It actually wasn't. Christianity's first adherents were largely Hellenist of various ethnicities or non-Jewish proselytes.

"Middle East" didn't even exist at the time Calling Christianity Med accurately reflects the region and world it was formed in. Calling Christianity Middle Eastern reflects someone unable to dissociate the past from the present.
