I was born in Texas, grew up in Massachusetts, and want to move to back to Texas when I graduate college a year from now.
A friend of mine and I are thinking about working out living arrangements in Austin.
Is the economy as good as rumors say? I know what stats say about the Mexican population of Austin, but does anyone have firsthand information on what the political and social atmosphere of the city is?

Austin is really cool, but really expensive to live in. The traffic is mother-fucking-insane and is only getting worse due to the fact that 100 people a day are moving to the city from the rest of the country due to the "economy is amazing and city is amazing" rumors that spread all over.
Yes, its really cool, but I live in San Antonio and just drive 45 minutes north whenever I want to "experience Austin" and then drive back to my low traffic, low cost of living city that also has tons of jobs.... its just not as cool if you like doing random shit on week nights.

I would say move to Pflugerville in a nice suburb. Everything you could want is there or in a 10-15 mile radius and down town isn't far. You can get a fairly large house for a fair price and they're not all degenerate unless you're some stupid millennial or college students from UT. The Mexicans really aren't that bad and blacks aren't that large of the population unless you're closer to the city, in a bad part of town or on the east side. Heat is brutal though. I think Cedar Park is better personally but that's Wilco and they're serious cock sucking faggots. Also, be aware that if you live in a fairly nice location expect to pay 6grand a year in property taxes and HoA are cunts too.

I don't know if you would like san marcos. although compared to Austin its probably pretty nice. I lived there for a year and there were vatos everywhere. A student shot three during a home invasion I saw two police chases, and a womans van was stolen while she swam at the municipal pool. The most accurate representation of Austin I've ever seen on Sup Forums. I grew up in the oil patch of West Texas. Austin is way more fun but the downside is the attendant problems of any urban setting. Sure the people aren't as dumb as mining village bumpkins, but they mostly have their heads up their asses.
