>Watch American "Godzilla" (2014) by Gareth Edwards >Godzilla comes out of the sea to fight a threat to mankind. Destroys some buildings and stuff in the process, but basically arrives to kick the living shit out of a superhuman force mankind didn't know how to protect itself from. >Mankind is left wondering if this giant monster is the savior of their species as he returns to the sea >Film is a fun romp as people get to watch Godzilla kick Kaiju ass and save humanity
>Watch Japanese "Shin Godzilla" (2016) by Hideaki Anno >Godzilla IS the superhuman force mankind doesn't know how to deal with >Shows up, fucks shit up, people try to fight back but don't know what the fuck to do >He's literally charging up his laser and tearing the shit out of stealth bombers in midair raping people left right and center >Eventually the only option to defeat him is nuking him, which means nuking Japan... again >Film is a tragedy that makes us consider the damage nuclear weapons have on the human race as well as making people think about international politics
I hate to admit it, but the American Godzilla was much fucking better in this day and age.
Because the original Gojira (1954) was an allegory for and commentary on nuclear savagery - the "superhuman force they don't know how to deal with" which returns to the ocean in the end, leaving a broken & paranoid society in its wake.
Then Americans took it and edited it to shit so it's just a monster movie. And after years of this being the idea of what Godzilla is, pop-culture has shifted to make you expect more of it. If anything, Shin Godzilla is a return to Gojira's roots.
2014 Godzilla showed us that we were incapable of saving ourselves. Godzilla stepped in as janitor of the Earth.
2016 Godzilla showed us that once we get our shit together, we're capable of taking down literal Titans. Granted, the victory entirely relied on Godzilla going into hibernation for like 2 months, but still.

>Why is Japan so depressed >[...]by Hideaki Anno
There's your answer. It's not the country, it's the guy. Anno's been pretty open about a long history of struggling with major depression.
Anthony Hall
Isn't the majority of the country virgins?
Alexander Harris
More like why do Americans NEED to have good guys and bad guys. Shin Gojira is just an unstoppable force of nature (because life finds a way etc.) and there's as much political commentary about nuclear bombs as there is about Japanese politicians being awful because they're trained to follow protocols and never think or stand out
Eli Evans
Pacific Rim put it nicely - to fight monsters, we created monsters of our own
Anthony Flores
Does anyone know if that 2016 screener is a full movie? Why the hell is it 20 minutes shorter than it should be? Where do I get the actual movie?
Ethan Allen
Where can I dl Anno's Godzilla?
Jose Foster
They say Anno fucks. I always assumed he was a loner, but Okada talked about Anno having a new girlfriend every week when in uni
Kevin Hill
>having a new girlfriend every week when in uni You think this is a good thing? Night stands are kewl and so Chad like? Obviously he cannot get together with a woman and only sees them as fuck meat.
Samuel Wright
Funny because Godzilla 2014 was a very dark movie by current American standards.
Dylan Carter
>only sees them as fuck meat Well Anno always was a smart man
Colton Gomez
This is why you people will always be alone.

Was King Caesar the GOAT of the showa era?

>people actually take OP's post seriously
the fuck is wrong with you guys
Dylan Stewart
>you people RACIST BITCH
Joshua Richardson
The fuck are you talking about, 2016 Godzilla was all about the power of human ingenuity and how a nation of people can gather together to it's defense against a common foe.
2014 Godzilla was just a superhero film that followed someone else who happened to be following the hero for 80% of the movie.
Elijah Sanchez
Hey, so why does Asian Americans want more representation in movies? I haven't come across any asians who express that they want to be actors nor go to the movies that much for that matter but still many wants representation.
