Why did so many people hate it? It was well filmed and well acted, especially William, and the plot being a slow burn is actually a good thing in my opinion, as i got it horror by reading my father's Poe collection.

Could we have some discussion about it? I'm interested to know what exactly people didn't like.

Sup Forums liked it at first, then it became popular on reddit, so now we hate it

Sup Forums does like it. We talk about it all the time.

>became popular on reddit, so now we
Shut the fuck up retarded 90's born faggot. Plenty of people on Sup Forums like the movie

I'll have you know that I've hated it from the get go and you're all jumping on my bandwagon.

Oh, i meant people in general not restricted to Sup Forums

>tfw no ayylmao gf
;_;

kill yourself we fag

That young form of the Witch that corrupted the boy was hot as fuck

It's not for everyone. I love that time period and setting, so seeing it brought to life so well made me really enjoy it, but I can see why some might find it boring/anticlimactic.

I think when films are critically acclaimed they tend to draw audiences that won't necessarily appreciate or have the temperament for the subject matter at hand, and that tends to produce a lot of the "overrated"-type complaints.

I saw it with my 47 cougar gf. It was a pretty okay movie until the ending. The twins needed to die earlier

Who hated it?

No one can legitimately call it a bad movie, you don’t have to like it but there is no argument for why it's bad other than "I don't like the ending, I would prefer it this or that way" or if you are offended by some reason by the ideologies of the new england folk tales.

Every filmmaking element is brilliantly executed, from the production design and cinematography to the performances and dialogue.

...

...

has she been blacked?

>Why did so many people hate it?
Normies hated it because it challenged their viewing habits. Special contrarian snowflakes on here hated it because people were praising it here somewhat and enjoying it.

shame about the ass, would have been 10/10 otherwise

Fuck off nigger or cuck or whatever filthy piece of human garbage you are.

>we
Stop posting, you dumb faggot.

>Who hated it?
Faggots who think horror movies are just saw or the paranormal movies.

...

>Every filmmaking element is brilliantly executed, from the production design and cinematography to the performances and dialogue
Yeah, my thoughs exactly, but everyone i know keeps shouting how it sucked without giving any real explanation

Kill yourself user.

>the RReddit

MMMMMMMMMmmmm mmmm yummo wow look at that you can just about see her pusy

thanks for the posts im saving htem

Usually repress the "everyone else didn't get it" response in myself but I can't help but feel 90% of the people that didn't like this movie just couldn't follow the dialogue...

>but everyone i know keeps shouting how it sucked without giving any real explanation
Perhaps you should stop hanging around fucking retards.

Lol. Someone sounds insecure. :^)

Get better friends.

are your jimmies rustled?

One of the few times where looking up that hot minor role actress actually paid off with 10/10 lewds

I don't understand why people like it. If what you mean by "slow-burn" is that nothing happens for 90% then sure; but that's not interesting in the least. Also, the last bit is just dumb gore. It's the ultimate pseudo horror flick that's meant for Redditors who repeat buzz-words like "atmosphere" and "jump-scares are bad"

It's a reddit classic.
Why is it not real horror you might ask?
Because it's just a period drama marketed as a horror movie !
It's not scary at all, it's just drama and nothing more. It is reddit horror

Why did so many people hate it?

Because of their preconcieved expectations of what this "horror" film should be like.

Horror has come to such shit it is considered as a separate thing from film.
Like when you go to see a horror, the majority of the audience judges the movies completely different from an action/thriller/drama. It's like all the movie elements dissapear and the only measurement of quality of the movie is how many times you got "spooked". It's almost like a ride, not a movie for them.
The studio had to market The Witch as a "scare" horror movie so more people would see, and when they actually see it they don't care about the family relations and character development and the production design etc, they just want to get some loud noises after a few seconds of silence every now and then.

It's really interesting. And really really sad.

>just couldn't follow the dialogue
English is not my first language so i had to turn subtitles on.

>Every filmmaking element is brilliantly executed, from the production design and cinematography to the performances and dialogue.

Dialogue that no one understands. It has dull and cheap looking cinematography. If you think the cinematography is "brilliantly executed" in the Witch, you watch too many Vimeo videos. Also, what production design? It's mostly in one location.

They are constantly setting up the last act with every word of dialogue that is spoken. A baby is ritually sacrificed in the first 30 minutes. A shape shifting seductress abducts the boy and possesses him. How many more jump scares would you have added?

Why even bother watching it with that kind of attitude? Why watch anything?

...

But things did happen. We slowly get to see the family get torn apart by supernatural events until the very end when Satan reveals himself.

This bait gets better everytime i see it

ZzzzzzZZZZzzzZZzz

I had more fun watching Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, then that meaningless trash

I remember checking her imdb out but never saw those pics

The English they are using is pretty archaic, enough to make it difficult for some native speakers too. There are also a lot of expressions that are specific to the period or the Calvanist religion.

If you paid any attention in high school the dialogue and references should not have been hard to understand. This is basic Puritan religious stuff they're discussing.

>Dialogue that no one understands.
I understood it, as did the person who I went with.
> It has dull and cheap looking cinematography.
Its narrative is confined to a farmhouse in the woods, it doesn't need to be sweeping. Also, I found its drabness added to the atmosphere, but that's just my opinion.

who hates this movie? I haven't seen anyone in my normal day to day activities.

I mean, It's an actually well made and researched movie in the Horror genre.
it is alone in that regard.
it has NOTHING to even compete with

>Babby's first movie

>who hates this movie
Contrarians on Sup Forums, as evidenced by this thread.

>Dialogue that no one understands.
So you don’t watch foreign films I presume?

>It has dull and cheap looking cinematography.
"Good" cinematography isn't just empty pretty vibrant pictures but actually telling the story using visual narrative through framing and composition, which The Witch did exactly.
Also it was a fresh and original take on the genre with the look and the unique aspect ratio which makes the interior scenes more claustrophobic and perfect elongated shots of the forest in the exterior scenes.
I don't understand your "cheap" point, maybe watch better bluray encodes.

>Also, what production design? It's mostly in one location.
Please google what is production design and stop embarassing yourself.
The director is a former head of production design and it's nearly autisticly perfect in The Witch

Yes, the revisionist history of 90's born faggots upsets me a lot.

>Dialogue that no one understands

Seems to be the case

Contrarians are the ones who like this shit movie.
>hurr jumpscares are bad therefore the witch is the best evur!

Give me one actual valid argument why it's a shit movie with no buzzwords please
