This shot shows you an average American family

You either get it or you don't.

I'm amazed that Harmony Korine wasn't involved with this giant sack of emptiness.

Worthless humanity is omnipresent.

>I'm amazed that Harmony Korine wasn't involved with this giant sack of emptiness.

That's what your mom said when you were born.

just shut up.

I just don't know what I was supposed to get. Kids like to sing along to their iTunes in a cramped van?

You sound like every 14 year old ever born.

She is pretty cute in a trashy sort of way

>female director

>People who don't get it.

RICED

Everything Andrea Arnold has ever made is terrible. She exists to fill a particular market niche.

Main character was nothing but a fuck hole.

I hated this movie too user.

Not attractive at all. Not even slightly.

Dirty, skanky, unpleasant, tattoed cunt.

It's also Lena Dunhams favourite movie

>Both the kids need glasses
is it for the look or is it really that bad?

I found this kind of lifestyle appealing about five years ago. It gets old. We all get old. That's what kids today don't seem to understand.

i dont even get how selling magazine subscriptions is in anyway profitable or generate any money

>make well-shot movie with unknown actors giving good performances and Shia killing it as usual
>get positive reviews

You don't have to find the lifestyle appealing to like the movie. Hell, I thought it looked fucking horrible, still liked the film

this is the world we live in. we're supposed to celebrate decadence and poverty instead of advocating improvement and enlightenment

Yeah, that was weird

You're not enlightened. You're just boring.

>we're supposed to celebrate decadence and poverty
More like freedom and youth. And not so much celebrate but rather observe.

go take your valtrex

>Bears in ND

Looks phony as fuck lol

t. Holden

Spring Breakers did it better

It does though

>critique of America t. Obese bong feminist

Might as well play GTA III

Go take your Cialis, grandpa.

You haven't even seen it, so piss off.

Babby mad?

I'll only bother with it whenever I feel like watching shit but for that i have my toilet which is better than Andrea Arnold's filmography

Garbage movie OP. I've been waiting for someone else to bring this up. You can make pretentious drivel look good, but this just looked like a college level film. Really surprised Shia and Riley Keough got involved with this one. Retarded characters, completely misrepresents the south (literally no one sells magazines door to door or has a weird rat tail like that).

basically an indie movie for teenagers. not sure if even a movie though

>ur old lol
go have another "empowering" gangbang you degenerate

Fuck. The shaky cam in Anthropoid was un-fucking-bearable with the jump cuts. Is this like that?

Unauthentic shit as I presumed

>A24

Into the trash

Actually Millennials have less sex than any other generation since 1920s.

>American movie directed by Brit
>female director
D R O P P E D

ONLY WATCHED IT CUZ OF SHIA DESU

maybe, but they sure talk about, publicise, aggrandise and celebrate it a lot more

>Shia Labeouf

Well fuck son, dropped before i even picked it up.

There's not much jump-cutting, but it's pretty much all handheld, yeah.

This is something worth making a movie about, the way that the sixties 'revolution' basically made sex an elite possession while pretending to liberate it, cf. Houellebecq.

Pleb. Shia is /ourguy/

It can't be stressed enough that Andrea Arnold is a pointless director. A disingenuous British kitchen-sink Larry Clark - could anything be less appealing?

No, he's a pretentious malignant twat.

He looks like the underside of his chin reeks.

people who didn't like this movie didn't have this kind of fun as teenagers and young people

No, I had this kind of fun as a teenager, I just wouldn't have the gall to write up 90 mins worth of my teenage adventures with no structure and ask people for money to film it. I also wonder if she's going for that audience who do like stuff that reminds them of themselves when they were younger - like those sad old wanks who still care about 'the spirit of punk'.

Yeah I guess I wasn't talking about the movie. It's probably good for all I know. Haven't seen it. This just prompted me to think about that.

Again, not criticizing the movie. Just about the fact that some of the young people I know seem to be setting themselves up for a lifetime of this, and swear that that is what they really want, when I went through that, and it is something you grow out of.

This is true. The really troubling part is all the booze and drugs.

>like those sad old wanks who still care about 'the spirit of punk'.

You mean Gavin McInnes?

They wouldn't need the booze and drugs if they were getting laid.

Rather, I think the booze and drugs are just replacing everything else, which is a slippery slope. The combined effect of all the shit they put in themselves is going to be seriously fucking them up when they hit the tender age of 30-something.

Well then they'll grow out of it too

Even in the movie when asked about their dreams the characters want to do something different

It's not that serious man, this movie isn't like some bible converting all kids to hedonism and debauchery, it's a fun couple of hours about young people being young and dumb

Literally this. Ever wonder where do diners and retail stores get their employees. Well you now know.

I asked one of those nice folks about his future. What happens when you hit your late 20's. He just shrugged it off and told me to stop being so nerdy.

Freedom spirituality is pretty. Then it ends. Life goes on much like everything else

Exactly.

Yeah, but not without setting themselves up for a shitty life and an uphill battle to a semblance of stability first. I know from first hand experience. I try to tell them, but none of them ever listen. Arrogant, stubborn little shits.

>Even in the movie when asked about their dreams the characters want to do something different
Everyone wants to buy a house somewhere in the woods, it's pretty weird. Even though they all seemed the least suited to doing that, personality wise. I think that's one of the things that shows the weakness of the improv style

Yeah dude the world needs people working in diners

Why are you so hung up on where young people end up, they can make their own decision and wear the consequences
Live a little

t. Xu

Why do you care

They've gotta learn themselves and find out themselves

It's called life
You're not responsible for them mate, Why not just save yourself the stress

that type of slave labor should be automated away. You're wrong, no one should have to live that way.

>Make pretentious movie about youths living a degenerate and "muh millenial freedom" lifestyle

Millennials are actually nowhere near as degenerate as boomers and Gen X were. They don't have sex as much and generally don't do as much drugs

Dude the kids in the movie all had terrible upbringings and ended up in the van through no fault of their own

Seems silly to paint all young people with the same judgemental brush

Lol what? Dude with menial jobs like that, you get to people watch, it's low commitment and stress, and it gives you something to do and keeps you out of trouble
They're fine

It's a film that fixates on the hipster millennial post-beat generation mindset of salvation through a nomadic, uncertain and perilous lifestyle. Pretty much On the Road set in a modern age. They ended the film with "God's Whisper" by Raury-- if you want to see a synopsis for this film you can just watch the music video and you've pretty much gotten the message.

youtu.be/bPt0LkdM8Bc

It's uncertain, and it's meant to represent the lost that refuse to succumb to what appears as order that dulls youth. Their life in that van is as close to "young money" and lavish, young lifestyles while being in a sexual prime as those kids were going to get. And to be honest, there's something romantic about that.

That being said, the characters are fucking cringe and the only reason I watched this shit was because Shia gave a pretty dope interview for Variety about it. 6.5/10 for me.

Well, the (real) kids I'm talking about all had good upbringings and are in the situations they are in because they glorify this.

Because they then blame their shitty life choices onto working people. Because they default on their credit card debt they had from buying more booze, cheap at that one, munchies for weed and iPhones making them to retort to welfare. Welfare which comes from the result of hard working people giving their earned money to pay. But the welfare ends. Then they will just go and vote for any conman who gives them more gibsmedats.

They do not challenge or oversmart their superiors yet believe themselves to be free spirits. They shame anyone who happens to think differently than them yet claim to be open minded. They mock actual artistic integrity and indulge with manchild entertainment and pop music yet call themselves artists. They feed poppy communist arrogance by parroting their make-believe ideologies they mistake as politics.

Sure some of them can wear their consequences and fuck off from this planet. Just don't go around crying about faux racial privilege or superstitious beliefs.

I 'lived a little' once. Didn't take it long for me to realize about how repulsive it was

so i just marathoned this, not mememing this fucking thing was long and boring.

If I liked Into The Wild will I like this?

Why do you guys hate her so much?

Fish Tank was ok.

Fast and Furious is more your speed

>projecting this hard
>being this bitter

You must lead a pretty powerless-esque life.

The film is just a bunch of kids from terrible situations emerging in a culture that glamorizes shit that they never even had the opportunity to want to have. Have a dream to master an instrument, go to college? Mommy stole your money for drugs.

It's very easy to criticize the lost for their lack of direction when you're privileged. Kids like that don't have people to lead them and beat them and care, so they figure they might as well live whatever mimicry of what they hear on the radio or see on TV now with the other disenfranchised to the fullest that they can, while they can. They've been stripped of vision.

Welfare is a concept that ideally Can give some back, but it's not a good enough substitute. Just funds complacency. But writing off entire generations of people is fucking dumb. You can never really know what possibly brilliant minds are being lost to shitty situations.

>bitter old man: the post

If you know how to look at it
It's less advice and more social commentary through roundabout grungy storytelling

I don't like those movies either, nobody should be happy about wasting three hours of their life on a movie where nothing interesting happens.

>Oh woe woe woe kids these days!
>The tide! The dismal tide!
Leave the gas on in the car grandad.

the bear scene was ridiculous and unnecessary.

still, 10/10 flick

GET OUT OF MY FUCKING CITY REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

most retarded movies are always the ones where "something important" happens

The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.

I was talking about actual degenerates. Not tweens with crappy upbringings like this movie depicts.

>It's very easy to criticize the lost for their lack of direction when you're privileged. Them not having any sort of authority doesn't validate their miscalculated choices. You're using the same logic criminal defenders often use for petty criminals. 'Poor things, they weren't privileged or had opportunity hence why their acts are nothing but acts of a directionless life. You just don't see it because you're privileged '.

Not having any guidance doesn't prevent you from avoiding certain lifestyle.

>Welfare is a concept that ideally Can give some back, but it's not a good enough substitute. Just funds complacency. But writing off entire generations of people is fucking dumb. You can never really know what possibly brilliant minds are being lost to shitty situations.

Welfare eventually leads to laziness. Laziness leads to inefficiency. It's egoistical at its core. I'm entitled to food and housing just because. More socialism is not the answer. And I'm not writing off entire generations of people. Sure there are always exceptions to the rule. This case in particular is devoid of generalization. If they were so brilliant in the first place, why did they choose to waste their lives for trite escapism? Because the radio said it so?

only because the greater number of autists and shut-ins (enabled by the internet) drag the average down.

Your inability to emphasize restricts you from understanding just what it means to be underprivileged.

If you had a time machine and kidnapped baby Mozart and placed him in a Sudanese orphanage, we would not have the requiem. His father and the general nature of his upbringing was directly responsible for his actualization.

You can do this with literally anyone. That's the idea. They don't have a chance, they don't have the access, they don't have the support system. As I said, it's easy to criticize when just you having the ability to post on Sup Forums in your free time places you in the top 1% of the world. You can't know what it means to genuinely have nothing in a world that does not care for you.

May I ask, are you a nigger or redneck? Who else would find that existence appealing?

>Welfare eventually leads to laziness.

>someone on Sup Forums whining about the laziness of others.

The only thing Michel was right about was the bitter pathos expressed by those missing out.

>For me, the shock was quite painful; the dream of all men is to meet little sluts who are innocent but ready for all forms of depravity - which is what, more or less, all teenage girls are. Then, gradually, the girls quiet down thus condemning men to remain eternally jealous of their depraved pasts as little sluts. To refuse to do something because you've already done it, because you've already been there, rapidly leads to the destruction, for yourself as much as for others, of any reason for living, for any possible future, and it plunges you into an oppressive ennui that will eventually transform into atrocious bitterness, accompanied by hatred and rancor toward those who still belong to the land of the living.

The Possibility of an Island.

Really makes you think, huh

no one is "missing out" on getting an sti and stroking their own ego by declaring themselves "liberated," "empowered" or some sort of "free spirit" because they fuck strangers

you're an easy lay. that's it. it's not impressive, it's not remarkable, it's not profound, it's not worthy of respect or celebration. you're not a rebel, a maverick, or whatever special individual you want to believe yourself; you're just a slut, a whore, a hole.

do what you will. just shut the fuck up about it

Lmao is that really supposed to be an insult? You sound like a catty effeminate bitch mad that I never returned her calls

I'm perfectly aware of how 'privileged' I am. No need to reduce everything to emotional appeal.

If, and you're dealing with ifs here not substantial evidence, Mozart would have been deprived from every factor of his success, someone else like him would have succeeded in his place.

As I've said before, them being deprived of any privilege whatsoever doesn't justify their wrongdoings.

>le you're in Sup Forums XD

Sure but that doesn't make me lazy. I do all my homework, all of my chores and I hate inactivity. I just happen to have the time to attend this board. Now go cry somewhere else, degenerate

You won't be missed.

>implying people here watch movies

>>make every character unlikable

Why are people faulting movies for being realistic in this fashion?

>As I've said before, them being deprived of any privilege whatsoever doesn't justify their wrongdoings.

Free will doesn't exist. Everyone is a product of their environment. Repercussions still need to exist to maintain order though, but to deny this truth simply serves to perpetuate the problem.

Also
>I do all my homework, chores, and hate inactivity

Are you fucking 12??? Jesús Christ you don't even have a job do you

He was right about the sixties 'revolution' too. Our society has been destroyed for the benefit of a few.
