But who would Obi-Wan even have fucked? That mandalor queen? Were he and Satine more than just good friends?

Obi-Wan had way more years of training than Anakin, as well as the high ground. Genetically he's just not at the same level.

Luke had negligible training compared to the Jedi Masters before him and held his own against Vader. He is very gifted and it looks to be down to his heritage.

He developed quickly, but not like Rey. Even after presumably practicing over a gap of a few years it took active concentration to call the lightsaber to him in Empire Strikes Back. We see him struggle with it on Dagobah.

She's a child of Luke and Leia. After RotJ Luke wanted to restore jedi order, in order to do that he needed potent students. He knew that if two force-sensitive people would have a child, his or hers midihlorian count would be out the charts. He talked Leia into it, Han probably agreed but couldn't bear the shame after the deal fell through.
Eventually the public found out and they had to leave Rey on Jaku.
That's why Leia has to "lead the rebels" instead of being in a senate(it was a political suecide) and why Han left her.

the new trilogy is approaching the dark side from a different point of view than the prequels for example. prequels showed that trying to save your loved ones or follow your passions would lead you to the dark side. luke's order is different and so is the mentality, whereas kylo is now struggling with trying to embrace a more insidious dark side rather than the more grey and reasonable jedi way

Since people still don't know, I'll remind you. The Jedi Massacre and Luke's subsequent disappearance only happened a mere 6 years before TFA. Rey was on Jakku a long time before that happened. Whatever happened to her, it has nothing to do with Kylo's massacre.

Rey Palpatine is literally the only interesting answer. Rey Solo is dead, Rey Skywalker doesn't fit the timeline, character assassinates Luke, and is the laziest possible story choice. Rey Kenobi seems like wishful thinking.

Rey Palpatine explains her power and would suggest strong struggle with the dark side in Rey's future. It would give her great contrast with Kylo Ren, as she is a good person from bad origins and he is a bad person from good origins. It will further hammer home that preoccupation with your bloodline does nothing but harm, and only your decisions matter. It would throw big tension into the plot.

It's the best twist.

I think that might be part of it. I think it's also that, after six movies and being a very popular franchise for nearly forty years, those basic displays of the Force have lost some of their wonder and the screenplay had a casual attitude toward them as a result. The entire movie has an irritating self-awareness to it that undermines its impact.

It's less like a story and more like a guided tour. She can do that stuff because it's Star Wars and people expect that stuff now. The lightsaber calls to her (even though it never called to Luke despite it being his fucking dad's) because she's the protagonist and we know Ewan McGregor's voice. Rey casually remembers the Force is a thing like she's also conscious of the fact she's in a Star Wars movie.

Rey's competence might be something they set up for development in the story later, but it wouldn't surprise me at all of it was just a semi-unintended result of the attitude that pervades the rest of the movie.
