I'm a Hungarian who is in Austria currently so I can only speak about Hungary
I think the main reason is that people are pessimistic as fuck.
Basically, something good happens: meh not good enough
Something bad happens: That's how life is, it'll only get worse and there is no chance for things to steer into a possitive direction.
There are a lot of objectivly worse places than Hungary, but they can still have fun and they have hope that things will change for the better, not in Hungary though, everything is shit and your envoirment reinforces you everyday with everybody around you complaining that indeed, being alive sucks.

I can't say about other countries, but here they try give antidepressants to people who don't even need them. I'm a normie not depressed at all and like 2/3 when I've went to doctor they've asked me about depression and were willing to prescribe, I didn't even bring depression up
