Can the average European tell the difference between American English accents? To native speakers, the Southern Accent sounds "dumb" and I was wondering if you get the same impression.

southern accent doesn't sound dumb, it's only americans that associate a southern drawl with being lower class due to social stigma
southern american accent a cute
foreigners love the south
Northern accents are whiny, nasal, and pretty much unbearable for long periods.
Southern accents sound a little 'dumb', but they have novelty enough to be pleasing. And they're not nasal.
PS. Here, this is great.
>To native speakers, the Southern Accent sounds "dumb"
It sounds dumb to you because that's what you associated it with, probably because of your media.
We are able to tell the difference, yes.

Northern accent sounds retarded and absolutely disgusting, mid southern or top southern is best.
I can only tell apart the really obvious ones... like Eastern New England English, Southern, and North Central. Midland, Western, and Inland Northern all sound the same to me.
The further away from niggers and northerners the better the accent.
Of course hollywood has really pushed the southern redneck stereotype so we know about that one. Personally I struggle to find a favorite, but I'm not a fan of the southern accent. I think the plain, most generic American accent works the best, don't give me any of that regional special snowflake crap.
When I think of southern accents I think of Matthew McCounaughey
all american accents sounds the same to me
Southern drawl is delicious on women.
they don't consider texas to be south like owen wilson
I'm not European but I can tell the difference between Southern accent, boston and that valley girl thing. I associate the southern accent with dumbness because that's how they're portrayed in movies and etc.. rednecks and all
Me too
went to Stratford Hall in Virginia and had a tour guide that spoke with a more pronounced, dignified version of this.
I can somewhat distinguish between English dialects, so I don't know why they wouldn't be able to distinguish between ours. Yorkshire a best
>arkansas
ayy
southern drawl is cute as fuggg
Brits probably yes, rest of Europe i would give educated guess that no
Mid-Atlantic accent =good
Southern aristocrat accent =good
All other american accents= either drawly or whiney or otherwise annoying
southern accents don't sound dumb and they are sexy as fuck (both male and female)
When I was young, I was self-conscious about my accent and tried to get rid of it. Because of (((Hollywood's))) agenda to paint us as stupid. Idgaf anymore though.
Maybe southern ones.
For me distinct ones are Boston, Southern and Minnesota.
And by "young", I mean elementary school age.
I assume you mean the transatlantic accent by Mid-Atlantic. Almost no one speaks that way anymore, there was a really old guy at my church growing up in Philadelphia at spoke like the guy on the right in this video. He probably died at least ten years ago. That Old Virginia accent is still not that rare
Reviewbrah speaks that .
Anyway yes i much prefer that accent , makes me think of a civilised country rather than the current one which makes me think of.....bad things.
he actively imitates a '50s hollywood version of it. I'm not trying to sound like a tough guy, nor am I saying I would do it, but I'm surprised that he doesn't get constantly assaulted for speaking and acting like that. Some young person doing that up here would probably end up getting in a fight or verbally attacked. Lots of Americans flip over any perceived uppity behavior; I don't know why
Yeehaa
lol this. People where I live look at me funny if I so much as wear a button-up shirt. Reviewbrah wears fucking 1930s zoot suits and gets away with it.
rednecks are sensitive i suppose
look at them funny then, theyre the problem, not you.Bloody boomers.
Yeah you can easily tell someone from Louisiana and someone from new York apart very easily.
Yes I can hear the difference between American accents.
They all sound dumb to me.
>Reviewbrah speaks that .
He really doesn't, even remotely. This is what it should sound like

>Reviewbrah wears fucking 1930s zoot suits
No I think he's just never owned a suit that fits properly and I don't think it's intentional.
>rednecks are sensitive i suppose
He reviews junk food that rednecks live on despite being from suburban NY.
I'm not from a redneck area and he wouldn't get beaten up but people would find it odd. Also, as I pointed out above we wear suits that fit.
What does it matter if some people find your accent unusual?
Also the main problem with him is his deliberately badly fitting suits, also the materials are not generally of great quality. Makes him look like he is playing dress up.
Oh and his ties are bad.
