumble bee meme 3. Trombone concerto he is still underrated.
Noah Price
further proof
Wyatt Rogers
I'm open to the possibility that he's underrated but I can think of a dozen composers that are completely overlooked and therefore more underrated
Nicholas Bell
>Shotstakovich
Kayden Turner
yes further proof that CLT memes are cancer.
Angel Harris
who is CLT
Connor Moore
the "further proof" "citation needed" and "not true btw" guy.
Colton Baker
>Le Le Boulanger meme No thank you
Blake Parker
>What? Women can't compose music. Muh sekrit club! No girls allowed!
Brayden Clark
agatha? OwO
Angel Davis
Women can compose. But you let women play peices by women. Let the real performers play men pieces. >the you will compose for an orchestra if qts only and bang all of them
I'm sure people have written about this at great length, but a lot of 20th and 21st century music affirms the baroque and classical legacy by prioritizing tonal exploration and experimentation over aesthetics. I think this is why Adorno favored the Second Viennese School over more aesthetic composers like Stravinsky and Varese?
Problem is that you can't make any money by being Boulez in 2017, so every composer spends most of their time teaching if they have any intention of being more interesting than Nico Muhly.
Owen Young
Its a Jewish thing
Lincoln James
Even if I was religious I'd never go to church for the music, they all sing the worst normie shit regardless of sect.
Juan Moore
wew
Brody Nguyen
why do people care about the opinion of that idiot Wiesengrund (Adorno) who couldnt even appreciate jazz music. what a phony son of a bitch
Or you could just listen to Telemann. His music is so bad it'll kill any interest you have in exploring baroque music further. Then you can listen to something good like Shostakovich instead.
Ethan Stewart
You're saying this just to rile up the anime baroque poster, aren't you?
Luis Johnson
>Shostakovich >good
Ryder Ward
name 2 things wrong with him
Jace Morgan
>ka meina du >oe e for dei me jalla-alfabet som ikkje he ae/ö/aa firstly, stop using your awkward dialect please, if you want to communicate second, the German "ö" represents the mid front rounded vowel, whereas the Norwegian "'o-slash'" usually represents the close-mid central rounded vowel, which are two different sounds.
David Robinson
I listened to Wagenseil today but I'm not sure too many other people did
Shostakovich was world's second greatest composer in the 50s-70s after Stravinsky
Jordan Reyes
Reminder that shit like Cage, Varese, Schoenberg, etc. are for pseudo-intellectual normies and that Neo-classical is real man's music.
Connor Martinez
The greatest composer of the 20th century
Luis Campbell
what's this bullshit? throw it away objectively speaking, most 20th century's avant-garde was "soy" baroque was too religious and exceedingly fervent. classicism couldn't be included as long as it was the music of aristocracy, i.e. a class of masters who were occupied with governing and the military. some of it sounded "nice" because that's what the elite class responsible for such activities as politics and war wanted to hear in their pastime. romanticism is closer, but still has an aristocratic streak in it modernism was harsh, it praised all things tht were previously considered tasteless - brutality, danger, war, machines, it clearly can't be included.
Jonathan Sullivan
What does Vaughan Williams have to do with this?
Michael White
>grab em by Debussy >not a Chad
Gavin Harris
>tfw ive listened to classical music to get to sleep every single night since i was 8 years old (now 25) >dont know shit about classical music
Cameron Ortiz
Don't you have that the wrong way around?
Shit no
Eh this is Sup Forums after all, we expect a bunch of people who can't into the usual well respected composers.
Samuel Morgan
they still need to be cut down
Samuel Hall
>Neo-classical a.k.a. sonic wallpaper for bottled water commercials
