the one where you die

Does anyone have an Essential /SouthKorea/ Core list? I've already seen the Oldboy and OP, what are some other films?

Memories of Murder and Mr Vengeance are the best Korean movies I've seen.

Haven't seen much, but MoM combines comedy and serious drama better than any other movie I've ever seen.

Mother

Let's talk South Korean porn instead. Which one's your favorite?

Kino Tier:
Oldboy, Memories of Murder, Mother, JSA, The Handmaiden, Thirst

Great flick tier:
New World, Mr Vengeance, Lady Vengeance, Train to Busan

Decent flick Tier:
The Wailing, The Man from nowhere

Mediocre genre flick tier:
The Host, I saw the Devil, A Bittersweet life

Films I watched on an airplane that no one else has seen tier:
The Secret files, The Shameless.

신세계 is a close second

I don't know why but I love The Host. Always loved the monster design

>The Host
Didn't like it. I loved Memories of Murder, and Mother was pretty great too.

Is this The man From Nowhere? I downloaded it yesterday but it turned out to be the dubbed version

The yellow sea is 10/10

I watch anything with Lee Beom-soo in it.

Every time someone posts about MoM, I want to rewatch it.

The Admiral: Roaring Currents also deserves a mention.

Mother, Thirst
haven't seen that many

The Host is Kino or at least Great flick tier if you are Korean and understand all the references and cultural nods. it is very satirical and has elements of a modern day comedy of manners.

...

>it is very satirical and has elements of a modern day comedy of manners.
I guess I missed all of that. Can you give me a rundown?

...

The OPs post is the essential list. Once this South Korean fad dies nobody will remember all the other b-movie revenge trash.

the host is awful, acting is fine but plot and dialog are so bad

Attack the Gas Station is pretty good

Very entry level

Korea kino that no one talks about in these threads

This was a goddamn masterpiece of erotic kino

it was good but a little too long

desu castaway on the moon is my favorite

A Girl At My Door is never mentioned but it was pretty good.

why are they obsessed with revenge?

>tfw watching the 50fps version

Can't believe this guy was the son from Mother lol

is attack the gas station 2 good as well?

this is actually really funny, I think Kang song ho is funny in all the movies he is in

i like the one where the pimp goes after a serial killer. always forget its name

...

uncut when

The Wailing is Kino

Why do they only end badly?

The Yellow Sea was pretty great till the mid part, then it got pretty stupid.

The Chaser

>wishing stairs
>whispering corridors
>memento mori
>the theives
>essential

>i'm a cyborg but that's ok
>no tears for the dead
>not essential

other than that it's a pretty decent list

is Miracle in Cell Number 7 really a must see? It's never brought up in these threads and I've only ever heard it mentioned by a westernized Korslut.

Why are even the bad ones, good?

>zero mentions of Cruel History of Maljuk Street

That's a cool little duck.

Not mentioned yet:

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
Breathless
Bad Guy
3-Iron
Bedevilled
Friend
Once Upon a Time in High School
Time

>Once Upon a Time in High School
ahem
pleb

Different to be fair

>Once Upon a Time in High School
Weakest on the list for sure but there is something charming in its simplicity, imo.

Is that some kind of mole?

That exists?
Thought it was illegal.

Examples? I also thought that it seemed just like a monster film.
I expected some great twist but there really wasn't one. Do I really have to have such a knowledge of Korean culture to truly appreciate it?

I'm watching this right now. It's like South Korean A Few Good Men

Never seen anyone talk about this, its pretty good.

I flew on a Korean Air flight a few months ago and watched a movie about four friends who go on some kind of vacation as young men (Japan, I think?) and they see some guy beating up his girlfriend so they try to stop him and end up killing him or something. They end up getting interrogated by the police but that's all I really remember.

Then I watched one about some star prosecutor who ended up in prison with all the people he put away. Anyone remember the name of that?

And I vaguely remember a bit of a movie that was about a guy who lied about all his success (going to a nice school and shit) and ended up getting found out by his fiancée's family and somehow involved the politicians of Korea or something.

Anyone know the name of these?

>The good, the bad and the weird
I don't understand the appeal for this film
I watched half of it and got bored and wasn't interested in finding out what will happen

whats so great about it?

Green Chair from 2005 is erotic cougarkino. Was pleasantly surprised by the happy ending

Korean movies don't exist before Oldboy, silly user

>Kino Tier:
>Oldboy, Memories of Murder, Mother, JSA, The Handmaiden, Thirst

yOU puT i sAW THE dEVIL FIRSt ThEn U go KIL urSElF

if you haven't seen Barking dogs never bite then you don't deserve Koreakino

>no mention of crying fist

come on

These threads are always just the same 100 movies being recommended over and over again.

The one set in a hotel room, filmed with a static shot, where the guy is on top of the skinny girl with black hair and it ends in less than 10 minutes.

Pieta is legit 10/10.

The good the bad the weird

this had all the feels I wanted

thoughts on this one? it had the potential, it could've been funnier but it wasn't
