80 years ago, in the 3rd republic, there was a rather funny situation when left parties didn't want women to have the right to vote because they feared that those votes would go to conservative parties. Now, at least in Spain, conservative parties (PP & PSOE) get a greater share of female voters than new/progressive ones (Podemos & C's).
