Sometimes I wish I was a NEET so I could learn language all day. I wonder if there is a diminishing return though, like if you go over a certain amount of hours where it starts to not be as productive.

Made myself a cafetiere of coffee so I can do some late studying.
Reckon I'll start with my flashcards then go into some grammar exercises.

Yes. But at least the ebook would be only 40 euros :^)

Probably. Add on, intensive language studies also vary the content throughout a day. So you wouldn't do 8 hours of grammar, but you'd do some grammar, some vocab, listenin exercises, writing exercises, other stuff I guess.

yeah I'm a neet and I just spend all my time on Sup Forums and wanking

Why don't you do like 8 hours of intensive language study and model it after something like said?

russian chat

not that guy, but I think I would get burnt out pretty easy lol

I used to do 4 hours every day, but now I've just sunk too deep into the procrastination hole and I can't get out
I should honestly just throw my laptop in the bin

wtf I love Mari superstitions now

Anyone know of any good German language learning podcasts? I'd like something to fall asleep to.

sounds like what happened here kek

Can somebody explain the grammar behind the "white people be like" kind of construction

Most times I've seen it used it really means "white people say"
White people be like salt and pepper are spices
White people say (or think, I suppose) salt and pepper are spices
It's slang so it doesn't really follow proper English grammar rules or conventions.

Out of curiosity, how do you organize your study time?

It also follows the more general "X be Y" construction, meaning X is usually doing Y.
>my young niggaz be gettin that dough
>he be workin hard

Then, you add the American "I was like" which means "I said" to that, and you get "X be like Y", i.e. "X often says Y", or "it is habitual for X to say Y"
>White people be like "salt and pepper are spices"

not a native speaker of Ebonics so feel free to correct my analysis

It's the habitual be.

>Habitual be is the use of an uninflected be in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and Caribbean English to mark habitual or extended actions, in place of the Standard English inflected forms of be, such as is and are. In AAVE, use of be indicates that an entity repeatedly does an action or embodies a trait. In Standard English, the use of (an inflection of) be merely conveys that an individual has done an action in a particular tense, such as in the statement "She was singing" (the habitual being "she sings").

Has someone done the CAE? Is it hard to get C2 for an autist that has been browsing imageboards for years?

has anyone' derp. Good night.

there you go

Is there any point of me learning a new language? Everyone dpeaks english to some degree...

Yeah but how are you going to make the German news if you can't shitpost about kikes in german?

Makes traveling easier. Plus there are general benefits to your brain from learning a second language.
It'll also look good on your resume.

no they don't

Are there any German textbooks that follow a similar format to Genki (for Japanese)?

tfw 260 exp on Duolingo today, listened to 1 Pimsleur lesson, and watched 2 episodes of Spongebob in German with no subs

a-am I doing ok /lang/?

how much did you understand of the spongebob episodes?

Why is lam written twice in "allah" when the shadda shows that a consonant should be pronounced long?

it might just be a fossilized spelling, but i don't know too much about arabic.

Spanish is an excellent language, easy to learn, girls find it attractive, you can consume a ton of media in it.
Chinese is you get to speak with insufferable chinamen

Tый мapлa oйлaceт?

It's slang, nothing more, meant to portray what a certain group often does in that case. If I were you, I'd understand it just so you know how to avoid it, because most people who fall into that trap often sound like they're fucking stupid when they speak like that, though no one says anything because they don't want to come off like an asshole.

I don't know of books, however there's an abundance of Youtube channels for learning German, such as „Deutsch lernen mit Herrn Antrim“, or „Deutsch für euch“.

B2 level German, using it to hopefully attain A1 level Japanese. Nothing like using a 2nd language to practice a 3rd.

God forbid you know about unsophisticated, lower register vernacular right?
Don't think yours is a productive attitude towards languages. Even if the user from Chile might never find himself in a situation where he'd say that, it's perfectly valid to try to understand the construction. There's nothing inherently "fucking stupid" about the habitual be either.

فارسی بلدید؟

Understood, form that is improper can be. However, stupid and difficult to easily comprehend it often is also. Thus, the use of such language, be encouraged, it should not - but corrected instead.

>you can consume a ton of media in it.
Better learn French and read a well-written book. Stop consuming shite.

Bump because i want this thread to live but i don't have anything interesting to say

The hardest part to language learning is fucking motivation.

Tips?

>motivation
If you're not motivated, don't do it. Spend your time doing something you're motivated to do.

that's not at all how life works. KYS

Depends on your reason for doing something, big guy.

Shadda does not indicate a 'long pronunciation', but a doubled consonant.

'Allah' should really be 'al-lahu' meaning 'the-god', and since the definite article is joined immediately to its word, there is then a doubled 'l', which is marked with a shadda.

The alif maqsura (the upward stroke marked '6' in your diagram) shows that the 'a' vowel after the second lam is long, not the shadda.

You mean discipline.

Make sure you're reading a lot. Depending on the language you're learning, there are loads of good basic readers with good and funny stories that motivate you to study.

What language are you trying to learn?

>What language are you trying to learn?
Drum and bass

Wouldn't it be better if you asked people on Sup Forums?

I hate cases

its a meme

Not sure about the white people part, but "be like" isn't. That's how uneducated blacks actually talk.

Love how you can learn a completely new career faster than a language. wew lad

Start with the Deep Medi Label and Hospital Records. The translations will come together with time.

Wahre worte wurden gesprochen

What's the difference between the conversational pimsleurs and regular ones?

I think conversational is more for "I'm going to Italy and I want to learn a bit of Italian before I go" versus the regular is "I want to learn Italian"

So does a shadda not go over one consonant and say that it should be pronounced as if it was doubled, but rather go over 2 doubled consonants so you know what's up?

Any recommended resources for learning past tense in Spanish? I know there are two types, Duolingo kinda just throws one (the main one?) at you without much of an explanation other than a blurb on the web version. SpanishDict is equally shit.

It's mainly memorizing when you use one vs the other since the conjugations are pretty regular, especially the imperfect.

Thank you. So I should start with maybe learning the conjugations for preterite, and then imperfect, then try to use Duolingo again and see if I get it more? I guess I'm trying to figure out a logical order to approach it.

I can't really advise on the method since I learned it in school.

You should look out for how the spelling of a word changes when it's conjugated to the preterite in the first person. Since verbs in the first person preterite often end with an -e, if it ends with a -go in the first person present and is an ar verb it will become -gué instead of gé so that the spelling matches the pronunciation.

For example,

cagar-cagué

Oh boy this is going to be a process.

Learn Russian or German?
German seems to be pretty easy aside from memorizing genders.

I forgot to bring my ear buds to work today. I have a pair of headphones with me but it's 96 degrees in the Greenhouse where I work and steadily rising. It's too fucking hot to wear headphones all day.
Language learning is suffering

Whichever you have the strongest preference towards. Is there any kind of media you like from either country?

You growing pot?

If only... It's mostly eucalyptus and teak with some chestnuts

>growin plants in a sauna

Incoming dumb question: A greenhouse with full size trees? I thought trees were grown outside? Teak and chestnut at least are trees I thought, and eucalyptus are those smaller ones?

You must get a lot of language learning during the day if you can wear headphones, huh?

>he doesn't have a tree sauna office

>implying latin is sophisticated and isnt easy as fuck to learn

For research purposes you can grow trees inside a greenhouse for their first few years. I'm handling saplings. They're about four or five years old at this point. Although there are some bigger trees in here but I think they're mostly for decoration at this point
And yeah I'm the only person in these specific greenhouses so I tend to listen to music or practice my language all day. It's kind of nice but it's still really fucking hot

remembr to stey hidratted.

Thanku

So what's your study plan for today, /lang/?

Flashcards and grammar exercises, followed by some podcasts before bed.
Maybe I'll shove in some grammar study too, but I'm just trying to practice what I 'know' for the moment.

my plan is to jack off to porn of boys from my target language's country (Germany).

this counts as studying r-right?
no homo

>followed by some podcasts before bed.
are you advanced enough to actually understand a substantial amount without having to focus too hard, or is it just passive listening for the sounds of the language?

I'm just listening to language learning podcasts, it's pretty basic stuff. It follows a story, followed by analysis at the end.

Of course it's not homo, it's just for language study

Add another irregular verb to my conjugation deck, try and finish the spanish tree since I have a lot of free time today.

Half a chapter of Lingua Latina, copied out in writing while making references to a Latin dictionary

Also some revision on who/what/where/when/why

How do people do Pimsleur while driving? I find it too distracting and I miss a lot of the lesson. Too bad since I have a long commute.

Finish learning the alphabet.

Whilst driving sounds shit. Walking, sure, but driving seems bad. Unless part of your commute is like a guaranteed 30 minute traffic jam.

Pimsleur and podcasts while at work then some Duolingo and flashcards when I get home. Trying to focus on the future tense today.

Nothing special today, just getting over the fact that I literally don't understand anything in the telegram rus chat
I want to try to write some kind of short story in Russian tomorrow, say 200 words

>Lingua Latina
Ah, so you did end up using it

How are you finding it so far?

Where do you niggers start with learning a language? Do you follow any specific outline, just learn topics as they come up or what you feel like doing when the time comes?
